I’ve Been Working On The Blogroll

(all the livelong day)

Oh, that’s punny.

Seriously (because I am so very, ahem, serious), I have been working on a blogroll to put in the sidebar, and initially I thought I’d just list all the blogs I read on a regular basis.

And then I thought, well, no.

And then I thought, well, maybe.

And then I thought, well, okay.

I’ve been very definitive about this whole process, as you can tell.

So here’s what I’m doing. I’m listing all the blogs I subscribe to via Bloglines. But I can’t get the silly Bloglines blogroll to work (at some point I will in fact use every variation of the word “blog,” and then my computer will explode from sheer relief that the whole “bloggy” saga is over).

As a result, I’m MANUALLY typing in my Bloglines stuff at Blogrolling (attention, Bloglines: YOU HAVE SOME PRODUCT MALFUNCTION ISSUES TO ADDRESS, and as a result of that I am TOILING in the typing trenches). Hopefully I’ll get it all up and running sometime later today.

BUT (coordinating conjuction #8, for those of you keeping score at home), if I accidentally leave you off of my blogroll and you know for a fact that I’ve been reading in your corner of the blogosphere (“blog” variation #7 in this post alone), please remind me in the comments and I will happily fix my mistake.

If you would just get a kick out of seeing your blog’s name in the sidebar (remember: TENS of people read this blog every single day – it’s a heady level of attention, I’ll tell you that much), let me know that, too, and I’ll add you. If you would in turn link back to me in your blogroll, that would be mighty bloggity of you.

Finally, if you link to me but I may not know it, leave me a note so that I can reciprocate.

This entire linking deal is null and void if you worship the devil or harm animals. Or children. Or people, actually. In those cases I would prefer that you not link to me. Nor will I be linking to you.

A girl has to have standards, you know. ;-)

  1. I don’t have a blogroll. Is that considered rude in the blogosphere?

And, is it weird that I found my blog on someone’s blogroll even though I had never heard of them or from them?

I suppose I have just cast you in the role of my blog counselor. I didn’t mean to do that, I am just curious.

  2. Hey BooMama! I’d love to trade links with you.

Btw, is your name BooMama because you call one or more of your kids “Boo”? I ask because my oldest son’s nickname is Boo.

  3. You do set the bar high to be on your blogroll, don’t you?

  4. I don’t have a blogroll, and after this glowing recommendation, I’m not sure if I want one. ;) I typed all my links in my sidebar the hard way, html and all.

I noticed the Bella link and clicked on it. Does this mean you are having a new template designed? I really want something new, but I am so chicken to start trying to change things. I accidentally changed the template and wiped out all the links and things in my side bar a couple of weeks ago, and I am very leery of changing anything on my blog. I would have to do it all myself, too, because I am too cheap to pay someone else to do it. Can’t afford it, really, either. :)

  5. Lori – I have gone back and forth on the whole blogroll thing. But I get so much enjoyment out of the blogs that I read that I want to share the list. Personally, I think that finding yourself on a “stranger’s” blogroll is kinda flattering, unless the blog is a tribute to trolls, clowns or serial killers (among other evils). And I happily accept being cast into the role of blog counselor. Good thing you’re not paying for this advice, huh?

Jennifer – you have unmasked the mystery of the blog’s title. My husband calls our little boy Boo – and how I came up with the title is a long story which I now think I’ll post about. :-) And I’ll make sure you’re on the blogroll.

Addie – It is sort of pitiful for me to say, “If you are not a felon, I will link to you.” But since I pretty much “know” everyone who reads this thing and I read their blogs, too, right now I feel safe in my blogroll standards. But if I make it up to “hundreds” a day, I may have to re-evaluate. :-)

  6. Hey Diane –

I put the Bella thing on here because I am thinking about doing a re-design, but I saw on Carol’s blog http://www.she-lives.typepad.com that she put a Bella thing in her sidebar, and they found that she’d linked to them, so they gave her a free re-design. Can’t hurt to try, you know? Click on the Bella link, go under “Specials and Promotions” (or something like that), and you’ll find the info. I also subscribed to their newsletter…you’ll see why when you get to their site.

  7. that last paragraph?! LOVE IT!!

  8. I do not know this term “blogroll.”

“Your strange words frighten and confuse me.”

  9. Off to check out bella’s website, and thanks, boomama for the heads up! I clicked on it earlier and looked around a little, but I will dig a little deeper this time. ;)

  10. Daph – That cracks me up. Allow me to explain, Caveman Lawyer. A blogroll is like the thing in my sidebar with all the Bible study participants listed. Only I’m working on one that lists all the blogs I check daily. And then I would put it in the sidebar, and you, too, could check those blogs daily. It is quite literally a “roll” of “blogs.” Please feel free to ask additional questions if necessary. :-)

  11. Do you realize you are now technologically LIGHT YEARS away from me. Will you still be my friend even though I can never be “part of your world”? :-)

  12. You are so funny! I am in the process of updating my blogroll – sorta. I promised in a post to do it this past week-end. It is still not done!

  13. Oh, the whole blogroll thing has taken on a life of its own. Because I am OCD, I don’t like the way it looks in the sidebar because I can’t make it have all the little green diamonds like the other stuff over there. So I think I’m going to enter it all manually on Blogger. Sigh. :-)

And Laura – I know two technological words: “blog” and “link.” Don’t be fooled by my ability to turn nouns into other parts of speech. :-) It’s all a mirage….

  14. Boomama, I know it’s getting late tonight, but PLEASE, pretty please, can you explain to me how to put one of the bella buttons on my template and link back to it? I have tried, with no luck. If you could help me tomorrow, or later, I’d really appreciate it if you’d take pity on me. Of course, I may be too dense to take instruction, too. Thanks again. :)

  15. Diane – I’m trying! I tried pasting the code in the comments, but it disappears…I took out some of the bracket-y stuff and got the code to show up, but I was clueless about how to give you instructions about where the brackets should go. I also tried pasting it into an email, but it made all the links active, which won’t help you a bit.

Let me work on it a little bit more…it may be tomorrow morning before I get this figured out. :-) I think I could copy and paste it into wordpad, but I don’t have that b/c I use a Mac. I’m thinking, though.

  16. Thanks, boomama, I appreciate it, but don’t strain anything important working on it. ;) I even had the button up on my desktop (!) at one time, and had to figure out how to get that off there. I am about putered out for tonight, so I will try to work on it tomorrow. Thanks again for your help. :)
