Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Random Things
1. I seem to have acquired my first cold / sinus infection of the fall. Which means that at some point in the next few days I will be requesting some form of anvil and hammer combination to open up my sinus cavity and thereby relieve the pressure.

2. Alex is talking so much, and by “so much” what I really mean is that he’s never, ever quiet unless he’s sleeping. And even then it’s hit or miss, because lately one of his favorite pasttimes is to wake up in the middle of the night and request that I read him a book or get him some water.

It’s not a problem saying “no” to those requests, in case you’re wondering.

3. The leaves have just started to turn here, and oh have mercy they’re gorgeous. Best time of year. No doubt.

4. I watched Madonna on “Oprah” yesterday. And it dawned on me, about three minutes into the interview, that at some point Madonna has started to sound exactly like Jane Seymour.

At one point Madonna actually said “fahm-lee,” all British-like, and I had to quit watching for a second while my brain tried to reconcile the girl in the “Holiday” video with the woman on “Oprah” who was articulating every single syllable. Go figure.

5. We got to hang out with our friends Kevin and Traci this past Tuesday night. And I miss them. A bunch.

6. You know how you can be a little down in the dumps and then something or someone comes along and snaps you right out of it? Shannon did that for me a couple of days ago by sending me the sweetest, most encouraging email – it really did make my day.

7. I realize that it makes me un-American, but I am seriously not even a little bit interested in Halloween. And I would pretty much rather stick pins in my eyeballs than dress up in a costume.

Festive, aren’t I? :-)

8. We are actually having to run the heat at night. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW HAPPY THAT MAKES ME?

9. To all you blogging girls going to the meet and greet in Dallas: HAVE FUN. And drink a diet Coke for me. And some coffee. And some sweet tea.

So basically, you know, a caffeinated beverage of any sort.

10. Remember that anvil I mentioned in #1? I’m ready for it now.

11. One day I hope to write a blog post comprised only of Tyra Banks’ words-o-wisdom on “America’s Next Top Model.” My favorite at the moment is, and I quote, “Girl, you can stick out your bootie and still do ‘model.’”

I’m not sure what it means, exactly, but it cracks me up.

12. OH GOOD GRIEF who in the world thought of Thursday Thirteen? I feel that Thursday Three would have been far more sensible.

13. But I’m done now. Carry on.

  1. Love the video below!

Had to visit when I saw your “waiting for guffman” comment on sarah’s sight.

    love that movie.

  2. If that anvil works, please send it my way.

  3. If you could indulge in chips and hot salsa, you might have a clearer nose and head….and a diet coke, of course with that indulgence!! And a little tylenol or advil….or even Nyquil. HOpe you feel better soon, and that you find some quiet time, too.

  4. Oh, no, BOTH the “B-Mamas” have sinus infections? I’m sending you much sympathy and Sudafed via the Internet wireless waves (or whatever; technology isn’t my strong point). And if you lived here, I’d borrow Alex for a while to entertain Caiden and give you some peace and quiet:)

  5. I haven’t jumped on the 13 bandwagon… yet. I just wrote my 100 things about me, 100th post and that was fun, but 13 things every week… hm. I guess I should because, well you know, everyone is doin’ it.

  6. I grew up in a non-halloween family, and honestly I don’t think that I missed much.

What is it about ANTM that just keeps me coming back for more? I loved the Tyra quote!

  7. sorry you’re sick. My right ear is plugged up, so I have sympathy for you.

  8. My youngest is a non-stop talker, too. I struggle with thinking I should listen attentively because I’m his mama, and if anyone should listen it should be me, vs. thinking I need to train him not to talk so much so that he doesn’t bore or irritate others who aren’t so loving as his mama. But how to do that??? Years ago I told him he tended to talk too much, and he smiled and said, “That’s the way God made me!” What do you do with that?! I think I promoted balance — God made us to need to eat, but not too much, to sleep, but not too much, etc., and so it is with talking. But it hasn’t sunk in yet.

  9. You know, you have to wonder if even Madonna herself remembers where she’s from. Isn’t it like Minnesota or something? Give me a break from the fake.

  10. pins in your eyes would make a pretty good costume in and of itself :)

  11. I hope you get to feeling better. I really really dislike sinus infections they hurt a bunch!!

  12. I’ll be un-American with you! No interest in Halloween whatsoever. A little bit of interest in some chocolate. Okay, maybe a lot. ;)

Great TT! Hope your head feels better soon.

  13. Won’t be dressing up for Halloween either, although this morning, Gray (2 yrs.) did suggest that I go as a “Mommy Monster.”

BUT, I do love Halloween. Several reasons…1) candy, 2) what I call “the smell of Halloween,” which sounds weird and wasn’t understood by my Creative Writing teacher in college, but that can be interpreted as the smell of burning leaves that I associate with fall 3) the kids just get so excited, 4) trick or treating is fun (if it’s cold and not humid) and 5) cold weather is coming!!!

  14. Oh, and Boo, I’m right on the cusp of a sinus infection; I can feel it coming on, and my head is swimmin’.

    Thank you, Hathorn Hall!

  15. leaves are starting to turn here too and today the sun popped out so i can really see them!

sorry you’re sick. i have a talker and she wakes up talking, talks in her sleep and just pretty much talks to herself all day if no one is listening. in the mornings, epecially, i just want to say, “can we please not talk for an hour. just an hour. silence.”

i saw the madonna part but i had to turn it off when the dixie chicks started talking.

  16. Oh, Boomama!! I have missed you! YOu can always make me smile. We are renovating and have just recently gotten internet access again!! I am just catching up on a few of your posts. Between Big Mama’s email and the Canonball baptism, I am in tears!! Smiles to you from me!! :-) I think EK and I are going to get to have lunch again next week!! I can’t wait to meet her kids!! Thanks for the laughs!!

  17. You crack me up! And I am with you on the Thursday Three. Maybe you should start a new meme :)

  18. I agree, Thursday Thirteen is way to many thoughts for me! I try to come up with stuff and then end up sounding sooo lame in the end.

Where should I send the anvil??

  19. shhhh – we don’t celebrate Holloween, even Mexico style which is “day of the dead” for nothing! – shhhh

  20. LOL! I can’t believe we dicussed, Tyra, Madonna, anvil, Halloween, and Oprah on the same post. Hope you feel better soon!
