One Year Later

As a general rule, I’m an all-or-nothing sort of girl. I’ve mentioned before that I have a hard time living in the happy medium, and I think that’s one reason why I’m kind of shocked that I’ve actually stuck with blogging for a whole year – and that I’ve found a way to make it a part of my life without letting it take over my life.

Who knew?

I certainly have had my moments of pure obsession – moments where I could hardly break away from the computer long enough to go to the bathroom, moments where I sat down “just to check on the blog” and then finished what I was doing an hour or so later, realizing that Alex had watched not one, not two, but THREE shows in a row on Noggin, and in those moments I shook my head, chastised myself, and then found solace in the fact that at least Noggin doesn’t show commercials.

(You wanna go toe-to-toe with me in the Mother Of The Year competition? I think it’s pretty clear that I’ve got a lock on the title.)

But in the last six months or so, I think my blogging habits have leveled out a little bit. I’ve tried to find a middle ground.

And do you know what? It’s been good.

So in keeping with my realization that I don’t want to be so busy writing about my life that I forget to live it, I’m going to mark the one year anniversary of BooMama by taking a bit of a bloggy break. We’re moving in just a few days, and there are lots of things that I need to take care of here on the homefront. I’m sure y’all have realized that I lead a Terribly Glamorous Life, and as proof of that I am going to dedicate a couple of days to cleaning out our laundry room, packing up our basement and hauling boxes to the new place.

Be sure to look for coverage in next week’s People magazine!

Now I believe that it’s in the Blog Bylaws that you have to list some of your most memorable posts after a year of blogging (and by “Blog Bylaws,” what I really mean is “Shannon said it”). So here’s a little something to keep you busy while I’m gone:

Thanks, y’all, for everything.

It’s been a mighty good year.

And I’m more grateful than I can say.

See you in a few days.

  1. Love the new look!

You’ll be missed but busy I’m sure… :) I’ll pray for boxes with bottoms that don’t give out, tape that sticks just where you want it, and lots of laughs over the things that inevitably go bump in the night while moving!

  2. Good luck and fair weather with the moving, BooMama.

I just posted a notice on my blog for my readers to come check out your new look and reminded them to update their links or Bloglines.

We’ll miss you and we’ll be here when you get a chance to blog again. :-)

  3. Happy Blog-Birthday to you!

Great new place you’ve got here. So glad that you decided to stick with the blawging thang. I’m blessed to have found you.

Praying that all goes well with your move to the new digs. Moving with kids – it can be SO much fun.

See ya when you get the computer unpacked.

  4. Happy 1st Anniversary!

Love the new look! Hope things go smoothly during the big move!

  5. How clever (or craaaazzzzyyyy) of you to move the blog at the same time you move the household. Even moving to Haloscan makes me a little crazy. Enjoy the break, hope the move goes well – I personally hate the moving part, but that first morning you wake up in your bed in the new place – I love that feeling. xoxoxo

  6. Love your new look! We recently moved, and it has to be one of my least favorite things to do. But, I love the possibilities of decorating a new home! Have fun!

  7. This new home of yours is quite lovely. Thanks for the invite.

And please don’t forget to send me the address to your new RL home, so I can, you know, send you a Christmas card. You surely don’t want to miss that.

    Right?

  8. Wow! I’m almost positive I checked your blog yesterday morning, and then I thought I typed in your blog address wrong today when this page popped up!

Love the new look! And now you’re OFFICIALLY a household name, with your own domain name and everything! I’m going to start selling your old emails to me on ebay . . . ;)

Have a fun bloggy break, and I hope the move goes smoothly and you don’t want to hurt yourself before the end!

Oh–and I’m with Lori; I need your new address so I can send you the Christmas card I haven’t yet bought, with the Christmas picture we haven’t yet taken:)

  9. HURRAY!!

First off, I love love LOVE the new site :)
Of course, I think you are nuts trying to move your blog AND the house at the same time- hehe. Must be all that adrenalin, huh?

GOod luck with the move. The packing is my favorite part- sad, but very true. I pack, Kati unpacks and organzies while to boys load and unload.

    Can’t wait for the revealing!!!

Hugs all around- HAPPY BLOG-VERSARY to CHU!!

  10. how very cool!

    Blessings,
    Karla

  14. God bless you. I wish you all the best.

  15. Wow! Congratulations on your one year anniversary! Yes, balance is crucial and I know I have lost time a few times while blogging. Love your new look as well.

Have fun moving! It’s an adventure (been there, done that… :)

  16. It all looks great. You are so very brave! I don’t even know what a domain name is or where you buy them:) – but I don’t plan to lose track of you.

Happy Blog-A-versary, BooMama!! Thanks for some GREAT moments of laughter and fun! I’m SO, SO glad you “blawg”. Have fun getting your new house set-up. I cannot wait to hear how it goes (AND see some photos, I hope!)

  18. Happy Bloggiversery! I am still a few months behind you, but I do laugh when I think back on my totally obsessed days (they were at least 5 weeks ago, so I must be totally cured).

  19. Happy one year anniversary, I love reading your blog.
