Don’t Even Get Me Started About The 99 Cent Cream Cheese

by BooMama on 18 December 2006

in Out Of Control,There's More!

My husband laughed out loud at me (OUT LOUD!) when he saw this:

img_6732.JPG

I didn’t even care because a Sharpie? And a grocery store circular for the sales at Publix the week before Christmas?

You can add up those two things any way you want to, but the result will always be PURE, UNBRIDLED JOY, my friends.

I mean, I don’t even really like grated cheese in the bag, but Kraft cheese that’s two for $5? TWO FOR FIVE DOLLARS?

How can one possibly resist such a price?

Also, my mama has always told me that “there’s no substitute for Land O’ Lakes butter,” and at two for $5, THERE DOESN’T HAVE TO BE! I’LL TAKE TEN!

I need to get out more, don’t I?

Wow, I can understand your heated emotions there! :) Especially the Philadelphia cream cheese, that’s really an incredibly cheap price.

Heather December 18, 2006 at 4:26 pm

But did you have a coupon??? ;-)

Stacy December 18, 2006 at 4:26 pm

Love it, such a hoot! I personally love to grocery shop, and I love to find a good deal too, so this entry really struck a chord with me :)

Love the Sharpie action, good for you!

Hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!

Overwhelmed! December 18, 2006 at 4:45 pm

Those are great deals! And if you have coupons for any of those, it’d be even better!

Have you ever checked out http://www.grocerygame.com? It does the work for you…comparing store ads with coupons found in your Sunday paper and then giving you a list each week of how much you’d save. It’s awesome!

The other day, I got 5 boxes of Duncan Hines brownie mixes for 30 cents each!!!

Debby December 18, 2006 at 6:33 pm

Good gravy woman! Where do you live that you can get Land o Lakes for $2.50??? The cheapest I’ve seen it is $3.50 per lb.

Michelle December 18, 2006 at 7:44 pm

Nothing like saving some pennies to make you smile. I understand completely.

Big Mama December 18, 2006 at 8:14 pm

Ten packs of Land of Lakes butter? That should be enough for one of Paula Deen’s recipes.

Roxanne December 18, 2006 at 8:18 pm

Visions of dump cakes and cheese cakes and sugar cookies dance in my head. . .all for cheap!!!!

RC of strangeculture December 18, 2006 at 8:40 pm

When husband’s laugh at their wife’s it’s only because they love them.

my wife loves cream cheese :-)

Melanie December 18, 2006 at 10:25 pm

Tell your mama I have personally never had any BAD butter.

Diane J. December 19, 2006 at 12:05 am

Listen to your Mama, girl, she’s makin’ good sense! There’s no substitute for real cow butter and good vanilla. And that’s gospel. :-)

Revka December 19, 2006 at 12:36 am

Great deals are the best! And I only use butter, though I can’t say I only use Land O’ Lakes. Diane J. is absolutely correct: real butter and real vanilla are a must! I love the pure vanilla from Mexico. (I grew up on the border, and we would routinely buy certain items from Mexico.)

Karla~Looking Towards Heaven December 19, 2006 at 12:53 am

nothing to add — Butter is the best!

Blessings,
Karla

I pay 2.05 a pound here in aussie(not for land o lakes thou-they don’t have that here)

rebekah December 19, 2006 at 5:58 am

Ahh, Publix. How I miss shopping at Publix.

homesklr December 19, 2006 at 8:36 am

We moved to TX from FL and I haven’t found a grocery to compare to Publix. Enjoy your blog, my husband is a former Bulldog too!

Susie December 19, 2006 at 9:48 am

Thanks for the laugh today. We women love a bargain, don’t we? I wish I could find an incredible bargain on the ipod my daughter wants. Now, that would be pure joy!

Stacey December 19, 2006 at 10:23 am

I’m right there with you… I love me a good grocery store circular : )-

Fiddledeedee (It Coulda' Been Worse) December 19, 2006 at 11:34 am

I totally get this!!! On Thursday morning, I go online to Publix.com and go to the “services” pull down. And viola, there is the circular online. That way, I have it nice and early. And I don’t have to get in my car to go get one.

Now the sharpie. I’m not sure how I would get that off my computer screen! :)

Mountain Mama December 19, 2006 at 12:31 pm

I visited Kelli & Carol and prayed too.
Don’t you just love those sales flyers?
I usually check them for good prices on the things I need.
Actually they work good for paper training your puppy.
(smile)

Melene December 19, 2006 at 1:50 pm

That’s awesome. Here’s something else to make you and your husband laugh. When my Father in Law gets great deals like that at the grocery store, he writes the price he paid for it in BIG numbers on the box or whatever kind of container it comes in. Every. Single. Time.

Kathy December 19, 2006 at 2:24 pm

i am with stacey on this one, I even use coupons and my club card too. I loves me some butter. Awesome deal!!

Melissa December 19, 2006 at 3:00 pm

Wow. I thought I was doing good to get off-brand cream cheese for 89cents the other day. But Philadelphia? That’s a great deal!

kelli in the mirror December 19, 2006 at 5:42 pm

I do love me some land o’lakes. Their white american cheese makes me weep with joy.

His Singer December 19, 2006 at 6:31 pm

Me? I went to the Wal-Marts today, and guess what? CREAM CHEESE FOR 98 CENTS!!! I just about had to have CPR because I was so excited I do believe my heart stopped….

Kelly December 19, 2006 at 9:19 pm

Girl- you need to get yourself over to the nearest Wal-Marts. Philadelphia Cream Cheese for 94 cents. Can’t beat that price, for sure. :)

Tammy and Parker December 19, 2006 at 10:09 pm

Yeah…but where are your coupons? =) With sales and coupons I got 10 pounds of Challange butter for .25 cents a pound!

I use http://www.pinchingyourpennies.com It allows us to eat and still afford Parker, lol!

Kristi December 19, 2006 at 10:40 pm

Girl, there is nothing like real butter! Who even wants that old nasty margarine stuff? It is all about moderation–use butter, but in moderation. I think one day it will come out just how bad margarine is for you :).

Kristen December 19, 2006 at 10:47 pm

For anyone who’s lived in Minnesota, you are right that Land O Lakes is the best – though I rarely buy it – too expensive! But guess what? Our store had Philadelphia Cream Cheese for $.49 last week-end! And I didn’t buy any!!

dawn December 19, 2006 at 10:48 pm

Ooops – I was in Kristen’s blog awhile ago – that was really me, Grandma Dawn, writing the last comment.

Jane December 20, 2006 at 9:58 am

I’m with Tammy up there, only I use http://www.couponmom.com so that I can stock up on the good stuff too! Margerine in baking-no thanks!

Gina December 20, 2006 at 2:08 pm

Another vote for http://www.grocerygame.com. Sour cream is free at my list store this week. Free!!! If you think 2/$5 cheese is good…trust me its even better playing GG. You can have that Christmas ad rush every week! :-)

Michelle Spanos December 20, 2006 at 3:06 pm

I noticed you didn’t comment on the pie deals or the buy one get one Doritos!

boomama December 20, 2006 at 5:57 pm

But I totally bought two Mrs. Smith’s cherry pies. THREE DOLLARS EACH!

And I still haven’t made it to Walmart…a nap and a walk just seemed infinitely more appealing…but I’m going to be sick if we don’t have cream cheese for 94 cents. Because I NEED to make cheese logs now with some 94 cent Philadelphia cream cheese.

MicheleinNZ December 20, 2006 at 8:47 pm

Just last weekend I was browsing some online supermarket ads just to remember what it was like (it’s just not the same here in New Zealand) and I was talking to my husband about all the great deals. Your husband might laugh but my husband, ummm… well, he thinks that talking about bargains is a great aphrodisiac. No joke! The man loves to save some money.

tami lewis December 21, 2006 at 9:00 am

i get the butter for that price a lot so i know what you mean! :)
also i have to say- i got the same cheese but it was THREE FOR $5!! i’m sorry but i had to tell ya!!!!!
isn’t publix the best?
