Last Friday when we got home from the beach, I found several delightful little packages in the mail, one of which contained a few CD’s from a Christian music label. Y’all know that I LOVE ME SOME MUSIC, so I couldn’t wait to sit down and listen to the goods.
(Also: for those of you who have commented or emailed to ask how I’m getting free stuff from people, I have no idea. I think maybe it’s because I’m listed with Blog Top Sites, but that’s just a guess. And yes, I am a veritable fount of helpful information.)
It was Saturday night before I loaded the CD’s on our computer and transferred the songs to my iPod. I started listening while I was working on a couple of blog posts, and while I thought two of the CD’s were great, one of them flat-out blew me away. It’s called Glory Revealed.
Glory Revealed – which features Christian artists like David Crowder, Shane & Shane, Mark Hall, Candi Pearson-Shelton and Steven Curtis Chapman, among others – is different from a lot of other stuff I’ve heard lately because every single song is inspired by and rooted in Scripture. And I almost feel like the words “inspired by” are misleading, because if I hadn’t heard the CD I might think Oh, okay – somebody read about Job and then wrote a song about trials. But that’s not it, really.
Because what the songwriters did for this CD was to set Scripture to music. There are a few deviations from the text because of rhyme scheme or verse structure or whathaveyou, but for the most part the lyrics are straight from God’s Word. And as a result, this CD is inspirational in a way that only Scripture can be. It will touch you right down to the very core of your heart.
Glory Revealed was produced by Mac Powell of Third Day, and according to executive producer David Nasser, “the purpose of this project is to celebrate God’s truth through worship.” I especially appreciate that the producers are very clear about the fact that worship isn’t about us; in fact, Nasser makes a point to say that “everything God has ever done, and everything He will forever do, He does with one intent: to reveal Himself and to receive honor and glory.”
To which I say: Yes. Preach on. Hallelujah.
After I listened to the CD about five times in a row Saturday night, I emailed the person who sent it to me with really eloquent comments like “!!!” and “I HEART GLORY REVEALED 4 EVR” and “I’m going to marry track #3.”
I also asked, in a rush of enthusiasm – without stopping to think about the fact that I WAS BEING VERY PRESUMPTUOUS – if he would please send me some more CD’s and let me do some kind of giveaway on my blog.
AND DO YOU KNOW WHAT WAS ON MY FRONT PORCH TUESDAY AFTERNOON?
So if you’d like to be eligible lay claim to one of these twelve copies, here’s what you have to do:
Leave a comment, making sure your email address is oh-so-accurate. And for kicks, tell me the name of your very favorite recording artist of all time ever (for me, it’s a four-way tie between James Taylor, Watermark, John Mayer and Chris Tomlin – and yes, I enjoy a singer-songwriter).
That’s it!
Tomorrow night at 7 o’clock central I’ll turn off the comments on this post, and then I’ll (quite literally) put everyone’s name in a hat. The four year old will draw twelve names out of the hat sometime this weekend, and if you’re one of the twelve, I’ll email you to get your address so I can mail your copy to you.
I’m so excited about being able to share this CD with people. And even if you don’t “win” a copy in my little drawing, you can still go here for a free song download and a coupon for $5 off the CD purchase price.
Finally, many, many thanks to the folks at Provident Music for the bloggity hook-up. Some of you are going to be mighty blessed as a result.
And that just tickles me to death.
Edited to add: I’ll leave comments on until around 10 pm central. Mainly because we’re going out to supper, and I don’t think I’ll be here to turn off comments at 7. And contrary to what you might think, I do not wear the computer on a chain around my neck in public.
I only do that at home.

Over 200 comments? GOOD NIGHT! Please, please put me in the hat. My favorite artist of all time…have to list more than one…Allison Krauss, Sara Groves, John Cougar Mellencamp, Billy Joel and (OH YES!) Barry Manilow.
March 30th, 2007 at 11:17 am
Mac Powell, and Third Day – hands down. I just love the ‘southern rock” grit in his voice, and the spirit in his songs. His worship tracks lead me straight to the throne. Thanks, Boomama. Win or not, this is a great recommendation, and I so need some more music in my ipod!

My “favorite” at the moment is Toby Mac. His songs ooze love for the Lord and inspire me to ooze along with him!
I just have to say that I love your site (not that you’ll actually have time to read this with over 200 comments!)… I’ve never commented – just a little lurkieloo.. but I have you set as my home page so I can get a giggle each and every morning!
Thanks for making us laugh in Washington!

I love music so I can’t pick just one artist or group so here goes: watermark, jars of clay, U2, chris tomlin, sara groves, nichole nordeman and david crowder band. I could probably go on and on, but I won’t….
March 30th, 2007 at 11:21 am
For a week now, I have been going back and forth in my mind on whether to go ahead and buy the CD at Lifeway or order directly from the David Nasser web site. I had decided to order from Mr. Nasser’s website because he has written a devotional book that goes along with the CD! (I didn’t know if you knew that! And Lifeway doesn’t carry the book BUT I haven’t ordered yet.
I have no all time favorite artist. I’m currently listing to the new Toby Mac, Portable Sounds CD. I also like Third Day, Chris Tomlin, Nichole Nordeman, and then the harmony of Phillips, Craig and Dean…
March 30th, 2007 at 11:21 am
I can’t pick a favorite, but some of what I am currently listening to includes DCTalk, TobyMac, Tait, POD, Pillar & Avalon!
March 30th, 2007 at 11:24 am
I’ve never really thought of myself as having a favorite recording artist. But just from a sheer numbers standpoint, I love more songs by Billy Joel than any other artist.
March 30th, 2007 at 11:27 am
i love candi pearson-shelton’s voice. i kinda know her. in a roundabout way. you see, her brother rick pearson, was the music minister at our church before his much too early call home to heaven about a year and a half ago. i met her in the blood lab while i was sobbing my eyes out because my iron was too low to donate plasma to donate to rick. she is an amazing woman with an equally amazing voice. her cd rocks, btw!
the sounds like a wonderful cd!
i’d have to say that i don’t really have an “all time favorite” artist, but i do agree with you…..watermark, john mayer, shane & shane, sinatra, michael buble, tony bennett, and the list goes on and on.
March 30th, 2007 at 11:27 am
I read about Glory Revealed on the Lifeway website and decided to buy it as an Easter gift for everyone in my extended family! In fact, I bought every copy available in this town! Thanks for the review!
March 30th, 2007 at 11:29 am
You’re going to be very busy putting all of these names in a hat! Jack Johnson… not Christian, but fun music.
March 30th, 2007 at 11:29 am
Favorite of all time? How about a 3-way tie between Third Day, Casting Crowns and Mark Schultz.
March 30th, 2007 at 11:30 am
Having been a youth minister for 5 years, I have listened to alot of different Christian artists. One that stands out to me as being different in style and sound is Paul Wright–although if you like Jack Johnson, Paul’s sound is very similar. In particular (if you want to hear what I like) the title cuts to “Fly Away” and “Sunrise to Sunset” are incredible.
March 30th, 2007 at 11:39 am
Wow, you are going to have to pull alot of names out of a hat. maybe you’ll need two hats…
Anyway, my favorite recording artist of all time, eh? I have to pick just one? I guess not since you have a four way tie. Ok, well, I’m a big third day fan and casting corwns for christian music. I’d say for secular I’m a big Sheryl Crow fan. and I love the dixie chicks, too.
ok thanks…I hope I win :)
March 30th, 2007 at 11:40 am
I meant crowns…casting crowns. I’ve never heard of casting corwns. I hate typos :)
March 30th, 2007 at 12:08 pm
Sounds like a great CD! Ok – so my favorite artist of all time ever is…(laugh all you want – most of my friends do) Liza Minnelli!! Love her! Granted, the woman is flat crazy, but as a performer she is amazing!
March 30th, 2007 at 12:13 pm
I love Rascal Flatts. Me and my 6yr old Daughter enjoy belting them out. I grew up with Steven Curtis Chapman pumping through my veins.
March 30th, 2007 at 12:14 pm

Favorite artist of all time? Hmm…Watermark, Mark Schultz, New York Voices, Faith Hill…big ties all around! :) Thanks for doing this – I’ve been eyeing that CD for awhile now and I’m so excited about the chance to win one…we just can’t afford to buy it now. Thanks for your continual laughs and inspiration, BooMama! We internets sure do love you!

March 30th, 2007 at 12:46 pm
Favorite all time artist…shall we time warp back to the 80′s when I owned every single Air Supply record and was totally “Lost in Love” with Russell Hitchcock. And of course there is the hottest thang evah in cowboy boots – George Strait. I currently play Casting Crowns having wept over “Praise Him in the Storm” on more than one occasion, as the last six months have been rather stormy. But if I were to list all my favorites, I’d be here typing all day :-)
Wow – with all these names to choose from you’ll have to put them your mop bucket. A hat can’t possibly hold them all.
March 30th, 2007 at 1:00 pm
My favorite Artist is Steven Curtis Chapman.
Good Luck Everyone!
March 30th, 2007 at 1:01 pm
Currently Regina Spektor, but also love the Cardigans. I’ve been drawn into commenting by my love of free stuff!
March 30th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
That’s easy… My daughter… When she was 3, a friend spontaneously recorded her singing along to some chords on the piano. It is a funny song woven with tidbits of a 3-yr-old’s day, but her sweet voice gets me everytime. This was added as a secret track on my friend’s worship album. She is now 9 and leads worship with a guitar. :)
Outside of family – U2
March 30th, 2007 at 1:16 pm
My favorite artist who sings my heartbeat is Chris Rice! He always tells a story in his songs….maybe it’s just that I’m “Clumsy.” Love your blog! Do you know I almost wrote “bog?” You make me laugh!
Blessings on ya!

And FREE STUFF??? YOU GO GIRL!
March 30th, 2007 at 1:29 pm
Oooh, I’m always up for free music, especially if it’s great music! I’d have to say that my favorite recording artist of all time is Jars of Clay. I mean, I love U2 and Sarah McLachlan and John Michael Talbot and PFR and on and on, but I really, really love Jars. Their Flood CD ministered to me during a very difficult time of my life and I have loved them every since!
March 30th, 2007 at 1:33 pm

It would have to be Third Day. My moma taught one of them in children’s choir when we were little at our church. Who can remember which one it was….I can never remember. But their music totally puts me in a worshipful mood.
I just wanted to say I love your blog it brings a smile to my day.
March 30th, 2007 at 2:23 pm
Oh my word…there are so many comments to this post that I’m sure I’ll never win…but you never know! :)
It’s a tough call to say who my favorite recording artist is, so I’ll give a few since they are from such different genres:
Harry Connick, Jr.
Tim McGraw
Nicole Nordeman
The CD you have sounds like a great one! Seems like it would help in memorizing Scripture as well. Thanks for the recommendation!
March 30th, 2007 at 2:24 pm
So many favorites…Amy Grant/Michael W. Smith/Barry Manilow.
Our song is “My Romance” by James Taylor!
Edziadul@aol.com
March 30th, 2007 at 2:35 pm
That got the people out of the closet didn’t it? My favorite would be Indelible Grace which is one artist but a man w/ a group of coming up artists. He takes old hymns which, how should I say this, have difficult tunes and reworks the music into glorious songs.
March 30th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
you are going to have a lot of tiny pieces of paper to cut and put in a hat.
i’m going with sting. but i would love to branch out. i know nothing about music.

March 30th, 2007 at 2:59 pm
It’s a toss up between Chris Tomlin and David Crowder Band. Of course, I also love me some Third Day
