It’s Not Just A Lotion, It’s A Public Service

in Out Of Control

Sister and I have an ongoing friendly contest to see who can find the very best lavender- or eucalyptus-scented products. Neither of us can walk into, say, Bath & Body Works without making a beeline to the aromatherapy section, and when we find something that meets our high standards, we give it the Sister Seal of Approval,TM which sounds a little something like this:

“Oooooooh – THIS IS SOME GOOD STUFF RIGHT HERE.”

Then we discuss all the many different ways said product can make skin beautiful / turn a bath into a retreat / cure any possible sinus ailments while we hold the product very closely to our noses, because separating ourselves from the delicious lavender and/or eucalyptus goodness would just be far too much to bear.

And now you are wondering: so what’s the point, oh crazy lady?

(Oh, you’re so kind to assume I have a point.)

(But I do! I really do!)

And the point is this:

A few weeks ago I was trying to put together some gift baskets for some people for some stuff I’ve been working on (and really, I don’t know how much more vague that last phrase could possibly be; clearly I have a gift for communicating details). I was bouncing ideas around with Big Mama, and she mentioned that she has a friend WHO OWNS A LAVENDER FARM (seriously? just typing those words? my heart started to race), and her friend makes really great lavender lotion, among other things.

I was a little skeptical that the lotion could be all that great, especially since Sister and I have such obsessive shopping tendencies in this area (WE KNOW THE MARKETPLACE, PEOPLE), but considering that Big Mama and I agree on, well, pretty much everything, I figured it was worth a shot. Big Mama made a few calls, told her friend what I needed, and about a week later a big ole box full of lavender products arrived at my front door.

And y’all.

Y’all.

The lotion? It’s the best stuff I’ve ever used.

Somehow the lotion is ultra-moisturizing without being greasy. And while the scent is most definitely lavender, there’s nothing cloying or perfume-y about it. It smells clean and fresh and it makes me so happy that I’m going to have to go rub some on my legs right this second and then smile contentedly while I marvel at all the dry skin I’m not seeing.

In short, I love this lotion almost as much as I love carbs, and that, my friends, is a whole, whole bunch.

So I say all of that to tell you this: go treat yourself. Right this second. Don’t wait for someone to give this to you for Mother’s Day (though it would make an absolutely lovely Mother’s Day gift for someone you love). It’s like a spa in a bottle. In fact, last night, after Alex was in bed, (and after listening to him talk non-stop for three straight days), I sat down on my couch, watched the SNL 90′s special, and lotioned to my heart’s content.

And loved every single lavender-scented second.

(Also: this stuff is divine, too. As are the sachets – which they make after they PICK THE LAVENDER THAT GROWS ON THEIR FARM, because strangely enough, LAVENDER, IT COMES FROM NATURE.)

And just so you know: this isn’t one of these deals where someone sent me a product to try in the hopes that I’d review it. This is just one of those happy times when I’ve found a product I love, and I MUST SHARE THE INFORMATION because I care deeply about you and your skin care regiment, especially with summer’s leg-baring days upon us.

I’m telling y’all: THIS IS SOME GOOD STUFF RIGHT HERE.

Oh my! I do believe I have found what my heart desires for Mother’s Day now! (And I know my friend Mary, who is also a devoted BooMama reader, will laugh out loud when she reads your post today – knowing my obsession for all things lavender-scented! I am NOT ALONE!!) :)

I am going to have to take your advice on this one (even without research, which is way out of the norm for me). But, the LAVENDAR sold me. I actually bought a pot of it for my back deck, just a few weeks ago. My girls love going up to it and smelling it along with the pot of rosemary I purchased. It makes me laugh that I may sound halfway domesticated – ha ha!

As much as carbs? Seriously. That must be some good stuff. It would be even better if we could eat it.

OH MY !! Thanks to your great link, I have discovered that we are going to be in the area of that farm on the VERY SAME weekend as the Lavendar Festival and Market…….in other words, a whole Lotta lavendar……..can’t wait! Thanks so much!

While in Texas a few years ago my Mom and I happened across a lavender farm. We stopped of course and bought a couple of bouquets. Our car smelled beautiful all the way home to Louisiana–although my husband had had enough after the 12 hour ride. :)

I just went to the farm site—they are located in the same area we got our lavender from. I notice they sell their product in Fredricksberg where we go every summer. We have a conference in Hunt, Texas–45 minutes from Fredricksberg. Guess I’ll have to try and locate their farm it looks like it is in the general area.

Oooo that looks great and the ingredient list looks like it might be o.kay for our Feingold Program too!

I trust you implicitly, so as soon as I order some lovely lavendar lotion (how’s that for unintened alliteration!?) I am going to Target to purchase my own adorable summer bag.

I would feel bad about blatantly copying you if I say, actually knew you, but since you are so far away, I feel that it is ok
:-) Seriously, that bag is THE cutest, and I, too am a fool for lavendar, so I think I am going to feed the addiction and follow in your shopping path.
Blessings!

I took my boys to Cracker Barrel today, for lunch and used some of this: Heath & Henry™ Hand & Body Lotion in ORANGE VANILLA!

Oh my! I thought I had been transported to the beach. It was divine!!!

Well if you love it as much as carbs it’s got to be good! How great that you found this stuff!

You can’t say you’re a devotee of lavender until you’ve gone to the three day festival. All things lavender! Lavender tea! Lavender scones! Lavender ice cream! Lavender pillows! Oh, they’ve got lavender, baby, and they’re not afraid to use it.

Thanks for the heads up! I just ran out of my Bath & Body Works Eucalyptus Spearmint lotion and need to get some more. I ordered some of the lavendar lotion and body soap – hope it is as good as you describe it!

See, I just think about lavendar and practically break into hives. Sense-memory being what it is, it’s traumatic for me. During the most stressful time of my life, I was overloaded with lavendar products to “relax” me and now every time I smell it, I’m right back in the uber-stress mode. I’m really happy you like it though. And I’m glad your skin is moist.

You mean that it’s not Lavend-ah or Lavendesque, that it actually smells like– LAVENDER?! Oh my! Lavender, the real stuff!, is my absolute favorite! That fake yucky ducky stuff is for the birds. Must check this out! And, BooMama, I think that it costs about the same as Bath and Body. (Minus that semi-annual sale that’s coming up soon!) So let’s branch out, shall we, and support the little guy!

Is it okay that I thought you said you loved this stuff as much as you love CRABS?

Then I read the comments, and it wasn’t until I read about the 4th reference to them that I realized you had said CARBS.

Either way, sounds delish and now I’m hungry and my skin is dry.

I can’t wait to link on over! I remember when Bath and Body had a wonderful lavendar scent and then voila they discontinued it. I’m not sure if they’ve replaced it with another lavendar in their section or not; however, I do have their lavendar-vanilla bubbley bath that is yummy. Hands off to the kiddys.

I spray my pillow at night with lavendar from The Healing Garden – very relaxing. I’ve used it to chase the little one’s scary dreams away.

Thanks for the link

My daughter throws a fit when I wear lavender because she hates the smell – I swear she’s not mine sometimes!!
My scent of the moment is Warm Vanilla Sugar from bath and body – it got the seal of approval from both my hubby and my 3 year old – and it smells yummy!

Would it be pushy of me to e-mail my husband with the link and a reminder that Sunday is Mother’s Day? I’m thinking that it would be better to do that than just order it and then tell him that I got myself something. LOL

Just called and ordered the ‘Best of Lavender Gift Set’. I caught Debi’s husband, Jack, out in the barn. He is such a wonderful guy! I submitted my order and told him I’d rather call than order on-line. It’s such a hassle to do that sometimes, because I live in Heidelberg, Germany and work for the military so have an APO mailing address. That makes ordering on-line difficult sometimes. And it’s so much easier to talk to a real person and get all the kinks ironed out. Jack said he would get my order out soon and said he’d make me a basket up decorated really nice. (I’m sure by the time Uncle Sam gets finished with it that it will be so squished it won’t even resemble the real thing any more). Can’t wait to get my Gift Set. And what timing! Tomorrow is my birthday! So this is a gift to myself! Whoo-Hoo! Thanks to your blog I am now gifted (little play on words there!)

Thanks again – Deb

I totally agree with you on the how it feels to even type “lavendar farm.” It’s one of those jobs that make me think, how does one ever get involved in something like that? How do I find a job like that? I’ll have to check this out for sure!

I have zzzz Therapy lavendar lotion–it’s just for nighttime, and even my pajama drawer smells like lavendar now, from wearing it at night. I love it :)

So do you think the owner of the lavendar farm gets weird looks when she goes back to her high school reunions and announces what she does for a living???
