A House Blessing

July 1, 2007

I found such a sweet plaque at the thrift shop yesterday.

img_2554.jpg

It only cost twenty-six cents, but as soon as I saw it, I knew it was a treasure for our little family. It’s a poem written by Arthur Guiterman, and I absolutely love the words:

“God bless the corners of this house,
And be the lintel blest;
And bless the hearth and bless the board
And bless each place of rest;
And bless each door that opens wide
To stranger as to kin;
And bless each crystal window pane
That lets the starlight in;
And bless the rooftree overhead
And every sturdy wall;
The peace of man, the peace of God,
The peace of love on all.”

Blessings to you, sweet friends.

    Just goes to show that even the “cheapest” treasures can be priceless! That is a beautiful poem. I’m going to link to this on my blog…everyone should read that. =)

    A lovely blessing; thanks for sharing it.

    I have to ask…did it really cost $0.26? That just seems such a strange amount; why not leave it at $0.25? or round up to $0.30? Oh well, a good deal indeed.

    What a fruitful trip to the thrift store.
    Plague . . . 26 cents.
    Words of blessing . . . priceless!

    My Granny always said, “one woman’s junk in another woman’s treasure.”

    A woman after my own heart! My all time favorite pasttime is thrift store shopping and we have oodles of them around here! Had to have a dress to attend a wedding last weekend and shopped at every mall and clothing store in a 50 mile radius only to come up empty handed. I finally decided to check out the thrift stores and found the perfect dress at the first one I stopped at. And for $6.99 how could I go wrong? Guiltless shopping for sure!

    Just read your other post about the estate sale. I went to one too on Friday a.m. & wonder if it’s the same one! Yours sounds like it was more reasonably priced than mine though, so I think maybe not. Anyway, love that little end table & it sounds like you really got some good stuff. I only bought a couple of things at mine…everything else was pretty high! Good for you.
