A Picture Is Worth Seven Hundred Seventy Six Pennies

See these little retro beauties? These adorable end tables or nightstands? That just need a little TLC?

$3.88 a piece at the thrift store, my friends.

Let’s give the Lord some praise.

I also found some funky new lamps, some great glassware, and the sweet little wall plaque that I mentioned in the previous post. I’ll post pictures after I get everything polished and shined and placed.

And oh! I bought a desk for $10 (A DESK! FOR TEN DOLLARS!) that, after a little paint and hardware rehab, is going to be the new headquarters of BooMama: The Blawg.

Because as much as I love blogging from the living room bar, I fear my back is going to cave in on itself if I continue to sit on a backless barstool while I painstakingly produce my exceedingly pedestrian prose.

Great eye! It takes talent to find such as that!

Boo – maybe you should do a tour of thrift store finds. I know my husband chokes when I tell him I bought “something” at the thrift store and will need help with it when I get home. But after finding the perfect desk, a bookcase for our living room, a mirror for my daughter’s room, 2 chairs for her room and a bookcase for her room…he is much more agreeable. Some of my project finds take a little longer to get in presentable condition than others but after they are done…he really gets it! Yay for you!!! It can be addictive – here’s to the “thrift store rush” – LOL!

And yet another reason I hope that moving closer to you works out…. weekday Thrift store excursions. Shoot, at those prices, I can just pack some clothes for everyone and start over!

Apparently I have arrived and didn’t even know it. I have an end table EXACTLY like those! Seriously. It’s beside my recliner. It was my Mama’s and it’s authentic – dust, scratches and all.

I’m so excited! I thought it was just an old table, and now I find that it’s funky! Sassy! Retro!

I am content with my lot in life now. :-)

Love and hugs,

Diane

Sheesh, I have two tables exactly like those sitting in my basement. My husband won’t let me get rid of them because they were in his grandparents’ house. But mine are a lighter stain. I like yours better. :) I’d love to see what you do with them, since for the life of me I can’t figure where to put these tables!

You’re awesome! Our thrift stores in Big D don’t seem to have deals as good as those. Miserly me thinks they’re too overpriced at times!

Love em’! That’s where I’ve been for the past month!! Seriously…I’ve been frequenting this local Resale shop for CCA (Christian Community Action) and I’m SO addicted. I’ve donated three trash bags of toys yesterday and then I restock my house. I got a solid vintage white wicker desk for my guest room for $37, old vintage trunks, toys, etc. I’m officially addicted. Love your finds girly…here’s to some great bargain shopping!

I just love finding old stuff to fix up. Your finds remind me of a couple of my recent finds: a free chest of drawers and a two-dollar desk. Here’s the link to the mostly-renovated relics:

My parents used to own those! Yessiree!
We have one at our house, too, but its actually a very light oak-like color. I had only seen them dark before this one.
We have some green shag carpeting you could have, lol.
Actually, my teenage son asked for shag carpeting for his basement room. So I put a shout out on freecycle and someone had some that they were taking out of their house! My boys were all drooling over it, but only one could have it. I think its so ugly!

Those are exactly like the ones my grandpa had in his house. My mom and sister are the proud owners of them, and we will treasure them! Don’t you love a great bargain?

Amy July 2, 2007 at 10:32 am

Are you in Ohio? Because a few years ago when my FIL passed away, we gave two tables like that to Goodwill. :)

Candace July 2, 2007 at 10:55 am

I am a thrift store junkie too – great finds!

We used to have one of those tables – we loved it to death. Although we do still use the little shelf piece for my husband’s printer, so I guess it isn’t quite dead yet now is it?

I hope you paid close attention to Tonya’s suggestion – don’t you think a thrift store find tour would be great? Here we are in the middle of the summer with nothing to post about – LOL.

Seriously, I’ll bet you people would jump on a tour like that. I can’t even remember the last time I went to a thrift store. This has totally inspired me. Those tables are awesome. Awesome!

Hey, we had those tables at my house when I was growing up. By the end, I think they ended up legless before heading to the great thrift store in the sky. Enjoy!

You are a girl after my own heart. HOW FUN! Thrift stores and yard sales. It’s just like a treasure hunt. We have friends at church that have decorated their entire house with Thrift Store finds and, I mean it’s really nice stuff, also all their clothes are from Thrift Stores. They fly all over the US to shop at Thrift Stores, well, you can do that when you are a retired airline employee flying on a pass. They say they are the only passengers boarding with Thrift Store bags. LOL Are you sure those tables didn’t come from my Mom’s house? She’s got the retro look and doesn’t even know it. :-)

We had one of those tables too when I was a kid. That was the first thought I had. Now I’ll go look at the before and after. See ya!
