I Feel That The Internet Needs To Know This

by BooMama on 10 July 2007

in Rambling

Right now – right this very second – I am listening to Toby Mac on my iPod. For the first time.

Oh yes I am.

And here’s what’s even more surprising to me:

I AM ENJOYING IT.

Do y’all think that I might be, you know, street like that?

There is this one song called “Boomin’,” and it makes me want to get in my car and play it really loud and ride around a Sonic parking lot.

Which is TOTALLY acceptable behavior for a 30-something mama.

So.

Y’all wanna come with me?

I’ll buy us some tater tots with cheese.

And WE WILL ROCK IT, YO.

Now you know how much I LOVE riding around listening to music…almost any music! So come pick me up, ‘kay? I’ll be ready anytime.

And I have to confess, I’ll have to listen to Sir Toby because I ain’t sure if I’ve ever had the pleasure of his company before or not. Chances are I have, because Jessica and Jason like the rap-ier, hip hop-ier stuff. If that’s his thang, that is.

And Sister? Hon,you just say the word and we’ll do that meetin’, greetin’ and eatin’ thing, too!

Love and hugs,

Diane

TobyMac infiltrated my mp3 thanks to my daughter. It totally ROCKS the house.

SO, I’ll take a seat with ya- heck, potatoes are one of my daily potassium requirements. It’s all good!

Should we start calling you BooDawg?

Lamar and I loved “Boomin”! “Rockin’ out your stereo system”, in “stere-ere-O!”

I’ll be investigating this phenomenon and looking for more stuff by him! Thanks for the heads up, BooMama! :-)

Love and hugs,

Diane

Hey, hey, hey- I am so proud of you to have expanded out into the world of tobymac! I’m a bit of a junky, saw him a year ago at a small venue here in FL and found myself (a 30-something mama) breakin’ it down with all the 13 year olds- Hey, One Love, One God, One People- says nothing about age in there.
He’s got some good lyrics and YES I’ll join you at Sonic and please turn up the bass a little. Peace out homegirl!

I must confess this post makes me want to go dig out all my old DC Talk albums and listen to some “Jesus Freaks.”

um… he’s white and he’s kind of posing… but I *think* I liked it? I will try again.

Love this post! I’ve felt the same way before- my 4 year old has told me to turn the radio down a few times :).

I just challenged my 13 year old to the Spelling Bee TV show and I won..she was impressed that I know ALL THOSE WORDS…

My husband loves Toby Mac. He was in concert here a while back and he had to go and see him. I told him that he had to be the oldest person there.
Maybe I wouldn’t feel so old if I’d listen to a little Toby Mac myself!

Yes! Let’s Cruise through Sonic, down to the grocery store, through the Wal-Mart parking lot and back to Sonic again! Windows down, hair blowin’ in the wind, music a blarin’. . .those were the days!

I love his song “I was made to love you”. He’s going to be in my neck of the woods this weekend at the *free* Luis Pulau festival. I’d love to go, but I don’t know if I feel like taking 4 kids with me when the crowds will be huge! Driving around the sonic parking lot, eating tots, and listening to Toby Mac real loud sounds like a ton of fun to this 30-something mom though!!

We love Toby Mac in this house. My daughter is obsessed with “Catch a Fire!” When it comes on the radio we crank it up obnoxiously loud.

Lora Lynn July 10, 2007 at 9:32 pm

Boodawg. That is classic. That one’s a keeper. Maybe you should get a new header, just for days when you’re in a “Boomin’” kind of mood. One that says BOODAWG across the top.

And to think that just today I was LETTING MY FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER DRIVE while we CRANKED IT UP and sang to the radio as I beat on the top of the roof with the windows down and the wind blowin’ through our collective hair and then…and then…THE HUBSTER TOOK ME TO SONIC FOR A ROOTBEER FLOAT!

Oh yes, he did.

I’m telling you, this old lady is living La Vida Loca this summer. Watch out!

well pleased to say I am a 40 something year old mama that adores Toby mac and DO play his blarin music all the time on my Ipod in the car with everything he has written. I love the song he wrote that he does with his 5 year old son. He is awesome.

I’ll take a strawberry slushie with those tots too, please!

And let’s be wild and crazy and not even go during Happy Hour where we can get our Route 44′s for less money! Because that would be too responsible for someone as street and hip as you!

Reply

Robin July 11, 2007 at 8:11 am

I’m surprise you haven’t at least listened to him before! And, I’m all with you on the Sonic except, I’ll take onion rings please.

BTW, did Sonic start using that non-trans fat grease?? The tater tots leave an after taste in my mouth now.

My 13yo son is not out of bed yet at 8:14 (luckily for him it’s not Garbage Day today) so I am not yet being subjected to Boomin’ boomin’ through the house. Thankfully.

But I know it’s just a matter of time.

My 2 oldest kids have listened to him for a while now…I never paid much attention until they went to the Celebrate Freedom Concert in Dallas with some friends….they now have his picture on their own blogs and are calling him “The Macster” :-D
I must admit I enjoyed the 1 song I’ve paid attention to since then… :-D Very ‘Fun’! (…is that word too boring to use on such a hip hoppin’ rockin’ post as this?) and Sonic?…Always! Every Day if I could!

Where have you been girl? Toby Mac has been on my MP3 player for years! Love Toby Mac. He’s awesome to see in concert if you get the chance. So much fun. And yes, I felt like an “oldie but a goodie” at his concert, but it’s worth feeling “old” so see him live!

Blessings,
Georgia Mom

Toby Mac is coming to Omaha this weekend for the Luis Palau festival. I was just going to look up his songs and start listening to them with the 10 and 7 year old. Thanks for the great endorsement.
Wish I could go hear him; but the 2 year old is recovering from having her tonsils out on Friday and is still down for the count. Maybe I’ll make my husband buy me a CD or two.

Jenn July 11, 2007 at 8:37 am

I LOVE this! Toby Mac is big in our house – the kids can dance to it and it is totally safe.

And Sonic? I think I would go to Sonic for just about any reason! Sign me up! :)

Haven’t listened to Toby Mac since I was all up in some DC Talk. I’m still pretty darn hip 13 years later and maybe it’s time to try out some “Boomin’” (when I was reading the post the first time, I thought you were about to say he had a song called “Boomama”… I did a double take!)

We don’t have a Sonic here in the greater Knox Agropolis but we have a Dairy Queen and a regular route for “making a drag” through town. And the DQ has really good tots and Dr Pepper. SO come on west girlfriend. Last September my daughter and I and some other friends and daughters went tothe Revolve Tour in Big D. There was Christian rapper named KJ-52 and let me tell you HE ROCKED THE ARENA! 10000 hands in the air. Lots of white girls gettin it!

I’m a 30-something mama, too, and I am the biggest TobyMac fan! I’ve been a fan since his DCTalk days. I even took my 7-year-old daughter to a TobyMac concert two years ago. I love Boomin’ and anything else he sings. I’m in for the Sonic parking lot – tots and all!
