Katrina’s reading challenge starts today, and while the overachiever in me wants to list twenty books of Staggering Literary Merit, the realist in me knows that, at the beginning of the year, I set some reading goals that were FAR too ambitious.
Because I don’t know if y’all know this, but reading takes time.
So here’s my plan for the challenge: I’m going to pick five books off of my already existing list and commit to those books for the fall.
Peace Like A River – Leif Enger
Prep – Curtis Sittenfeld
The Debt – Angela Hunt
There Is No Me Without You – Melissa Fay Greene
There you have it.
If you’d like to join the challenge, just click on the picture at the top of this post, and you’ll find all the information you need.
Happy reading, y’all!

Ditto the above – Peace Like a River is fantastic!
Enjoy!

The Debt is great! I still have There Is No Me Without You on my to-be-read list, but I don’t think I’ll get to it for Fall into Reading.

The Debt is awesome. I love all of Angela Hunt’s books.

I read Gods in Alabama and hated it. The author is a rare, unnatural creature: a southern woman without subtlety.

I had to make my list super-realistic, too. Time was the reason why I didn’t get all that I wanted to read last year. :-)
September 23rd, 2007 at 6:34 pm
but…but…but…
sigh……I don’t have time to read a book! I am to busy reading blogs!

If you’re anything like me, it may take you all fall to finish “There is No Me Without You.” But it is completely worth the time spent. Fabulous.

September 23rd, 2007 at 7:30 pm
That is great! My ultimate goal is to read my own library!!! :)

Prep got a reaming from critics, but I liked it. Right now I’m reading The World Without Us by Alan Weismann.

I’d like to hear your honest thoughts on Peace Like a River when you read it, because after I read it (with much hype and recommendations as you are), it sort of killed it for me. Maybe I would have loved it if I just picked it up and started reading, but I honestly never got the “it’s the best book I ever read” etc etc. So, let us know. . . .

Yum! Thanks for the great book list!!!

I thought Peace Like a River was wonderful. To me, it was the caliber of To Kill a Mockingbird.

Same Sweet Girls is really good. It’s about 5 women who grew up and went to school in Alabama. Great book!

I hope you enjoy “There is No Me Without You”. I absolutely loved this book and God definitely used it to guide us on our adoption journey. “Peace Like A River” is also wonderful. This sounds silly, but Enger writes some of the most beautiful sentences I have ever read!
Happy reading!!

I read Peace Like A River and LOVED it. It’s so engaging and a great story! There are some books that you just can’t stop reading, and that was one for me…
September 24th, 2007 at 9:07 am
You might want to read Peace Like a River last, because once you read it, everything else will pale in comparison. Looks like a good list!
September 24th, 2007 at 9:16 am
Long lists of Staggering Literary Merit can be over-rated. Better to aim for something do-able and enjoyable. :) I’ll be curious what you think about Peace Like a River, too. I keep hearing good things about it, but I just don’t know if it’s a book I’d enjoy… Thanks for joining Fall into Reading, BooMama!

Oh Nicole took my comment. Let me just give it an “I second her thought” and call it a day.

I haven’t read any of those books, I just wanted to say good luck on your reading. I love the new look around here. I love the brown and the circles.
