Coming Home

October 1, 2007

When I was a freshman in college - right before Christmas break, I think - my dear friend Bubba asked me if I wanted to go home to Tupelo with him. I can’t remember why he was making the trip, but I’m sure it had something to do with needing to wash clothes or wanting a home-cooked meal or praying that his daddy would slip him a little extra cash.

Odds are it was that last thing.

That trip to Tupelo was the first time I met Bubba’s family, and I fell in love with them the second that I met them. They are wonderful people, and Bubba’s precious mama has the best Southern accent in the whole world (no kidding: she could win prizes for it). Even though I don’t get to see them very often, I have never stopped adoring them.

Bubba’s sister Heather was all of 16 when I met her that December, and I can still see her walking through their den wearing a pullover sweater, a plaid skirt, and a big ole bow in her hair.

So basically, you know, what I was wearing.

Heather’s all grown up now - happily married with three beautiful children - and a few months ago she started a blog, Home With Heather. Even though Bubba has always been great about keeping me posted on Heather’s life, it’s been fun to read a first-hand account what her sweet family is up to.

For the last few weeks Heather has been writing about their adoption journey, and knowing that so many of you are in a similar place, I thought you might enjoy reading her family’s incredible story. It’s such a sweet testimony to God’s provision and how intricately He weaves together the details of our lives.

You can start with part one here and find the other installments listed in Heather’s sidebar.

And just FYI: you may want to take a tissue - or eight - with you.

Enjoy, y’all.

As soon as I saw the name “Bubba” I knew I’d like these people and I haven’t even gone over to their site…but, I am. I love knowing the history before I even read it.

Also, isn’t it amazing God’s handy work when He threads so many things together in daily life?!!

    Have a great day Boomama!

I clicked on Heather’s name last week from one of her comments here, and instantly fell in love with her. :) I left a comment on one of her adoption posts and loved her even more when I got an email right back… what a sweet thing she seems to be. She was already my newest blogroll add.

I’m so deeply touched (and honored) that you’ve written a post about my family on your blog. I truly appreciate that more than you can possibly know. One of my greatest desires is that others will see the joy of adoption, and if God is leading them in that direction, they will push forward! It’s certainly been a blessing to our family!

My Mom will be tickled when she reads about her Southern accent….as I’ve always said, she is a true “steel magnolia.”

I, too, remember that day when you came to our home with “Bubba.” I thought you were one of the kindest and FUNNIEST souls I’d ever met. And you & I were most definitely kindred bow-head sisters!!!

    G. received a precious gift from God when He sent you his way. (I’m singing the Watermark song, “More Than You’ll Ever Know,” as I type this, and dedicating it to you from Grant. (I know he’d appreciate me sending out songs of dedication in his name.) I still adore you, too, and wish I could see more of you. Thanks, again, dear friend, for your sweet, sweet words. We certainly give God all the glory for the work He’s done and continues to do in and through our family.

    Much love,
    Heather

I stopped over and read Heather’s adoption story…absolutely beautiful! Is her third child also adopted I wonder?

It’s amazing to see the differences and yet the similarities too between our first adoption journey (leading to Snuggle Bug) through a private domestic adoption and her experiences with adopting through Russia.

    Very cool!

I didn’t know that adoption has affected your family as well. Thanks for sharing the linkage, I enjoy reading about other’s journeys and having the realization that their heads didn’t explode before it was all over.
