Falling

It’s hard for me to believe that it’s been almost a year since we moved, and over the last couple of weeks I’ve thought about how different the fall foliage is here than it was at our former house. Our old neighborhood was a new-ish subdivision where a lot of the trees had been chopped down for the sake of development, and while the nice part of that was that we never had to, you know, rake, the bad part was that we didn’t get to fully enjoy the colors of fall.

But this year? In the new-to-us-but-much-older house where the trees are very, very tall?

We have reveled in the fall.

There have been a couple of days this week when I’ve actually stopped my car at the top of a hill so that I could soak in all the colors – it has been prime time for the golds and the reds and the oranges. And when you take those colors and contrast them against a sky so blue that it almost hurts your eyes – well, it’s been nothing short of breathtaking.

Today after lunch Alex and I went for a walk, and I took the camera with us because I know that soon all the leaves will be gone – we only have a few more days to take in all the gloriousness.

Beautiful pictures! Here in the Northeast we take the foliage for granted sometimes. Thank you for reminding me how lucky we are to have such a picturesque time of year to enjoy!

Beautiful pictures! What kind of camera do you have? I love the fall colors, too, against the Smoky Mountains where we live.

Have a great fall and Thanksgiving weekend!

Beautiful pictures…I’m guessing there are actually 4 seasons where you live? Here in South Louisiana we have 2 seasons, hot and not quite as hot. No such thing as colorful leaves…or hills either for that matter! I would so be taking some pictures too…how fun!

Thanks for sharing,
Holly

Thank you for the reminder to slow down and enjoy life. I am really enjoying your blog. I came via Rocks in my Dryer and have added you to my everday blog reading list. Check mine out if you get a chance! Happy Thanksgiving!

I am in the exact same situation. Since we moved in Feb, I am experiencing fall in the country for the first time. I never knew it was so beautiful!

Gorgeous pictures!

Oh my goodness! These pictures take my breath away. I can only imagine how beautiful the leaves are in person! I wish we had that here, but we don’t.

Thanks for sharing!

Sigh…no such gloriousness here in North Texas. No seasons in these parts! :0)

I miss the long-lasting fall color of your city. Though this year we have had a really good one.

As others have said, we’re not seeing any fall-ness here in the Phoenix area. Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures. Now if only we could get the temp below 85, we might be able to pretend it’s fall!

You gotta love a good southern fall. My neighborhood looks like yours and I couldn’t be happier!

That’s so funny! The exact same thing happened to us this year, too! We moved from a “new” neighborhood with one or two baby trees to 2 acres with lots of mature trees and my girls had a blast jumping in mountains (not mere piles) of leaves this fall! It made up for the whole “no sidewalk thing”.

Dreamy foliage.

Love, love, love your pictures! I’m jealous. We have so few leaves that change here. We’re still in the high 70s so it doesn’t even resemble fall.

Beautiful pictures. They remind me Minnesota just a few weeks ago.

But now, the leaves are on the ground, the sky is mostly gray. We’ve turned the corner. Thanks for the walk down memory lane! Fall is glorious, isn’t it?

::gasp:: THANKS so MUCH for sharing those photos with us!! I surely appreciate it.

We live surrounded by timber. We moved in September, three years ago — I was sooooo looking forward to fall to see how beautiful it was going to be… alas… BROWN, BROWN, BROWN, BROWN… all around UPS BROWN — every year. So — I thank you! I love the colors. °Ü°

Fall is my favorite season. Thanks for sharing the colors from your place. I would share mine, but you would think you were watching WaterWorld 2. And Kevin Costner isn’t even in it.
So sad.

Thank you for sharing the pictures. It made me a little homesick! It has been 9 years since we moved from B’ham to Texas so it was nice to see a glimpse of fall in Alabama. I do remember the fall leaves being so spectacular. Thanks again for sharing.

I know this is totally self-focused, but I told my family that God held off the peak colors for my birthday this year. We had just glorious days this week and peak seemed like it was Tuesday — my birthday. I’ll take that as a birthday present any year. Glorious. Simply glorious.

Loved your pictures, both with and without Alex. Such a doll baby . . . yet not baby anymore.

Great trees! I took some tree pictures recently, too…just so I could remember how beautiful they are. I-20/59 between B’ham and T-town is gorgeous right now!

BTW, I luuuuuv those earrings.

Here in Ct almost all the leaves are gone ~sigh~ and it has gotten so cold and damp. Thanks for sharing your pictures, dying can be beautiful, specially when it makes way for new growth…

Great pics. We woke up to snow this morning. Our leaves have come and gone. Ugh. It is now time to hibernate for the winter.

Between you and Mama, I get to visit fall this year. :>) Thanks for the pictures! You and Alex should do some leaf rubbings. We have done a few and it is a lot of fun.

Well, if you remember, I couldn’t get over the fall foliage when I was there. There is nothing that comes close to that in South Texas.

Nature is good.

Oh, I love this. Moving from Vegas to a place where there are actually trees and fall colors has been a revelation. It seems strange, how touched I am by the beauty of the trees, and walking down certain roads where the trees are all amber and orange and gorgeous almost brings me to tears, and I am not an especially sappy person – and definitely not a weeper. But it moves me.

I spend so much time looking around and thinking, how beautiful, how beautiful. Living among asphault and tile and stucco and rock, I couldn’t feel the gift of the trees and the mountains. But it is such a gift. If we have to move back, I will miss my friends, I will miss a lot of things, but I think most of all I’ll miss the trees.

Well, BooMama, since I’m on a roll with leaving comments that have nothing to do with your post (this is the second in a row… is that a roll?) ANYWAY I’m just feeling the need to say a little goodbye to you (yes, I have the co-dependency issues too!) cuz I’m taking a little blog vacation until at least January and while you probably won’t miss me I’m gonna miss you! : ) I’m realizing I need to spend less time online and more time actually talking to my friends and taking walks with my kids (even if the leaves here go straight from green to brown.) So to have a little closure, I’m just sayin’ bye for now and have a treasure-filled Thanksgiving and Christmas. : )

Fall is my favorite. Our leaves have been gone for a few weeks now and I always wish they would stay longer. Maybe that’s part of the beauty of them…knowing you only get them for a short amount of time so you have to eat them up. Not literally of course. ew. :)

I could cry looking at those colors and your street… my parents are driving on their way out there for Thanksgiving as I type, and I’m trying so hard not to be jealous of that fact that it’ll actually be FALL on Thanksgiving day for them. Ah, Sohpie, you are just too blessed to live in Alabama. What I’d give to be out there, too…
