Before you look at these pictures, you should know that when I paint I just jump right in.
Which is why you see an end table on the bed.
Because I had to put it somewhere, and moving it to another room would have disrupted the creative process.
Same for, you know, the beach towel.

Hideous Blue

Hateful Primer

Soothing Yellowish-Taupe Color
I need to go over the area next to the ceiling ONE MORE TIME, and then I’ll start putting the room back together.
With end tables ON THE FLOOR and everything.
I’ll post some more pics whenever I get everything dekky-rated.
And p.s. – I have never looked worse than I do right this second.
Thank you.

I loves, loves, loves!
November 18th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
Looks great!! So much warmer and more inviting than the blue!!
November 18th, 2007 at 7:39 pm
Sophie,
That color looks wonderful! Would you mind sharing the name of the color you used?
Thanks!
Kat

I always thought it was more of a deep teal green, but that’s probably just the Excellent Quality Monitor I have. Are those HANDPRINTS on the blue wall, or is it my imagination?
And really, you could have left it with just the primer and called it your interpretation of clouds or something.
Except clouds are not usually of the rectangular or square sort.
All in all, a MUCH better choice to go with the Soothing Yellowish-Taupe color. Good choice!

GAW-JUS!
November 18th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
much, much better!!
November 18th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
Seriously, so pretty! Love the yellow. Great work!
November 18th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
Love the new color!
I am the same way. When I get a wild hair I just jump right in and get started. It is the only way to do it. ;)
November 18th, 2007 at 7:47 pm
Very pretty!!! I’m the same way when I paint. Drives Husband CUH-RAZY because I don’t adequately “prep”. BAH!
November 18th, 2007 at 7:56 pm
I can’t believe you did that so fast!! I LOVE the color!!
xo.
November 18th, 2007 at 7:56 pm
I love the blue trim. It’s lovely, and so straight :)
November 18th, 2007 at 7:57 pm
Love it! My living room and den are that same color–I have never gotten tired of it!
November 18th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
Ah…that is the perfect color. The same color is in my bedroom and we LOVE it.
I don’t know why, but when I describe the color I just want to say “warm vanilla sugar”.
November 18th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
LOVE the new yellow color!! ;-)
November 18th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
Bee-yoo-tee-ful! I’m with JP’s Mom with “warm vanilla sugar.”
November 18th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
Girl, you have done OUTDID yo’ little self. Looks great!
November 18th, 2007 at 8:20 pm
Beautiful! I would really love to know the color name too, if you don’t mind?
November 18th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
Looks awesome! That’s how I paint, everything in big pile.
November 18th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
oops. everything in one big pile.
November 18th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
You know, I have a green kitchen that has been staring me in the face for the last five months, and I have yet to brave it.
You inspire me.
It just looks so EASY when someone posts pictures like this! I forget that it is totally not like that when *I* paint!
(It really is beautiful. Good job.)
November 18th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
OH, that looks incredible. It’s amazing the difference paint can make, isn’t it?
November 18th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
Great job!
You were right about the blue – it is awful.
November 18th, 2007 at 8:47 pm
We have to talk about “taupe”
November 18th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
love it!
November 18th, 2007 at 9:29 pm
Love it!

I have painted entire rooms without drop cloths while dancing around furniture because I don’t want to “disrupt the creative process.”
In the heat of the creative moment, it seems easier to get paint *out* of the carpet than to never let it hit in the first place.
Which is why I’m the worst painter alive.
November 18th, 2007 at 10:18 pm
It always amazes me how lighter colors really open up a room and make a room look bigger. And that is exactly what I thought looking at the third picture. Of course it’s the same room but it does look like more (open) space, somehow.
November 18th, 2007 at 10:21 pm
Oh wow, what a beautiful, beautiful color!
November 18th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
If you watch House Hunters then you know that people pick the most hideous colors for their rooms. What could they have been thinking with that blue in your house? It’s so dark it’s a wonder you didn’t have to do 2 coats of primer. And remember I own a lumberyard so I know whereof I speak! lol
Also Designed to Sell – it’s amazing what people do and call it decorating. But it’s my favorite show – especially when Lisa LaPorta is the designer.
The transformation in your guest room is incredible – good job.
Hugs,
Marie
And yes I still do hair too!! ;)
November 18th, 2007 at 10:35 pm
That color is Beautiful! The new one, I mean. :)
Here’s hoping a long bath will get that paint out from under your fingernails.
November 18th, 2007 at 10:44 pm
I do the same thing! I hate moving the furniture in an orderly manner.
I am this very moment vacillating between covertly painting the dining room tomorrow in preparation for the First Thanksgiving at our house or being sensible and restraining myself to merely cooking and cleaning. I am so tempted. . .
November 18th, 2007 at 11:10 pm
Very nice color. It makes the room look so much larger, not to mention, it is a soothing color.
November 18th, 2007 at 11:15 pm
Looks lovely!
And you managed to bump the Arkansas logo just a little bit further down, too.
November 18th, 2007 at 11:41 pm
Love the new color! Very warm and welcoming.
November 19th, 2007 at 12:33 am
Love the color…total transformation. I’m so impressed you did it yourself. I’m a horrible painter. I get it everywhere except on the wall.
November 19th, 2007 at 12:39 am
Wow, what a difference a color makes. The room looks very clean and warm, even with the nightstand on the bed. I totally do the same thing. Really, who can be bothered with moving everything into another room?
Great job!
November 19th, 2007 at 5:56 am
Way to go! Love the color. It will look so nice when it’s done. Of course, I think this is the hardest part…making yourself finish the little stuff when the big picture looks okay.
November 19th, 2007 at 6:21 am
You’re right. The blue was hideous. I LOVE the new color. A job well done :)
November 19th, 2007 at 6:41 am
Boomama…Please tell us what Brand & Color you used! I am trying to find the right color for my living room…This might be it!
BTW, the room looks great! Looks like you have the same tecnnique for painting as I do!
November 19th, 2007 at 6:43 am
Looks great! Are you for hire? You could do whatever you wanted with the furniture….
November 19th, 2007 at 7:20 am
Oh My Goodness Gracious — you are RIGHT?? That is a hideous blue. Usually I’m more… tactful… but well — I have to agree with you this time… it’s a good thing you painted!!
AND — I might add.. it looks G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S.
I probably feel this way because 1/2 my house is this shade of gorgeous. LOL!
THANKS for sharing!!
November 19th, 2007 at 7:29 am
I can’t believe how much a color can change a room. It looks so warm with the yellow. Want to come do mine? LOL!
Smiles!
November 19th, 2007 at 7:37 am
Such a difference! Love the new color, very warm and cozy;)
November 19th, 2007 at 7:52 am
It looks good. I understand the progression of what needed to be done and how you ended up painting in that room. It makes perfect sense. It’s the same reason why my laundry room is still not cleaned out. It’s b/c of the domino effect!!!!!! It’s just connected to so many other rooms!!!
November 19th, 2007 at 7:56 am
Please, please tell us the exact paint color and brand – it is beautiful! I’ve got some hideous burgandy walls I want to repaint!
November 19th, 2007 at 8:05 am
I LOVE that color! Good job!!
November 19th, 2007 at 8:23 am
You are my hero!
November 19th, 2007 at 8:43 am
Looks great!
November 19th, 2007 at 10:50 am
I like that yellowish-taupe (that’s the official name, right? =) ), though I didn’t think the blue was that hideous. It looks like it really brightened up the room, which will be nice for winter!
