A Fine Phooey Giveaway

Phooey by Marc Rosenthal

Over the last few weeks I’ve received a couple of great children’s books, and I’m giving away copies of both of them this week.

ISN’T THAT FUN?

I do love me some great children’s books.

The first book I’m giving away is called Phooey, written and illustrated by Marc Rosenthal. This book is filled with wonderful, eclectic illustrations that manage to be fanciful and nostalgic and current all at the same time. In fact, I’ve even thought that I would love to frame some of the illustrations and use them in a nursery if I ever have another baby.

Despite the fact that I’m starting to give Sarah a run for her money.

Oh, I kid because I’m old.

Anyway.

What Alex loves about this book is that reading it requires his daddy to make all sorts of sound effects, and I don’t know if y’all know this, but four year-old little boys are slightly entertained by funny noises. In fact, funny noises rank only slightly below ice cream on the four year-old little boy list of BEST THINGS EVER, and yes, that observation is based on years and years of arduous research conducted in laboratories and hospitals and Other Places Where Smart People Decide Things.

You can’t argue with science, people.

And seriously? If you could hear how Alex giggles when his daddy reads him this book? You would run out and buy yourself a copy rightthissecond.

I have three copies to give away, and if you’d like a chance to win one of them, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post. I’ll close comments on Friday, November 23 and then use my BFF Random.org to select the winners.

And whatever you do, do not click here. Because you will start to play and then one of your kids will want to play and GOOD LUCK, SISTER, at tearing the two of you away from the computer.

Not that I’d know anything about that, of course.

I am a children’s book hound. I have books in a box in my attic that I won’t allow my child to have yet. I would let him read this one, of course, if I won it.

We love to read! Scholastic Book Club is our favorite club ever!!

Beth @ The Natural Mommy November 19, 2007 at 12:11 pm

I’d love this book for our toddler, even though she’s a girl. She loves the sound effects as well. AND (as if I needed another reason to win this book) our baby boy will be a toddler way before I want him to be one. And I’m sure he’ll enjoy the sound effects as well.

Emily C November 19, 2007 at 12:13 pm

I’m a teacher and need more children’s books in my life!

Melinda November 19, 2007 at 12:14 pm

OOOHHHH…I want to win! My little boy would have a great time with all of the sound effects! Have a wonderful day :)

Butterbean November 19, 2007 at 12:14 pm

Pick me…although that may be difficult b/c my comments are apparently invisible to the random generator! Hahahaha!

Happy Thanksgiving!

My sister’s foster son, age 3 would love that book.

Roxanne November 19, 2007 at 12:49 pm

Hi Boomama,

If your little guys like silly books try “My little sister ate one hare” by Bill Grossman. My daughter had this book memorized in one weekend. I think I read it at least forty times over 2 days. It is a tad gross, so you might want to take a look at it yourself. But I just love it – although that may say more about me than my daughter :) She was 5 at the time.

Take care

Jenny November 19, 2007 at 12:51 pm

This book sounds like too much fun! My boys are 20 and 22 and I’m starting to collect children’s books for my grandchildren (someday. . . after college and Law School)! I don’t think, though, that your BFF Random.org can actually see my comments! :(

Stephanie November 19, 2007 at 1:11 pm

Sign me up – I have an almost 3 yr old boy that would probably love it =)

Kristen M. November 19, 2007 at 1:15 pm

Well of course I had to click “here”. I love the sound effects on the matching game. I too have a four year old boy and I think he and I would love this book.

Andrea November 19, 2007 at 1:20 pm

Oh so fun! I’m in – I have a 4 year old girl… who’s a tom-boy so the silly sounds thing is right on! lol

Thanks!

Yummy. Haven’t seen that one yet. And I CAN NOT CLICK HERE, ’cause I’m home from work (teaching school) playing hookey to clean my house and make my bedroom a veritable oasis. . .and I have to set the timer to not over extend my computer time. Methinks I need to give up the computer for Thanksgiving. . .as soon as I read Pioneer Woman’s next entry of Black Heels to Tractor Wheels that is. . .and you post pictures of your decorated guest room and . . .I am a very, very sick puppy.

Anne N. November 19, 2007 at 1:21 pm

Count me in!!! We love books in this house.

Melissa November 19, 2007 at 1:36 pm

I heard someone else recommend this book recently! And as far as sound effects – let’s just say that over the weekend we resorted to potty humor and inappropriate noises to get our 4.5 year to smile for pictures! :)

Holly Smith November 19, 2007 at 1:37 pm

We have two boys and two girls who LOVE noises and ice cream and books!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful for YOU! You are a bright spot in my day and each time I thank God for the gift of laughter through you. I pray for your things and stuff.
Love,
holly
