Cali-For-Nie-Ay

in Rambling

So yesterday the husband and I got on a big ole airplane and flew out to sunny southern California. And then, after we arrived, we went to a rehearsal dinner for our friends Todd and Marti.

img_1781.jpg

Because those two crazy kids are getting married tomorrow.

I KNOW!

And you know what else? Today we woke up to this view:

img_1798.jpg

It is sort of pretty here.

And just in case you’re wondering, we left the child at home. I mean, we didn’t leave him by himself or anything. We won’t do that until he’s at least, you know, seven. We feel that’s reasonable.

D. and I had a wide-open day today, and after debating what we could do to fill it up, we decided to go to Disneyland, which is TOTALLY what most 30-something married couples do when they don’t have kids with them for a weekend. Right?

Oh, I know. We’re a little strange. But we had a blast.

And I’m not saying that we got there early this morning or anything, but here’s what the parking garage looked like when we climbed out of the car.

img_1799.jpg

OH YES MA’AM.

We really did have the best time; plus, since the crowds weren’t bad, we were able to ride our favorite rollercoasters over and over again.

Which is why we rode Space Mountain four times.

And why we rode Tower of Terror at least five times.

And why I screamed myself silly.

Because I am, after all, terribly sophisticated.

Hope y’all have a great weekend!

Oh girl, I was just IN Cali-For-Nie-Ay!
I have been posting about it.

Have a great time and yes, the roller coaster sounds perfectly normal to me. (except I would have been merely watching – I am scared of them).

Have a wonderful time in sunny Cali! Looking at the picture of the empty parking lot at Disney reminded me of Chevy Chase’s movie Vacation @ Wally World. heehee

It’s snowing in the South! We have snow in Nashville. In March.

Love,
Patty

OH. HOW. FUN. You made a great choice! I was there for business once & had a free Saturday. I spent the ENTIRE day by myself at Disney Land. Got there at opening & didn’t leave until closing. It was one of theeee best days of my life! Sure, I felt just a little guilty when I’d call back home to the cold and rainy east coast & my husband had 2 cryin’ young uns in the background…but then I’d ride Space Mountain one more time & I’d get over it. ;-]

Well now, that is just some good clean fun! Have a great time at the wedding too. btw, the child sure does have the grands figured out…I love that he thought he was letting you in on a secret!

That is EXACTLY what Mr. Right and I would have done. Who says you can’t be 30ish and have fun. Those people will be in the grave way before us, even if they’re still living.

Congrats to Todd and Marti! May they love each other more and more with each passing day!

Oh, you did not?!

Have a blast!

What a fun day! Two friends and I went to Disneyland for a few hours after a business trip. We had a GREAT TIME! My boss says that Disney is really for adults, not kids. :)

Hope the wedding goes well. :)

If we were to find ourselves ALONE for a weekend, T. and I would immediately aim our car towards Disney World. We honeymooned there, that’s how sophisticated WE are. And we went to Disneyland that day we got engaged.

Have a BLAST in Los Angeles. If you get a chance, get a hotdog at Pinks on La Brea (I think). Oh. My. Goodness.

I’m so jealous! You’re missing some snow here! It’s freezing!

Reply

Minnesotamom March 8, 2008 at 7:27 am

You can still have fun together and be kids yourself. Not many couples can say that!

BethC March 8, 2008 at 7:34 am

While you are enjoying the beautiful weather, we are having another one of our huge snow storms in Alabama! I know you’re sad. At least Alex can tell you all about it.

If you find yourself with more time, drive up the PCH to Malibu and eat at Malibu Seafood. http://www.malibuseafood.com/

Right on the water, the BEST fried everything, and you might see some stars. ;)

If my husband and I had a free day to spend in Southern California, we would head straight to Disneyland, with or without the kids. And I wouldn’t feel silly about it even for a minute. I’m glad you had a great time. I’m a big believer in time away with just the Hubs.

Michelle March 8, 2008 at 7:46 am

Ahhhh, sunny southern California. Sounds wonderful. I don’t think I could get away with going to Disneyland without my daughter. I am terrified of roller coasters but love the kiddie rides. I’m not sure I could get away with getting on all those without a child with me. Have a great weekend.

Stephanie(ocean mommy) March 8, 2008 at 7:56 am

AHHHHH The ocean. I’m jealous, in a pure and godly way of course….

And YES, we would totally do Disneyland without the kids!!

Have a great time, I’m looking forward to a wedding post. I love a good love story!!

Well, people, just an older lady checking in to tell you that you can go to Disney Land or Disney world without your kids or grandkids and have a good ole time. We went last year…I’m not much into the rides, so I waited while he rode all the “scary”ones so that he could tell the grandkids that he did…..love DisneyWorld. So glad you two can have fun just the two of you, what a blessing for you and your kids, means you are good parents. Yeah, you missed the snow, we had almost six inches in Memphis.

Lora Lynn March 8, 2008 at 8:13 am

Oh, that sounds like so much fun. Hubs and I were supposed to go away for the first time in almost two years, and my son got the chicken pox. Sigh. Maybe next year.

Reminds me a little bit of National Lampoon’s Vacation when they show up to Wally World…

I SO would have done the same thing! Good for y’all! ! ! I got a day totally by myself at Epcot when my daughter was 4 and loved every minute of it! I have even dreamed about it over and over! And you cannot beat Tower of Terror! My favorite ride ever, ever, ever! Thanks for the update.

When we lived in San Diego, my friends and I (all childless at the time) visited Disney on a regular basis. (It’s cheap for SoCal residents; they offer a big discount on the off-season.) I actually got tired of Disney. That’s how much we went.

Have FUN at the wedding today. Soak up some sunshine. I have all sorts of restaurant recommendations in my head, but the #1 is Get Thee to an In-N-Out Burger. Quintessential California cuisine. (Only no avocados. Bummer.)

I cannot believe how empty the parking garage was…were you the first ones there?!

BTW~the Disney land of my childhood did not have a parking garage. it just seems weird that they do now…

Heather March 8, 2008 at 9:55 am

Such a jet-setter you are — first Uganda and Now Califonia – poor, poor little Alex having to go to the grandparents again (and get spoiled rotton AGAIN).

;-) I am totally kidding! But DON’T tell him you went to Disney without him!!

Reply

shelley March 8, 2008 at 10:02 am

Ya know, that just makes me like you even more. We have some friends who like to get together and have an “adults only” night at a local theme park every now and then. It’s a total blast every time! Enjoy the nice weather!

Amanda - VintageDutchGirl March 8, 2008 at 10:06 am

Love DisneyLand, Disney World, basically anything that has really fast rollercoasters that go upside down! Too bad the hubby gets sick on them :)

Reply

Shannon H March 8, 2008 at 10:11 am

Disneyland without kids is my idea of a Good Time! And no crowds is like my ultimate fantasy. Yeah, I’m jealous.

I used to LOVE rides. But after kids? My stomach does a little flip even thinking about it.

Tragedy, I know.

GIRL! I hope you have made time in your schedule to enjoy an In-n-Out Burger!!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Disneyland for a date day!

I have an annual pass and go there with my nieces just to hang out and have dinner!

So have I missed something – the most important factoid about this weekend? WHAT ARE YOU WEARIN’? We know your hair is just fab and sounds like you and the hubs had a grand time (I am NOT a rides person – I like nature parks – not things that make me wanna upchuck and scream – I have livestock – I get enough of that).
Again – the simple details of your to die for outfits – if you are in the wedding party – ya gotta show the dress!

Tammy March 8, 2008 at 10:46 am

Dern it, Boo, if I’d a’known you was comin’, I’d a’ baked a cake. I was there myself yesterday, although being a TRUE sophisticate, I spent most of my time on The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. (I’m 44, and don’t have kids. And no, therapy has not helped my Pooh-bear obsession any.)

Please give my congratulations and very best wishes to the bride and groom!

didja take a picture riding on the rollercoaster? you know of yourself screamin’? i LOVE rollercoasters!

This is the best time to go to Disneyland. We are going in 2 weeks.

Glad you had fun. Hey I love Disneyland both with and without the kids. Tower of Terror is my fave!

Reply

Richard March 8, 2008 at 1:32 pm

We were at the big D yesterday also. (We have annual passes, so we go quite a bit with the kids.) My wife and I got passes long before the kids came along. It’s a totally normal place for reasonable adults to go and have a great time.

And this is the PERFECT time of year to go. Not too crowded, you get to ride anything you want. Enjoy your time here!

Andrea March 8, 2008 at 1:58 pm

One of my favorite things to do in the whole wide world is to go to DLand with hubby and NO KIDS! As much fun as it is to go with the family- I love it even more when it’s just me and J… We’ve gone several times sans kids and loved it each and every time!

Reply

BrownEyedGirl March 8, 2008 at 2:57 pm

The parking lot is quite the shining example of the fact that you’re in your 30s and have no kids with you, otherwise you would have NEVER been there so early that there were no other cars!

Reply

Betsy Bird March 8, 2008 at 3:13 pm

I hope your hair looked as beautiful at Disneyworld as it did in your bathroom mirror, although I am a bit concerned that Tower of Terror may have mussed it a bit.

Reply

PajamaMama March 8, 2008 at 3:14 pm

Are you kidding!?!?!? Of COURSE it’s ok for just the mommy and daddy to go to Disney w/o kids. We did it last year for our anni…three nights at DW. Yes, we took the whole family this past Jan and stayed a week. But I’ll never forget our 3 nights/days alone….We had a BLAST. And the food….the food…the food.

Glad you had that time with your hubby.

Melanie March 8, 2008 at 3:33 pm

Oh I am so stinkin’ jealous right now! I love rollercoasters!

I’d take Disney over a candlelight dinner any ol’ day!

Glad you had fun and you don’t HAVE to tell the boy that you went without him…shhh!
