I watched THE ENTIRE video. UGLY high waisted jeans and all waiting to see if there was any kind of funny Rachel and Paula throw down spoof. Nothing. Nada. Dude.

  5. mamom says:

OMG!!! I luuurved Rick back in the DAY! I watched a bunch of his other videos after this one. I realize it was a joke but seriously people, the 80’s were MY times! I was in my early 20’s, single, first job, first apartment. Some seriously GOOD times. The summer of ‘87 my best friends and I got a cottage down the Cape and this tape (yes, I said TAPE) was played over and over, along with 10,000 Maniacs “In My Tribe”. The funny thing is that I’m getting together for lunch tomorrow with the same girls I was with that summer; maybe I’ll bring my Rick Astley tape? ;) Thanks for the prank Boo Mama, you made my day!

Oh my goodness - what an April’s Fool’s fool I was! Good trick my friend - I’d still almost pay to see Rachel Ray and Paula Baby go at it with fried chicken!

  8. Smockity Frocks says:

Good one! It only took me ONE FULL MINUTE to get it. No ma’am, you can’t get much past me…

  9. Beth @ The Natural Mommy says:

    I learned something new today.

And something innocent within me died today.

Now, if you please excuse me, my toddler wants to watch that video again.

  10. Sister says:

    I’m watching it again. :)

    Thank you so much.
That made my day in a way that only being held at gunpoint or receiving a life-threatening diagnosis could.

  12. Erica (A Yankee In Jawja) says:

I watched simply because I didn’t believe Racheal Ray knew anything about fried chicken!

I loved Rick when I was young…I thought for certain he and I would be “together forever…it’s true.”

    April 1st, 2008 at 12:50 pm

  13. Dori says:

Okay, I can’t believe I’m going to tell this because I’m not sure I’ve ever told this AND it is at the expense of someone who I really do like a lot!

    Here goes:

Back in the late 80’s when the Rickster had this song out (which I love — had the cassette!), Travis, Angela and I were singing in a group together at our church. I distinctly remember having this conversation with The World’s Greatest Worship Leader (have to build him up before I tell this):

Me: Hey Travis, I think you sound like that guy, Rick Astley.

TC: Wow — I love him. That’s quite a compliment! Thanks!!

    Yes, indeedy — it happened!

Why I would remember that I will never know. But this I know: I didn’t dream it. It happened, ya’ll!!

    Blessings,
    Dori

P.S. Trav, if you read this…please don’t kill me. I think Rick had one of the best voices of the late 80’s…except for you, of course!! :)

  14. Robin (PENSIEVE) says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I started it over, twice, totally confused. Then, I searched on youtube for Rachael and my sweet Paula…

IT TOOK ME THAT LONG TO GET IT AND I STILL DIDN’T GET IT! Until I hit your comments and saw your obnoxious little stunt.

I bow, BooMama…and I’m totally copying this idea (and HTing you) b/c Paula and I are such close friends.

    Daggum, you got me.

  15. kelli says:

20 years ago, when John burned this album from CD to cassette for me, so I could listen to it over ans over and over and over and over and over ans over and over and over and over in my car … I knew he was the guy for me.

Thanks for the April Fools joke, and the reminder.

I think I’ll need to do something special for that guy tonight …

Don’t you just love this fun holiday! I posted a recipe on my blog that I pulled on my kiddies years ago when they were small … I couldn’t help but think of you doing this for “Howard” so you could get him good! Check it out on my blog … so fun!

  20. Kelly @ Love Well says:

I love April Fool’s Day even more than I love Rick Astley.

This morning, NPR said Google mail recently released a feature that allows people to back-date their e-mails. So you can send an e-mail to that friend a week after their birthday and look like you sent it the day of.

This story brought to you by Google April Fool’s.

    April 1st, 2008 at 1:36 pm

  21. Nicole @ Life in Progress says:

Oh, I am dim. I watched the first 30 seconds and thought, “Oh, Boo. Bless her heart. She has posted the wrong link. I’ll go to the comments and see if anyone has alerted her.” I should not be allowed out of the house without supervision.

    April 1st, 2008 at 1:37 pm

  22. Becky Jo says:

    Tooooooo stinkin funny!!!
Not only do I have the humiliation of knowing (and now sharing!) that I watched the entire video waiting for the brawl (just kiddin, I figured it out pretty quick!), but I also get to be reminded that, yes, I did indeed dress like that at one time.
And to think, that time was, in my mind, the peak of my attractiveness.

Makes you both scared and anxious to see a pic of me now, don’t it?!?!?!

    April 1st, 2008 at 1:39 pm

  23. Jenn says:

Bahahahahaha! I watched the entire video waiting for Paula Deen and Rachael Ray and some chicken…never a thought that it was April fools day.

    Good one :)

And why don’t I remember Rick Astley having red hair? Oh, maybe because I was like 8 when this was out :)

    April 1st, 2008 at 1:40 pm

  24. Georgia Mom says:

You got me!! But, I do like that song, so I got a little something out of it. But, I did check the link 3 times, just in case you were wondering what poor fool would be so dumb as to not think it was an April Fool’s joke and check the link 3 times and then still not get it until she came to see if others were connecting to the same wrong link.

    April 1st, 2008 at 1:41 pm

  25. Shalee says:

Okay, it’s official. I’m old and out of the loop. I had no idea about being RickRoll’d. Thanks for making me smile!

Oh, I used to listen to that song with my hair “blowing kisses in the wind”!

  27. Stephanie says:

You definitely got me! I had to read the comments to see if YOU had made some mistake - Was that guy lip-syncing?

    April 1st, 2008 at 1:50 pm

  28. Megan(FriedOkra) says:

I love them both, you know, but I do seriously doubt that’d be much of a Throwdown. I mean, you just KNOW Paula would mop up the kitchen with Rachael Ray in that scenario. Afta dippin’ her in seasoned buttahmilk, of cawuss. That was a bouncy little number there, though, courtesy of Mr. Rick. I had to dance a little bit in my chair. Thanks for the belly laugh, sister.

    April 1st, 2008 at 1:53 pm

  29. Tabitha says:

I wanted to see some fried chicken! Seriously, I’ve been craving fried chicken for the last month, about everyday, so if I hear fried chicken I need some. Why, yes, I am pregnant, why do you ask?

I hadn’t heard about rick rolling until just now…fun.

  42. beth says:

i just want you to know that i had everyone in my library convinced that we had finally found the holy grail of online cooking because of THE BOOMAMA.

i will have to hang my head in shame when i go to work tomorrow, only because i will have to confess that it was an april fool’s day joke.

since youtube is blocked in my school’s library and all.

    whatever.

just so you know, boomama, i am obviously the world’s biggest doof, because i was ALL ABOUT clickin’ on Staci at Writing and Living’s link to watch me some paula and rachael.

anybody else out there got links to things that aren’t paula deen and rachael ray cooking fried chicken?

    send them directly to me.

it’ll save you time from having to post them in the long run.

  43. Sherri says:

Wow! I really enjoyed watching that video. It was a cool song when I was in college. I was still hungry for chicken though. So glad Staci provided the link for Paula and Rachael. It made my day.

    April 1st, 2008 at 4:07 pm

  44. Kelly says:

Is it wrong that instead of being upset not to see the chicken throw down I was excited to see Rick Astley?
It brought back some teen age angst! :-)

    April 1st, 2008 at 4:15 pm

  45. Tanya says:

You fooled me! I thought it was real because I remember seeing Paula and Rachael together on a Christmas special a few years ago. Paul seemed a little irritated with Rachael’s cooking style (lack of measuring etc.) So the thought of them actually having a throwdown sounded pretty interesting.
