In Which I’m Giving Away Mr. Darcy

May 5, 2008

Today I had a delightful lunch with my hubby and my little man, and when I got home I noticed a FedEx box propped against the front door.

And do you know what was inside that FedEx box? The one and only Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy.

Well, I mean, it’s Mr. Darcy in DVD form. But still. It was a very special moment. And I think we should have ourselves a little giveaway to celebrate.

(However, I should probably warn you that my cousin Paige is visiting right now, and given the fact that she has never met a British romance that she didn’t absolutely love, I’m probably going to have to hide the DVDs for the next 24 hours.)

(In fact, she turned on the TV last night with the sole purpose of catching the last few minutes of “Masterpiece Theatre.” Neveryoumind that I couldn’t even tell her what channel PBS is on because as you know I AM VERY CULTURED AND REFINED.)

So.

If you’d like to win The Romance Collection Special Edition, which is bascially over 30 hours of “star-studded, classic literary adaptations on 14 DVDs” (you can see all the details right here), all you have to do is leave a comment and tell me so. I’ll leave the giveaway open until tomorrow night at 6 o’clock central time, at which point I’ll select a winner using random.org.

And just for kicks, tell me your favorite romantic movie when you leave your comment.

Oh, it’ll be jolly good fun.

(Sorry.)

(I couldn’t help it.)

(Sorry.)

This giveaway is now closed.

Oh please, random.org, please pick me! I really would love to have those movies conveniently queued up on the Apple TV so I can lose myself in some fine romance classics. It would really make my day after some twit leaves a pile of garbage outside my front door because he obviously thinks I would sink so low as to drink *Cherry Coke Zero*! And then leave my trash somewhere besides the dumpster! Obviously, twit neighbor doesn’t know that I enjoy every single calorie of the plain bonafide Coke Classic. And I don’t litter.

Sorry, that was really more than you wanted to know, I’m sure. But it sure felt good to get it out :-)

  192. shawna says:

kami…you MUST see the “true” version of pride and prejudice. it is the best.

while i don’t necessarily want to win, (there are much needier girls than me in the posts before mine) i feel it must be said that while pride and prejudice is wonderful, sense and sensibility is by far the best jane austen ever did. i love it. i watch it frequently and wish that i would have lived in those days. i want to be marianne dashwood (or lizzie) when i grow up, but i do hope to find darcy–my own darcy, of course (or willoughby…shoot, i’d even take edward) willing to marry me instead of having to settle for col. brandon. though he was precious, too.

those of you that love jane as much as i do should check out this site i found the other day.

    http://www.cafepress.com/buy/jane+austen/-/x_19/source_searchBox/y_7

we should start a national jane austen day. why not? she’s changed the world. well, my world, anyway.

  193. mrs. f5 says:

Would you believe that, to my ninetysomething grandmother’s dismay, I have never seen any version whatsoever of Pride and Prejudice? Nor read the book!

‘Tis true. ‘Tis a great, great shame. ‘Tis also my week o’ birthday. ‘TIS.

Favorite romantic movie? Oh, I think I love ‘em all. But since I have to choose one, I’ll go with a serious oldie but a goodie that hasn’t yet been mentioned:

Desk Set, with darling, witty Hepburn and cranky, charming Tracy. Bonus: for our seventh anniversary, mr. f5 gifted me with a copy of my very own.

Because for one’s seventh anniversary, the suggested gift? Is desk sets. LOVE MR. F5.

I like more of a hybrid romance–something light or funny, like Notting Hill or even Hitch. And I’m lucky because my hubby will watch those with me.

A Jane Austen-esque show–well I’m on my own there, so I’d love to have a stash to watch on days at home when I need a good fix.
