I’m A Little Blisty

May 8, 2008

Tonight’s episode of The Office was a mighty fine one indeed, with a nice combination of Pam and Jim tenderness, Michael awkwardness, deferred dream bittersweetness, and PLENTY-O-ANDYNESS.

Loved it.

A few highlights:

1. “My grandfather would be spinning in his URN if he knew I was out here with a Dartmouth boy.”

2. “I got my knot on.”

3. “Maybe for you paper should be more of a hobby.”

4. “…and then you sneezed in my tea, and then you said it was just allergies.”

5. “Are you serious?”
“Yes. And don’t call me Shirley.”

6. Andy and the golf cart, OH MY WORD.

7. Michael’s commentary on the kissing, which was simultaneously creepy and hysterical, but definitely more hysterical than creepy.

And I know it’s silly, but I was so proud of Jim getting that paper contract that I wanted to hug him. Despite the fact that he’s a made-up person working at a made-up paper company.

But still. It all felt VERY REAL to me.

So. Thoughts?

I loved “I’m dating Obama.” Andy and the golf cart was just hilarious. I cannot believe the season finale is next week. We seriously got gypped on these episodes.

I’m so miffed. I haven’t seen The Office for 2 seasons now (conflicting childrens’ bedtimes and lack of DVR), so I decided to drop by Blockbuster to pick up the greatness that is an entire season in one nice DVD set. Would you believe that Blockbuster, in their admitted capitalist genius, is now packaging seasons in 2-3 episodes PER rental? So now to get a whole season, I have to rent like 4 separate DVDs. The Office is totally worth the money, but come on now! :0)

Can somebody help me down from my soapbox now? haha!

Now, wait just a minute there missy. Jim IS real and I heart him.

I’m not angry with myself for deciding “I’ll just wait and watch it online” because the episode is only 1/2 over here on the West Coast and I could totally be watching it right now instead of reading about it’s greatness. Oh well, something to look forward to for my Friday night :)

um, that would be NOW angry with myself, not NOT angry… proofreading would be a good idea before clicking “submit comment” :(

I kind of wanted to see more happen with Angela and Dwight…do you think they went out after work?

michael: Daryl will hire some kids for the warehouse. We don’t have to worry about any internships for them, because they definately ain’t going to college.
daryl: What college did you go to, man?
    michael: LET’S GO!

I was kinda non plussed by it, even though I’m a die-hard Jim fan. I blogged about it. I feel better.

I found a dress I loved at Macy’s but they didn’t have it in my size. They had to order it in from the Scranton, PA “branch” and I was giggly and oh- so happy.

  11. Annie says:

I can’t stand Stanley. He has lost my good graces forever.

When Andy flew off the golf cart, I laughed louder than anyone in the room. And I’m proud of that.

  12. Amberly says:

I thought it was hilarious at the beginning of the show when Michael said something like, “We’ve got to YOUTHanize this place!”

I also liked when Jim and Pam were on the phone and at the end of the conversation Jim said, “I really like you” or something like that. I heart Jim!

  13. Johna says:

Well, my faves have already been named “I’m a little blisty” and the golf cart - oh my word - the golf cart. That was a TIVO treasure trove!!! I have watched that scene over and over….but what about the Pam interview with the graphics design guy at the end??? What vibe did you get from it? I haven’t figured that one out.

    May 9th, 2008 at 7:18 am

  14. Mama D says:

Sadly, I could so relate to Pam’s interview with the graphics design dude at the end…
The scene with all the golfers drinking their beers with straws was really funny, they could have so developed that in to a great ending…

    May 9th, 2008 at 7:29 am

  15. Kathleen says:

I will absolutely STOP watching if Pam moves to NY or PA before Jim proposes. But she has had this art dream for some time.

    May 9th, 2008 at 7:39 am

  16. e-dub says:

I am still laughing at all the good stuff mentioned above…

However! -Soon, I’m going to need Pam to haul off and hit Michael in the face.

“I would never say this to her face, but she is a wonderful person and a talented artist.”

    May 9th, 2008 at 7:40 am

  17. Nicole @ Life in Progress says:

Yes, to everything you said. Jim and Pam are the cutest TV couple EVER, EVER, EVER.

    May 9th, 2008 at 7:46 am

  18. Sandy says:

How sad is it that I wanted to call up Pam and be like, “I’m in school right now after quitting my dead-end office job, you can do it too!” I also heart Jenna Fischer because she’s from St. Louis.

    May 9th, 2008 at 7:49 am

  19. Jen says:

Jim did look exceptionally cute on last night’s episode. I think it was the hat. Andy and the golf cart was hilarious! I’m sad that next week is the last episode of the season. Jenna Fisher was on Leno last night and said one of the characters would be leaving the office. I’m thinking Angela since in real life she had a baby.

  20. Megan(FriedOkra) says:

It is all very real though in the moment. I find myself grabbing Al’s arm and holding my breath in Michael’s most insane moments. Like Oh man, he is SO fired this time.

  22. pinkmommy says:

Andy hitting that sand trap about put me over the edge too! But my fave line was when Michael was bashing all the other companies, but then thought twice and said, “The Air Force is cool.” LOL moment for me!

    May 9th, 2008 at 8:19 am

  23. ktbodiford@bellsouth.net says:

I love Jim! What do you think is going to happen in the finale? I’m guessing we’ll have a proposal. But, will Dwight and Pumpkin reunite?

Last night’s episode was a good one!

    May 9th, 2008 at 8:26 am

  24. e-dub says:

    Yes! I forgot about “Pumpkin’s out”! Hahaha…Creed…

    May 9th, 2008 at 8:30 am

  25. Aimee says:

My husband and I nearly wet ourselves when Andy flew into the sand trap.

Fave line? When Michael was talking about getting an untern and he said:

“We need to youth-anize this place.”

    Classic.

    May 9th, 2008 at 8:38 am

  26. Sister Honey Bunch says:

Dude! I felt the same way about Jim. I used to be in B2B sales and I TOTALLY felt what he was going through. I wanted to cheer when he got it.

Then I remembered it was just a TV show.

    May 9th, 2008 at 8:40 am

  27. Rebecca says:

Andy on the golf cart was HILARIOUS! If you haven’t already, check out The Office’s homepage on nbc.com and click on “Creed and Ed sing to Angela and her baby!” I always love it when Andy sings on the show, and now you can watch him sing and play the banjo.

  31. Holly Smith says:

    youthanize this place
    funny, funny-looking
Jim stopping the man, one last time, by blocking his car.
Michael going to talk on the speaker and saying who is H&R Block anyway, what do they do?
    Dartmouth man not paying up.

Did ayone think that at the end, the computer graphic guy with Pam looked like Jim’s real life brother except us??

  33. Tammy M. says:

We loved this episode. I love reading your favorite parts because they remind me of my favorite parts and make me laugh out loud all over again. My whole crew of five laughed out loud when Andy and the golf cart took the short cut!

    May 9th, 2008 at 10:02 am

  34. ChristyB in AL says:

Oh we have become great fans of The Office. My dh gets disgusted with Michael but I think it is because Michael reminds him of real managers he has had.

The Youthanize comment was hilarious. I wanted to punch M. in the nose when he was rejecting the boy who actually stopped at the booth.

And a reminder to those of you who miss watching episodes…you can go online to nbc.com and watch episodes as soon as the next day after it airs.

    I HEART THIS SHOW…

  37. RubiaLala says:

I wanted to hug Jim also!!! I love that they showed him having more guts after he talked to Pam. He loves her so much.

Andy and the golf cart was freaking hilarious. I am still laughing about it.

Love everyone’s comments - ready to watch it again online now!!

Sooooo…Ryan could get canned b/c he’s a coke-head now, leaving a spot open for Jim in NY, and Pam could go to Graphic Design school there!

Whew, I feel better after I have solved the world’s problems - once again! Oh, this isn’t real?

  40. Christine says:

What about when the old guy said I finished my work two months ago!

    May 9th, 2008 at 11:18 am

  41. Jodi says:

I need to start commenting earlier, everybody already said my favorite parts. Of course the ending kiss BEFORE Michael made it all creepy…and Jim telling Pam he really likes her on the phone. Made my little heart go pitter-pat. It’s like Jim is the only one who really understands the true value of Pam as a person and I just lurve him so much for that. Oh, and him with a hat - cute cute cute!

And yes, it is Toby who is leaving. But he’s a writer on the show so I don’t think he’s leaving altogether. Did you know he’s Angela’s brother-in-law in real life? She’s married to his brother.

Oh, and Andy’s blisters about made me gag but the golf cart…muahahahaha! Hilarious!

    May 9th, 2008 at 11:58 am

  42. Natalie Witcher says:

Blisty- laughed out loud and then when he was trying to drink his beer…perfect.

I loved it when Creed said, “I finished my work months ago!”

“I would never say this to her face, but she is a wonderful person and a gifted artist.” Michael.

    Dude, that’s funny

  44. Jodie @ The Sky Is Only Dark Between the Stars says:

I was so pumped I took notes. Laugh if you must. Or you know, envy my brilliance. There is no shame in my game.

Some of my favorites that weren’t already mentioned were:

Michael’s job suggestions for the poor kid he basically told to go away -
    * Migraine Worker
    * Cashier with dignity
    * Classy Janitor

When Jim told Pam (on the phone), “Oh, I like you.”

Michael’s quote: “I would rather live jobless on a beach somewhere living off of a large inheritance than work at any of these jobs.”

PS - I love coming here every Friday to read your “Office” recap. :)

    May 9th, 2008 at 3:42 pm

  45. Andrea says:

I could have decked Michael when he was being so rude and insensitive in front of Pam. But then he redeemed himself by being so proud of Jim.

And I sure hope Pam doesn’t leave, although maybe she AND Jim could go to NY together!

Michael about kids not wanting to be lured: “Thank you, Dateline.”

Dwight: “I will tell on you.”
    Perfect.

I was so bummed something didn’t happen between Dwight and Angela. Maybe next week.

Did anyone notice the framed certificate on the wall behind Michael in his office last night? It is a certificate of authenticity for a watch. He wrote his name in on the blank provided! So funny.

  51. Vicky says:

I feel much better after having watched it online this evening. I love coming back here and reading the comments because it reminds me of all my favorite parts! I am concerned, however, about the final scene with Pam (but maybe they are just trying to get us worried over nothing…)
Someone else mentioned this… on the office website click on the Ed and Creed sing to Angela’s baby. HILARIOUS video! Also, there are quite a few other Angela (the actress) behind-the-scenes videos. I like her so much better now! There are a few from a trip she and Jenna Fischer took to NYC, which are so funny… and a few of various cast members just before she had the baby. Everyone should check it out.
