Some Thoughts On Twitter

by BooMama on 20 May 2008

in Rambling

This has to be quick because I’m about to meet some friends for lunch, but there is one very important-yet-simultaneously-inconsequential thing I want to share with you before I forget:

I still haven’t really gotten the hang of posting on Twitter, but I am increasingly fascinated with reading it. And this is after about a year of being on the Twitter fence.

However, I now consider myself a bit of a fledgling Twitter fan.

Because remember? In junior high? When you’d call a friend and say “what are you doing?” and you felt better just knowing that your friend was, oh, writing Rick Springfield’s name all over her notebooks?

THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT TWITTER REMINDS ME OF.

It’s like having access to a junior high party line, only the people on the party line are, you know, grown, and also, they’re not nearly as catty.

So if you Twitter, why not leave your Twitter link in my comments? Make sure you only leave one link – otherwise the spam filter will think you are trying to sell some sort of medicinal product. But if you leave a link, then people can click on that link and follow you and know when you’re writing Rick Springfield’s name on your notebooks.

Only I know you’re not writing Rick Springfield’s name on your notebooks anymore.

Because, DUH, you’re totally into Zac Efron now.

GAH.

Oh, how I love the Twitter. I was so excited when I discovered you twittered as well. Although my friends and family are starting to wonder why I’m bursting out with loud guffaws whenever I check my text messages.

Oh well, small price to pay.

Did you know that you can get your tweets sent to your phone.

Twitter has made it so my husband and I hardly talk to each other (jk) but for those of us who LOVE reality tv and such it’s a problem.

I love this – it is exactly like calling your friends for no reason. One of my girlfriends and I used to talk about nothing for DAYS…

Love it, though it does slow down laundry productivity.

Well, as usual, I am so TOTALLY out of the loop. The only twittering I’ve done was when my heart went all a-twitter this morning when I took my first bite of Pioneer Woman’s Apricot bars (which were actually rasberry since I didn’t have any apricot preserves in the cupboard). Okay, so I’m clueless. I have no idea what Twitter is. Off to google….

so excited to have more people to follow! I do think it’s fun to follow people who’s lives I find interesting or who’s blogs I read (wink), but I find it a little creepy to see/find out who are following me. Some of them seem a bit like ‘people collectors’ trying to see how many people they can follow.

Ummm, I’d still be writing Rick Springfield’s name all over my notebook.

NOT a Zac Efron fan. He kinda gives me the creeps.

I am gonna have to give in to the Junior High Peer pressure and go do the twitter thing. I’m sort of afraid that if I do that with my blogging, I will never get off the computer :o)

I’m still not totally sure about Twitter. I check it sometimes, when I remember that I have it. And I get all confused about who is doing what. And does anyone really want to know that I’m cleaning poop out of the carseat after a blow up diaper in the Walmart’s parking lot?

Oh, they do? I should write that then.

Oh boomama, I’m still on the twitter fence just as you are on the Facebook fence. How much time does this take? I have deadlines, ya know.

In the spirit of middle school, I’ll agree to twitter if you agree to Facebook. And btw, Facebook will allow you to post your twitter updates in the margin. Because they are twitter-friendly. And everyone who twitters has a Facebook. How’s that for peer pressure?

I’m not sure I’m a big fan of Twitter just yet. Can’t see how it’s adding any value to my already non-productive life. I guess I just like doing what all the cool kids are doing.

And just like junior high in real life, as hard as I try, no one talks back to me.
Those were the worst 2 years of my life.
And I’ve been paralyzed, people, so I’ve had some bad years.

That is all.

I have to tell you- I’ve been using Twitter pretty frequently… updating and following… and yet I had no idea what my “Twitter Link” was.

I’m guessing it’s what’s above as it seems like what everyone else wrote.

How truly highschool was that? “I guess that’s it… everyone else is doing it.”

Nice.

I tweet because it’s a blog post in 160 characters or less. No pressure for a catchy title or pictures :)

I’m brand spanking new at this whole tweeting thingy — less than a day. I know just enough to be dangerous, but I’d love to know you’re into Zac Efron anyway . . . or the last thing you had slathered in butter . . . or fried chicken . . . or whatever : )

Okay, I don’t Twitter, but I was TOTALLY the one who had Rick Springfield’s cut out pictures (from Tiger Beat magazine) hodge podged on my notebook – in HIGH SCHOOL! ‘Cause I was real mature back then. Little did I know that was just a precursor to my Crafty Mommy Madness.

BooMama, This comment has nothing to do with Twitter, but I thought I’d post this comment before your next giveaway! You might be (accidentally!) leaving out two people from your giveaways. When you tell the random counter to choose a number between 1 and 327 (the number of commentors in your last giveaway), you may be omitting the 1st and last entrant. You might need to tell the random counter to pick a number between 0 and 328! But, maybe your random counter is extremely smart (and I’m sure it is!), and it may include those two numbers as well. I know this is sort of (ok, not sort of, but totally) a geeky comment to make, but my college professor of statistics would be so proud! Keep up the bloggerificness!

Ok. This is the 4th post about Twitter in a day and a half (including my own). I had a dream last night that I was on it (I’m not). I’ve tried a few times to explain it to Headless Dad.

GAH! Talk about peer pressure!

Which I’m EMBARRASSED to have as a name, but PENSIEVE was taken, and I was scared to use my gmail (pensieve.love) and “Robin” was taken, too…but it looks like “Pensi Ever Ocks” which just sounds WRONG!

But, because I’m techie impaired…changing it now isn’t even a consideration….

Do ya ever want a mulligan when it comes to blogging et al????
