While I recognize that the title of this post might lead you to believe that the choir pulled some sort of practical joke at church yesterday morning, that is not the case at all, my friends.
Please do allow me to explain, oh thank you.
About three years ago I gave the husband a CD called “Hymned” by Bart Millard, the lead singer of Mercy Me. And we were crazy about the CD the very first time we listened to it. I loved being able to play Bart’s CD-o-hymns in the car with my little fella – who, if memory serves, was around two years old at the time. And even though the words to “Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior” were a little complex for his two year-old vocabulary, Alex did some mean bouncing in his car seat every time he’d hear that melody.
Anyhoo.
When I found out a few months ago that there was going to be a follow-up CD called “Hymned Again,” I was tickled to death. If you’ve read here for any length of time you know that THE MUSIC, I ADORE IT, and the old hymns are especially dear to my heart. Maybe it’s because I learned them when I was a child and the lyrics just get richer with time, or maybe it’s because I love singing the words that believers have been singing for generations, or maybe it’s because there’s so much rock-solid doctrine contained within four verses and a chorus. Regardless, I firmly believe that the old hymns are a treasure we need to intentionally share with our families.
So. If you’d like to win one of ten autographed (FANCY!) copies of “Hymned Again,” leave me a comment and tell me your favorite hymn. If you’re not so familiar with hymns, then just tell me your favorite song (in other words: no church-y background required to win).
And if you’d like a little hint of the musical goodness on this CD, you can watch the clip below.
This giveaway will be open until tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 central time, at which point I’ll close the comments and Mr. Random Integer Generator will select our ten winners.
Have fun, y’all!
This giveaway is now closed.

Seriously? I’m first? Oh yeah, I don’t have a job.
I love the hymn “Before the Throne”. A lot.
Random integer, pick me pick me!
Favorite hymn…that’s a hard one because I love me some music. Maybe one of my favorites is Amazing Grace with the updated My Chains are Gone!!!
How Great Thou Art – always reminds me of my dad. Thanks.
Well, I love Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee it was sung at our wedding. I also have a great fondness for Be Thou My Vision and It is Well with my Soul.
My favorite hymn is Great is Thy Faithfulness. I also love the song by Sara Groves that refers to that hymn; I think it’s He’s always been faithful to me, or something like that. I adore updated hymns.
I like Holy Ground, Blessed Assurance, What a Friend we have in Jesus, It is Well with my Soul, I better stop…thank you for the giveaway!!
Come Thou Fount is my favorite, especially the updated version that Sandra McCracken recorded a couple of years ago. But, the Robbie Seay version of Come Ye Sinners is a close second. I love hymns too!
My favorite right now is actually the one on the video–”My Savior’s Love”…I heard it on KLove radio one day about 3 weeks ago, on my way to the hospital where I was taking care of my dying Grandma. The song reminded me that Jesus does care about our griefs and sorrows–that is what he was thinking about as he died on the cross!
My grandma passed away last week so now this hymn is so near and dear to my heart.
I also love the Old Rugged Cross, In the Garden, and Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing (although I giggle everytime we sing about “Mine Ebenezer”. What is that anyway????)
Holy Ground is one of my favs!
I’m an Amazing Grace girl. Although running a very close second is How Great Thou Art since it reminds me of my Nanny (along with her fingernails clicking on the piano keys!)
I really like Be Thou My Vision, and All Creatures of Our God and King. My husband and I love the praise music of ‘today’, but we’re worried our daughter will miss out on the great hymns of ‘yesterday’. This CD would be a step in the right direction!
My favorite hymns are “At Calvary” and “Old Rugged Cross.”
I LOVE these. Because as I read the comments I say, “LOVE that one. That one too. And that one.” Amazing Grace, Great is Thy Faithfulness, Blessed Assurance, Come Thou Fount, It is Well with My Soul, and even — I know — I Come to the Garden Alone. Can’t help but love these. I’ll probably think of 10 more during the day now.
Oooh, that’s a hard one! Great is the Faithfulness and How Great Thou Art if I have to choose!
Mercy Me + Hymns = Perfection.
My favorite Hymn is Rejoice the LORD is King. (And Holy Holy Holy)
Kelly S. Michigan
I love so many hymns…My favorite Christmas one, by far, is O Holy Night. other than that Amazing Grace is so profound, yet so simple. I love hearing my 4 yr old sing it…Chills…
I love Oh God our help in ages past and What a friend we have in Jesus and Abide with me. I love a lot of hymns. It was so hard to choose.
How Firm a Foundation
That hymn has gone with me through some hard times.
“Because He Lives,” although I almost never get to actually sing it because I’m sobbing my heart out.
I would love to win this to share with my family. My favorite hymn is Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee.
“Man of Sorrows”. Love that one!!
“Guide me oh thou great Redeemer” and “Immortal, invisible” are my favourite hymns!
“Amazing Grace” is still my fav!!
How true it is…nothing but grace that is so undeserved, yet given…AMAZING!
I have many favorite hymns, but one that sticks out right now is “Trust and Obey.”
It is well with my soul!
In The Garden. Hands down that is my favorite hymn ever. I love the visual of walking through a garden early in the morning with my Lord. Another fave is We Shall See the King thanks to many a Sunday night camp meeting service. That one got the place a rockin’!
Oh I know it’s old school, but I love me some “Victory in Jesus.”
I love “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.” The music is a little monotone, but the lyrics are amazing.
Come Thou Fount (if I had to choose just one:)
Be Thou My Vision
It is Well With my Soul
Come Thou Long Expected Jesus
But that’s just a sampling of the ones I sing to my boys on a daily basis. (They would thank-you from the bottom of their hearts to listen to someone else’s singing.)
Great is Thy Faithfulness…”There is no shadow of turning with thee, Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not, As Though has been, Thou forever wilt be.”
I love Great is Thy Faithfulness and Softly & Tenderly.
Oh my goodness, I have so many favorites. I guess I’d have to say “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”.
Too many to mention, so I guess I’ll have to pick the first one that comes to mind:
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms
Favorite hymns…
~A Mighty Fortress
~Praise to the Lord
~Beautiful Savior
~Be Thou My Vision
Thanks!
How Great Thou Art, but it’s hard to pick. Wish we sang more hymns these days…
I was raised in a small country church and only sang hymns until the last few years! I love “Dwelling in Beulah Land” for my grandmother (Beulah) who took me to church every Sunday (thank you!). I also love Amazing Grace with the adaptation of My Chains are Gone. My daughter signed this at my father’s funeral in March. His chains are gone and he’s been set free!
In Christ Alone and Joyful, Joyful I Adore Thee. I couldn’t choose just one!
Wow – the old hymns… one of my favorite is “He Leadeth Me” (oh blessed thought!). When I was 10 yrs old, our children’s choir had a contest to see who could learn the most hymns right out of the hymnal…gave me a love for the hymns that I still have today.
Um – there are two things I LOVE – Bart Millard and HYMNS!!!! I am a HUGE fan of hymns. I love current worship songs but a good hymn just rocks me! Why have I never heard of this CD – I am on my way to buy the first one this week!
Probably two of my very favorite are ” Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus” (can’t sing without crying) and “Come thou fount of every blessing”.
Amazing Grace will always and forever be my favorite, every time I sing it or hear it I get weepy…I just love it.

It Is Well and Holy Holy Holy… they get me every time!
I realized at a recent funeral (of all places…) that I love the hymn “Bourning Cry” and my new fav on the radio is “Mighty to Save”.
I’m not sure it’s my favorite, but the first one that popped into my head is Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing – and now I’ll be singing it all afternoon!
If forced to choose only one hymn, it would be “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.” I would beg for two more though – “A Mighty Fortress” and “Be Thou My Vision.”
I adore the first one. I didn’t know there was a 2nd one coming out. I will cross my fingers on this one. :)
Hymns…good for your bones. Well, I’m actually not sure of that, but I know that I probably consumed more hymns as a young girl than milk. My father was the minister of music, and hymns were a family staple. :)
My favorite? How Great Thou Art
Hands Down. Those words and that melody have been the background to so many key points in my life that it will forever speak to me in new and changing ways.
“And when I think that God, his Son not sparing, sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in. That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin.
Then sings my soul, my Savior, God to Thee: How great Thou art! How great Thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior, God to Thee: How great Thou art! How. Great. Thou. Art!!” Amen.
Hello there,
My fav hymn would have to be Be Thou My Vision and perhaps Heavenly Sunshine.
Thanks for letting me play along! :)
Angie
I can’t really pick a favorite, but some of the first that come to mind are “It is Well,” “In Christ Alone,” “Amazing Grace,” and “Power in the Blood.” I have a hard time finding hymn recordings that I like, but the video sounded great!
thanks!
Like many here, I couldn’t POSSIBLY choose just one! I absolutely ADORE the old hymns. 4Him put out a hymn CD a few years ago called “Hymns: A Place of Worship” that rocks my world E.V.E.R.Y. time I hear it. Whole album on my iPod for sure!
I love: A Mighty Fortress is Our God; It Is Well With My Soul; Holy, Holy, Holy; Solid Rock; Be Thou My Vision; All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name; Leaning On the Everlasting Arms; Crown Him With Many Crowns; and Fairest Lord Jesus.
Oh, wait… did you say ONE favorite? ;)
