Imagine This Title Is Alliterative And Clever

1) Last night a friend and I went to see Third Day, Switchfoot, Jars of Clay and Robert Randolph & The Family Band. If you’ve never listened to Robert Randolph & The Family Band, you need to know that they are a TREASURE. I linked to one of their videos a long time ago on my Daily Links page, but in case you missed that, I’m going to post a video again.

They make me HAPPY. And they are PHENOMENAL live.

Last night’s concert was one of those rare shows where I was excited to hear every single band. Yay, music.

And I have some concert-related tales in the works.

Also! Video!

2) Less than one week until “The Office.” I just needed to document that for my own personal enjoyment.

3)

beforeafter

Before & After is a week from today. Which means I better get hoppin’.

4) We don’t buy a lot of toys at our house, but given the level of Star Wars interest in our home, we finally bought Alex a “real” Anakin Skywalker light saber because, quite frankly, I was tired of finding my vacuum cleaner attachments (aka pretend light sabers) all over the house.

You would’ve thought we’d given that child gold. Only he doesn’t really know what gold is. So I guess there’s probably a better analogy to express his delight, but I’ll be dadgummed if I can think of it right now.

Anyway, a few days ago we stopped at the mailbox before we pulled into our driveway, and the mailman was at the house across the street. So Alex rolled down his window, screamed, “THANK YOU FOR THE MAIL,” rolled up his window, thought for a few seconds, rolled down the window again, and screamed, “I GOT A FAYN-CEE NEW LIGHT SABER!”

You’ve never seen a more puzzled postman in your life.

And I may need to temper my use of the word “fancy.”

5) This has been a crazy week, as evidenced by the decided lack of posting here. I’ll try to do better. Perhaps my lifelong tendency to fly by the seat of my pants is no longer a viable time-management solution.

Have a great weekend, y’all!

  1. I can’t believe I’m the first to comment! I have “The Office” marked on my calendar and WILL be taking the phone of the hook when the new season starts next Thrusday.

  2. It’s so fun to buy kids toys new toys when it’s the first ones they’ve gotten in a while, and when it’s a total surprise!! You definitely get an extra serving of love from them. . .err, unconditional love, of course. :)

  3. I love Robert Randolph- Ain’t Nothin’ Wrong with That and Deliver Me are two of my favorites of his.

And I am on pins and needles, pins and needles! Waiting for The Office to come back. Every time I see a commercial for the new season I get all tingly. Bring on the Jam! And how cute is the Holly from HR?

  4. You were 2 MINUTES from my HOUSE! You should have said something and I would have come over to meet you!

  5. I love that you used “dadgummed” in a blog post. As a fellow Southern gal (notice the capitalization), I appreciate the use of such words. Somehow, though, I think “dagummed” has yet to actually make it into one of my own blog posts. I may have to remedy that. :-)

  6. I have to comment on 4). My brother always loved Star Wars. There are about 15 plastic tubs full of stuff at my parents house. When my 28-year old brother got his iPhone, it was only because there is an application that can turn your iphone into a light saber. He and Alex would have had a blast. And no, I don’t think he’ll ever outgrow his love of lightsabers.

and p.s. I can’t wait for The Office either! YAY!!!

  7. Just glad your back! And glad that Alex got a fayn-cee new toy! And glad that new episodes of “The Office” are about to start! (although I’ve been getting great joy from the reruns!)

  8. Thanks for posting that video! I’m always looking for upbeat music for my iPod at the gym, that song is great!

  9. Glad to know my boys aren’t the only ones playing with the vacuum attachments. Only at my house they are bazookas. Have a great weekend, Boomama!

  10. Hi BooMama

I bestowed on your the Brilliant Weblog Award. Read your email or see my blog. – Bev

  11. Obviously, that postman has no kids. Otherwise, he would not be surprised by your son’s statement. :)

  12. I can’t believe it! Robert Randolph played at Clapton’s Blues festival. Sorry I didn’t recognize the name at first. He is VERY talented!

  13. Also, I feel like I should mention that my husband is a crazy Star Wars fan. He has over a thousand action figures. BUT he’s selling some on eBay. They’re in excellent/never-been-played-with condition and cheap! Take a look!

  14. DAG!GUM! that was a suweet concert! What a line up!! So much so I must OVER!USE! CAPTITALIZATION! and exclamation points to annoyance!!!

I had never heard of RR&TFB, but that video? The music? made me happy, too! Thanks for the introduction…and the smiles :).

  15. Thanks for a new band — I’ll have to track down a cd or two.

Office. Can’t. Wait. I watched last year’s season finale to prepare. Andy Bernard ruined my summer.

  16. My husband and I are going to go to the Third Day show in Dallas. Can’t wait!

  17. Should I warn you that your Hubby will start to want one too? All my guys have one. Say goodbye to your lamps.

  18. My boys used to do the same thing with the vacuum cleaner attatchments, then I bought them each a light saber and they got hit a little too hard one too many times. Now they use sticks or the pieces from the marshmallow gun or whatever they can make.

  19. Oh I miss living in the ‘Ham they have such great concert – sigh
The light sabers made an appearance in our house a few years ago and they “accidentally” fell in the trash a few months ago – OOPS
We so miss those loud obnoxious toys – NOT!
    LOL
But hey swords and guns are a boys delight for sure
    Have a great weekend
    Kim

  20. Thank you for posting that video! I’d never heard of them and now I’ve played the video at least a dozen times already. Their music makes me happy too. :)

I would have loved to have been at that concert – what a lineup! I already checked their future tour schedule and sadly, none are close to me.

  21. So I am counting (almost) the seconds until the OFFICE! I am not a TV watcher so I was reluctant when Shawn begged me to watch it and now I can’t believe I wasn’t in on it the whole time!

  22. Another reason it would behoove us to be best friends – I love Robert Randolph & The Family Band! I am now inspired to bring them back in my musical rotation. Have a great weekend!

  23. I went to the concert last night too and my-oh-my it was incredible. I was equally happy to hear each group perform (although we arrived a bit too late for hear Jars of Clay). RR & the family band is great and I look forward to downloading some of their music. I love me some Third Day and of course Switchfoot was great.

  24. If you’re really nice to me, I might be able to tell you some “office” secrets (my little sis works as a personal assistant for one of the actresses)! Then again, she is sworn to secrecy and knows that I am no good at secrets so maybe not. It will make you happy to know that they are all as wonderful in person as they are on the show!

  25. The concert sounds so awesome. But, oh how I hate weeks that seem to fly by without getting everything done that I’d planned. Have a great weekend!!! Try to get some down time…. :)

  26. I’ve been “lurking” for awhile now, and enjoying your blog. My hubby and I got completely hooked on The Office this summer via Netflix. Now we’re counting the days, too, until the season premiere!

  27. Perhaps Alex’s excitement could be likened to you receiving cheese and fried chicken while talking to Beth Moore and listening to your latest music of choice? In other words… REALLY REALLY REALLY good. Yes, vacuum cleaner attachments also make good car tunnels and brother whappers.
    Blessings, Kim (long time lurker)

  28. Speaking of Star Wars…My 1st grade son’s name is Luke. We went to his open house last night at school and found out that he has a girl in his class named Lea! What are the odds of that?

  29. I am absolutely loving that use of “FAYN-cee.” Because I can just hear that little boy Southern accent over and over in my head. There is nothing, nothing so adorable as the accent of a little person born and bred in the deep South. I LOVE it.

  30. I went to see the same concert in VA BCH a week or so ago. Truthfully, I had never heard of the Robert Randolph and family band. Although, i could see their obvious talent, they did nothing for me. There was no mention of Christ, barely any singing at ALL even. The music kicked, but it just wasn’t at all edifying, if that makes sense. I enjoyed them the least of the 4 bands…. but Third Day? THEY WERE ROCKING THE HOUSE. I am a HUGE fan. And Switchfoot kicked it too. I loved the entire show actually.. i was just really confused about RR.

  31. Thanks for the Family Band video. I know I’ve heard that song before, but where?? Anyway, liked them!

And, don’t forget 8 days until Amazing Race begins!

  32. OOOh, my friend was there on Thursday, too. She said it was most excellent. Totally worth arriving home at 2:30 a.m.

  33. Oh Boomama…i thank you for you introduction to the RR and Family Band a few months ago…I was beyond excited to see them in Atlanta tonight and they were even better in concert…I LOVED them! Of course the other three bands were amazing (I love me some Third Day) but the highlight was the RR band :o)

    So thanks :o)

  34. I LOVE concerts and that sounds like a great one!

I haven’t been to a concert of any kind since my first was born in ’05. Sigh.

  35. Equally pumped about The Office! I’ve been a visitor (let’s refrain from the word ‘stalker’ shall we?) of your blog for a while now and decided to leave a comment and say Hello! Love your blog, hope to hear from ya!

  36. Well Fancy that, my 6 yr old luvs his Star wars, anything too. Thank to McD’s we’re set .

  37. Erica (A Yankee In Jawja) says:

Arggggh! I’m in the middle of painting the master bathroom and I’m getting this small flakey/ish stuff going on?! It’s driving me nuts. The hubs says I’m not painting fast enough, but I swear I am.

Has anything like this happened to you? I’m loosing my mind. Now I get to sand between paint coats. Fabulous.

  38. We are eating, sleeping and breathing Star Wars in our house. By we I mean my husband and son.

Little Kid wants to be General Grevious for Halloween (wish me luck on finding THAT costume!) and I just bought Big Kid the new game for the Wii.

I have resorted to borrowing my friends’ daughters to be around pink, purple and sparkles if only briefly.

  39. But wait — I do so adore your bedroom the way it is now… with the beautiful fabric and all — why change it??????

  40. LOL! You cracked me up! :) Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to use titles like this one all the time? Screw having to come up with something brilliant. I prefer “Insert Brilliant Post Title Here”.
