I read every single link. They were all excellent and very thought provoking. They have really helped me get out of my post election funk.

Funny – I have always secretly liked Leonard Pitts,too! I very often disagree with him, but I do like his writing style and he always makes me think.

Listen, I hate to get into this, but I had to respond because you are totally misquoting Obama’s The Audacity of Hope. Please see pg 261 for the correct text:

In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.

Wow…Shaunda, I urge you to remember that kindness is also one of the fruit of the spirit…even if you think someone is wrong, attacking them is never an acceptable tactic as a believer. I have certainly written comments (and posts!) that I had to go back and edit, so there’s tons of grace for having a heated moment online. I can imagine Sophie feels the same way. But I urge you, please, as a sister in Christ to disagree with as much grace as possible and if you can’t, then to wait until you’ve cooled off before publishing a comment. Calling into question someone’s Christianity because they posted a couple of links you think are wrong is pretty harsh. The words of Jesus haunt me often, “BY THIS SHALL ALL MEN KNOW YOU ARE MY DISCIPLES, IF YOU HAVE LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER” ( John 13:35) John 15:12 is a good reminder too and a tall order, “This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you.”
