Ladies And Gentlemen: Trent Monk

in Rambling

Trent Monk came back through town about three weeks ago, and we had a little living room concert at our house. Trent was on his way to much bigger and much better gigs (Yes. I just said “gigs.” I totally did. Next thing you know I’m going to be talking about people’s “merch” tables.) in Georgia, and it says a lot about the kind of person that he is that he would be utterly delighted to sit in the corner of our living room and play for about 25 people (most of whom were sweet bloggy friends) on a Tuesday night. We had the best time.

By the way, if this video is any indication, I may want to turn on a few more lamps if we host any other musical guests in the future. So I apologize that the video is a little dark, but oh, it was ever-so-warm-and-cozy in person.

The Twenty-First Time

Did you hear the young’uns in the background? You can’t get that kind of ambience at your fancy clubs, people. But Trent was totally cool with people bringing their kids, and I think it takes a special kind of performer to happily sing deep songs about love and Jesus while there are kids watching “Star Wars” and playing with light sabers right down the hall. And it made me so happy. Seriously.

Trent is such a delightful, talented guy. In fact, I asked him if he’d be interested in just living at our house and singing in the living room from 6:30-8:00 every single night, but surprisingly he was not at all even a little bit interested. But he did laugh loudly when I asked him, and I was ever-so-appreciative of the courtesy guffaw.

Right now Trent’s setting up his schedule for 2009, and if you’d be interested in having him into your house or church or club (after all, I know many of you are full-time club owners) for a show, email me so I can send you contact info.

And, as always, rock on.

Because you know that you want to, people.

You know that you do.

I really enjoyed myself and I’m appreciative of you opening up your abode for us bloggy peeps!

When Kristen & I were talking about Trent a few days ago – here are some things she shared with me that I am now sharing with you and your internets!

Her favorite song was 21st Time and the song about the deploying Dad choked us both up. She hadn’t noticed Trent’s ummm pit problem until he said something about it and raised his arms and then she couldn’t stop laughing about it. She’s still telling her friends the “pit” story! She enjoys listening to the CD we purchased. We were both a little scared of your driveway…

I’m so glad she decided to come with me (I bribed her with food). Originally, my oldest was going to come, but work got in the way (Can you believe I’m old enough to have kid that drives??? I know I don’t look a minute over 25!)

Thank you again, Sophie! I hope we can get together in the future, since we’re neighbors and all~

I’m a constant reader of yours in bloggy land, but have never commented. I’ve been hearing this song on the radio, though, and just had to comment on how much I love it! I live in Arkansas, so we’re lovin’ us some Trent Mock here, too!

Do you think he would come perform for our kids? My husband and I run an after school and summer program that ministers to At-Risk kids. We have about 40 in the program. Does he charge? We can’t really pay him, but could feed him good.

Also, I so appreciate your use of the word “guffaw”.

i, too, was pleased at your use of “guffaw”! that’s one of those words that’s just under-used.

I can vouch for the Awesomeness of Trent!

We had such a great time that night listening to his beautiful voice. What a down-to-earth guy.

Hopefully people will have him into their living rooms before he gets waaaaaaay too big for that (which will totally happen, says I). :)

Oh, if only my sister, whilst holding my camera on the other side of the room, could have figured out how to turn on the VIDEO! Thanks for posting yours. Trent is STUPID-GREAT!

I am very interested in this, although I e-mailed him last time he came to your house and heard no response. Please send me the contact info if you don’t mind and I’ll try again. Thanks!

My husband, who is not a believer, loves this CD. THAT’s ministry.

Thanks for sharing, Sophie.

I “discovered” Monk & Neagle from a cd in a freebie kit from Relevant(I work for a genX pastor and we get to preview music and books). I’ve told everyone I know about them (are they still together?) I don’t know why they haven’t received more airplay–maybe it’s just the region of the country I live in. Hallelujah Jesus is a great worship song but I love Beautiful You too…I could go on

I would be very afraid that if Trent Monk were singing in my living room that I would inadvertently break into harmony and sing right along with him just like I do in my car…just like I did while watching this video!! I’m very impressed that I didn’t hear anyone singing along with him! Maybe you guys were just singing really softly. Thanks for the video and for introducing me to Monk and Neagle in the first place. You’re awesome!
