Linky Interwebby Awesomeness 02.19.09

(I think this is the first time I’ve posted links all week long.)

(I’m terribly consistent.)

– I read this article about blogging in Newsweek last weekend. And when I finished reading, I thought to myself, “Yep. That’s pretty much dead on.” You’ve got to love this bloggy bidness because you love it – not because of what you think you might get out of it one day.

– The Nester has a cool carnival going on called 10 Minutes To A Room You’ll Love. So many great ideas.

– I saw a link to this interactive map of the U.S. over at Shannon’s blog, and I was all, OH, I’LL DO AWESOME AT THAT!

And, well, notsomuch. But it was mighty big fun just the same.

  1. Love the interactive map of the US. I thought I would do well also…notsomuch for me either.

  2. I look forward to your linky interwebby awesomeness with giddy anticipation… I just love ya Boomama!

  3. I love that map thing, and I’ve done it over and over. I do OK as long as I get something on a border or the coast to give me a frame of reference for the middle states. But when I get Colorado or something first, I’m in trouble.

  4. oh, that map thing is so cool! I got 92%, but I think it was because I got lucky in the order of the states. If I had gotten a bunch of middle ones first I wouldn’t have done nearly so well.

  5. Oh girl, I didn’t know you cared so much. Thanks for the shout out and I cannot wait to meet you at she speaks. I’m pretty sure that’s the reason I agreed to speaking.

    not really.

    sort of.

  6. Can I just give a shout out to an awesome God for this map thingy? I’ve been praying for Him to help me out here. Because my boy is in third grade, and they are just now learning the states, and oh my gosh, is this better than the placemat I got in the Target dollar bin or what? Thank you, thank you, thank you! (unlike Pathwords, this is NOT a sarcastic entry). :<)

  7. You know, about every month or two I get a comment on my blog and I’m all like, I HAD NO IDEA LIFE COULD BE THIS GOOD.

My WFMW last week was all about geography helps. The online games are great. I listed about five different ones on my site if anyone wants to pop over there and check them out.

But whatever you do, DON’T LEAVE A COMMENT. I’m not due for any love this month.

  8. I got a 90%…and I was pretty pleased with that!

  9. Darn you, Rhode Island.

  10. Those dern middle states! Thanks for sharing another computer addiction BooMama:)
First there is this whole bloggy thingy, then Pathwords (1200 personal best) and now this! It’s a wonder I get any work done:)
I did get a 96% on the map though – woot woot!

  11. When we were homeschooling our kids second grade, part of what we did was to make flash cards so they could learn where the states were , the names and the capitals. Because of this-I learned right along with them.

The flaw in the map game is that some of the big land mass areas are hard to place a state exactly right if there are no other boundaries around. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it ;)

  12. ok, sista….waiting for the Round 2 Idol posting. My peeps need their summaries at the school house. Farewell, Tatiana. We knew you well. With apologies….

  13. That’s impossible!!! Argh!

  14. I read the same article a day or two ago and thought it was dead on. Blogging is about community and so few actually strike it rich or become famous or go on television shows or publish books based on their website, etc. I hope I never allow myself to get so swept up in some fantasy that I forget why I started blogging in the first place!

  15. 92%! Average error: 14 miles! 46 perfect on the first shot! Stupid New England.

  16. Thanks for the Newsweek article. Sometimes I feel like odd-girl-out because all the talk of branding and marketing and SEO and blah blah blah just makes me tired and sucks all the joy out of blogging for me.

  17. Me, make $1,037 this month with my blog?!?!? I “brush my shoulders off” when I get 5 people to visit and two make a comment:-)

uh, okay, the map…my mouse was bigger than Rhode Island. I couldn’t see where I was putting it:) ha.

  18. I got a 94% the first time because a few of them weren’t QUITE to their lining-up standards. BUT since I am a military brat, and have LIVED all over the US, I SHOULD be able to do it, don’t you think? :)

  19. I agree that you have to just love blogging for the community part. That’s the blessing to me. Anything else that comes out of it… that’s just double blessing!

Make money? Geez, I’m just thrilled to have people visit and leave a comment.

  20. Mmmm, just read the Newsweek article, and, yep… needed that. The thing is, I doubt there’s much room left for another Heather Armstrong or Ree Drummond and the rest of us need to remember the reason we originally decided to keep at this–the community. But I’m about to start blabbing, so I’m stopping now. :)
