Not Your Typical Alabama Day

in Family Fun

When we moved here from Louisiana, I was thrilled to death by the prospect of seeing snow every once in awhile.

I may have been a little unrealistic in my snow-related expectations, because in nine years, it has snowed four whole times, I think. The first year we lived here we had a beautiful winter wonderland-type snow. When the little guy was two we got some flurries. Last year it snowed just enough to cover the ground for fifteen minutes while we took pictures. And yesterday, much to our surprise, it snowed all morning long.

Now granted, it had melted by two yesterday afternoon, but still. SNOW!

We had a blast.

I also washed about seven loads of clothes yesterday. And while I folded them I watched a marathon of that “Clean House” show and MY WORD I could not turn away.

This really has absolutely nothing to do with snow, but I felt compelled to share.

Have a great Monday, everybody!

The snow looks so beautiful! Looks like every state around us got snow. I’m just a little bit jealous!

Yea for snow! We had the same here in Tennessee yesterday! Our 4 year old had a blast! As much I love looking out at the snow covered winter wonderland, I am SO ready for sunny skies and warm weather!

Glad someone in AL got some! We didn’t in our neck of the woods, much to the chagrin of my 5 year old daughter. We feel a bit cheated!

I live in East Tennessee and we got nothing. I’m glad you did!

And don’t you just LOVE Mrs. Neicy? :) I do!

You want snow?? Come visit me sometime (I’m near Chicago). I think we had a near-record snowfall this season. It has been CRAZY! And just when we thought it was over, we woke up to more snow this morning. Ugh. We are all so sick of it, you can’t even believe it. Snow does a terrible number on the roads–leaving behind potholes as big as your car. It also wrecks your wood floors and your car mats and everything else.

I would LOVE to live where you live and get away from it all.

But I’m not complaining or anything.

Yay for you guys. We’ve missed so much school because of snow this year….I’m sorta glad it got you and not us. :)

About that show!?! Hmmm I find it causes me much tension to watch…..I start thinking about the storage room and garage area of my house. I would die of embarrassment if these people showed up to perform an intervention on me. Eeeek!

Let’s just say….we are accumalater’s (sp)!

I’m in Ohio. We’re over snow at this point. Oh heavens, give me sunshine and warmth, please.

And yes, a laundry accomplishment regardless of whether it is within topic or not is worth the mention! Congratulations on tackling Mt St Laundry!

We actually had snow in SE TX back in November. It was wonderful. My boys played in it all morning. The youngest even sat down in it, he didn’t care that it was cold.

Shelly W. has it right. We here in Chicagoland are just beggin’ for spring to get here quickly. Once March 1st comes along, snow is no longer our friend. I wish I could send more of ours your way!

Alabama snow is def a rare spectacle! We had fun yesterday playing in it, and the best part was that it as gone by late yesterday afternoon & we didn’t have any travel troubles or power outages! :) I bet there was no milk or bread anywhere to be found on a grocery store shelf in Alabama! :)

So happy for your snow, but even happier that tonight is the finale and if I could wiggle my nose like Samantha in Bewitched and sit in your living room eating queso and watching Jason pick the ring and cry it would be so worth it….thanks for making the show even better….ABC needs to know about you.

I move away from the South to NM where they say it snows. Today it is nearly 80 degrees and my in-laws are having snow today in SC.

Sigh.

Mel March 2, 2009 at 8:56 am

I live in the midwest and we haven’t had much snow this year. Your pictures look really nice.

When I think of snow in the south, I think of To Kill a Mocking Bird when Scout wakes up and freaks when she sees the snow.

We got about 10 inches here in Fayette County outside Memphis. On Friday we were out in shirt sleeves and on Saturday we got SNOW. Seriously. Snow. A veritable BLIZZARD. Blessings.

I must have missed something. What’s the “Clean Show”? I’ve got to start watching that!
Take care,

BTW The snow looked beautiful!

I’m glad you got to experience snow, too! We had a great covering here in East Tennessee several weeks ago, and the kids were beside themselves.

And yes, there was laundry. Since we don’t own snowsuits, we had to layer the kids with every clothing item we own! :)

i thought we were actually going to have a big snow for a change. We went in to church with bare ground, and came out an hour later with at least a half-inch. It was a winter wonderland!

Then we drove home, and we barely had a flake, and wound up with only a dusting.

Is it too much to ask that we actually get enough snow for my kids to build a snowman ONCE in their lives? :-)

We were watching the news last night, and they showed pictures of your fine town coated with snow. I thought of you. :)

We’ve got a saying in SC, “Never trust the weatherman. If it’s predicted, it ain’t happenin’.” He’ll lead you wrong everytime. Our local meteorologist was apologizing for the bad forecast this morning. My little man is so sad there is NO snow on the ground after they called for 3 to 6 inches.

I know you enjoyed the white stuff with your little man. Our big snows usually happen in March…we were so close!!

Becky March 2, 2009 at 9:18 am

We had fun in the Alabama snow yesterday too! You know you are in Alabama when one day you are wearing shorts and t-shirts and it is 70 degrees and the next, you wake up to everything covered in a blanket of white! Happy Monday!

Don’t you just LOVE it???
Moving from South Georgia to Boston changed my world… And I LOVE snow. I will miss it when we (hopefully) move away from New England next year.

Those pictures are lovely. I have such a hard time picturing a winter without snow. I’m a little weary of it come March, but I will confess — in January, it feels right for the world to be blanketed in white. It’s sets a rhythm to our lives.

Wasn’t it pretty?! I didn’t get out & play in it, but the neighbor kids sure did. Snowmen everywhere! It lasted longer up here on our mountain than it did down below. We went to church last night & almost all of it was gone down there. We still have it up here in lots of spots. It was a fun snow day, I stayed in my PJ’s all day.

Yea for BEAUTIFUL snow! Double Yea for snow that’s GONE in a day! I love snow, don’t get me wrong, but when it’s been around for a week and a half and gone BLACK, it’s WRONG!! :)
I, too, have a “Clean House” addiction! I could watch that show for hour upon hour. Meanwhile, MY house starts resembling some on the show. ;) That Niecey Nash is something’ else, isn’t she??

Kim March 2, 2009 at 9:59 am

Look how cute Alex is!
And the snow is beautiful!!
We got close to 6 inches – it was a BLAST!
And we still have all of ours but I bet it will be gone by tomorrow :(

Your snow is so pretty! And, wintery — looks great in a picture and I’m sure it’s very exciting to you all (you all– you can tell I’m from the north:) We are buried in it for most of the winter so it’s not quite as exciting.

My husband is driving through your beautiful state today on his way to the Gulf. I was there last month (to get away from being buried in snow) and was so impressed with the southern hospitality.

Take Care,

Trixie

I just had to share with you that I am a huge Niecy Nash fan on Clean House. She SO cracks me up with her exclamations and eye rolling. Plus, I always feel fabulous about my house when I see how some of those folks are living (if you can call it that).

Welcome to my Thursday evening! Seven inches of snow in MN. While we’re prepared to handle that, my housing association had yet to clear the driveway and I got stuck. In my driveway. Good times!

But, needless to say, the first snow each year I feel exactly like you did.

Except now I’m ready for spring! : )

We still have snow on the ground and we’re just a bit north of you. Love the cute snow picture. I caught my baby girl building a snowman — so adorable, even at 16 years old.

Sandy March 2, 2009 at 12:16 pm

I hope Miss Niecy was on your episodes of Clean House. Since switching to satellite I don’t have Style, and I heard she’s been replaced. No one can replace her talking about foolishness and singing “Who wants a Cleeean House?”

So glad you got to enjoy the snow. We have has plenty here in Indiana this year!
My cousin from Tuscaloosa sent me a text yesterday with a picture of his snow- covered yard. Usually it’s the other way around.
Anyway, I love the picture of Alex in the snow. I think the black and gray go so well with the snowy background.

Must say, here in OH, it’s nice to NOT have snow today! We got our share in Jan/Feb, thank you very much. Glad you got to have some snowy fun!

Girl, we had 13 inches in Jackson TN and you should see us rednecks try to do the snow thing. We don’t have the “gear” for that kind of snow. I love the trashbags over the socks personally. Fancy.

I can never turn away from those shows. Clean House, or the hoarders on Oprah. It makes me feel like maybe my house isn’t nearly as bad as I think. I feel so sorry for people who live like that!

Pam March 2, 2009 at 4:18 pm

We finally got snow here, too! Hurray… we played and played until it was .. gone. So fast.. it was truly a “live in the moment” experience! I put pics on my blog, but our snow wasn’t as pretty as yours.. but hey. I’m not complaining! And seven loads? I think my hot water heater would have exploded (not to mention my head…).
Happy Monday!

OHH if you ever need snow – just come visit in MN – we can almost guarantee some record snow falls come march – sometimes even into april – the magic of it all is definitely gone.

Dana March 2, 2009 at 4:49 pm

Gorgeous… I didn’t know you lived in Alabama.. I haven’t been reading your blog too long (that may be why). We live in Birmingham area – Fultondale to be exact. The snow was amazing and of course gone by the afternoon – our headless snowman is still standing though – he looks sort of odd standing out there in the green and brown grass.

Love reading your blog.. Found it from Angie @ Bring the Rain.

Jason is a dog. A dirty low down dog.
And I just had to go somewhere, tell somebody, someone else who watches this ridiculous show like I do, what I’m thinking right now.

Not sure how he can redeem himself in my eyes.

Bachelor/Bachelorette… our relationship with each other may be over as well.
And I don’t even have a ring to hock.
