Madness

A couple of you left comments on my last post asking if I was going to set up a group for March Madness picks on ESPN’s Tournament Challenge. And honestly, I wasn’t planning on it, but the more I thought about it, the more I decided that it would be quite the kick in the pants for the teens of us who might be interested in such a thing.

So I set up a group. And since I’m the only member of the group right now, I would obviously love for you to join me.

Here’s how it works. Go to ESPN’s Tournament Challenge. If you don’t have an ESPN account, you’ll have to create one (seconds! it takes mere seconds!). Once you’re logged in, you can search for groups, and my group is called – GET READY – BooMama.

Obviously I’ve scored major points on the originality front.

Once you’ve joined the group and made your bracket picks, you need to make sure that you print out your bracket so that you can put it on your refrigerator and astound and amaze the people in your life with your basketball savvy. Be sure to throw around terms like “RPI” and “strength of schedule” and “body of work,” and the next thing you know your family members will be calling ESPN so that you can be a special commentator on the SportsCenter.

But here’s the best part.

When it’s all said and done, I’ll send a special prize (read: some CDs and such) to the person in our group who does the best with her (or his – the menfolk are welcome, too) bracket. In the event of a tie, well, I have no idea what I’ll do. But I’ll figure it out in due time and it’ll all be big fun, now won’t it?

If you have any questions, just let me know in the comments. And if you’re ready to get started with your bracket, then head on over to ESPN.

p.s. If you join the group, you’ll be able to look at my bracket.

p.p.s. After you look at my bracket, please don’t make fun of me.

p.p.p.s. Because sometimes, if I don’t know much about the teams in a certain game, I go with the mascot that I think is cuter.

p.p.p.p.s. Really. Please don’t make fun of me.

  1. Oh I love me some march madness but not so much when my hogs aren’t in it. I’ll be cheering for miss st. I had decided not to do a bracket for the first time ever…..but you just reeled me back in!!!!

  2. Although our dawgs aren’t shining in the madness, our mascot, Uga VII, is definitely winning in the cuteness category…

  3. oh, I am so, so excited. I am in. GAME ON!!

  4. Every member in this dang household has an account with ESPN and I’ll go ahead and get with my 12 yr old and get him to fill out the bracket for your group!!!!

We are all in on the madness my friend. Go Tigers Go!

  5. I’m in. Can’t resist you.

I used to be the hugest sports nut. It was obnoxious really. All the girls thought I was ridiculous. I’m not sure what happened. I haven’t watched a college basketball game ALL YEAR.

    I’ll probably win.

  6. I thought of you last night as I was watching Sportscenter and I saw that MSU had won the SEC. I knew right then that the next post I would read from you would be nothing but all basketball, al the time. I’m heading over to your ESPN group now because even though I’m in the family pool, and I can use words like “RPI”, “strength of schedule” and “triangle vs. zone”, the people in that pool with me actualyl know what they all mean. And I’ll get clobbered. Not that I won’t here, but at least it will be among y’all! :)

  7. YES!!! Thanks, BM!

I think the women will dominate on this one. As my ex-boyfriend (bless his heart) used to say, March Madness is the only time in life that women can separate emotions from their decisions while men cannot.

  8. I’m in! Our Minnesota Golden Gophers made the tournament this year so we’re a little twitterpated about it! Go Gophers!

  9. I love this idea, I’ll join! My husband has made each of us a bracket all five years of marriage. I started out picking by uniform color or cheerleader outfit- I wasn’t raised in a family that had a special team! But now I try to make ‘educated’ choices. My husband still laughs at them. But the truth is, I’ve beat him every year so far. Let’s keep up the tradition! He printed our brackets last night, so I’ll make mine tonight. :o)

  10. Just submitted my bracket. This is the first time I’ve ever done one. Now I’m waiting for my hubby to get home and 1. laugh at my picks, and 2. get mad because I didn’t pick his Tarheels to win the whole thing!

  11. YAY !!! In…although choosing between Siena and Ohio St may just kill me

  12. Woot, woot! Let’s play ball!

  13. Okay, I just signed up and joined your group! (I’m MommyAngela2.) But I’ll have to do my brackets later tonight. Yay!

  14. Bless you BooMama! I’ve been begging the hubs to have his work set up a pool(so that I could join in) since I’m no longer working and have no co-workers to bracket with.
I will admit that I get pretty competitive and the madness runs through my veins when it comes down to the final 16. Bring it on girls! :)

  15. youngandnearlyfamous says:

okay… delurking just to tell you that I signed up, I’m not some stranger… sort of. Yay march madness!

  16. so I figured why not? But I have no clue about basketball. I watch, I cheer, I support my team, but as for filling out the bracket? I guessed! :-). here an upset, there an upset… but it will be fun!

  17. How fun!!! I am joining your group and I promise I won’t make fun of you but from the comments on your last post, I think I am the lone U.T. fan. OH WELL, I will carry that. ;)
ONE more thing, I will be cheering your team on. I want the SEC to prove them all wrong but if not there is always football.

  18. Too funny about the cuter mascot thing. If I don’t know much about a team I root for the ones with the uniform colors I like better:)

  19. Okay- thank you for this! I am totally in! I love March madness. I do not watch basketball any other time of the year. I love making picks though. I have improved over the years, however, I still often go with the cooler mascot.

    Cara

  20. I joined! I love March Madness even though I know nothing. I make my picks based on how much I like the name of the school/mascot, or the colors. :) Oh, and I have to root for the Memphis Tigers. Sorry. :)

  21. Picked my bracket!! Go SEC!!!

  22. Cute mascots are a time honored way of choosing teams. So are sharing colors with your sorority and your cousin’s next door neighbor’s grad school. Off to ESPN.

  23. Bring it ON! :)

  24. I joined. Probably will be the only Big Ten fan, but somebody’s gotta represent!

  25. I live in the heart of “basketball country” here in NC. I actually worked at a law office that closed early for tourney games. My kind of place! Glad to throw my bracket into the mix…

    Go Tarheels!

  26. Think I might do this and impress the heck out of my husband who is a basketball coach!

  27. I won’t laugh at you, because I almost always choose my brackets based on the jerseys. No, I’m not kidding. And, for the record, I’ve done really *really* well with that strategy in the past! :)

  28. I did it. I know nothing about basketball. Sorry. But it was fun picking out which team I thought would win. Of course, I put MSU at the top! I wouldn’t be true to my state if I didn’t!

  29. We may have issues at my house. I am a Missouri fan (being that we live in Columbia and I attended school there!)and my dear spouse is straight up Bull Dogs all the way. You don’t know how excited he is that we get to actually watch them play since we don’t get a lot of SEC viewing time in Big 12 country.

I like to pick winners based on the tenacity of the ol’ mascots. If this were the case, a Missouri TIGER could take a MSU Bulldog…just saying :)

  30. Melissa says:

Play Ball! I’m in. Thanks Boo Mama – I actually made picks this year. Go Boilers!

  31. Michelle says:

Did you see the SNL skit when Payton Manning hosted, and the girl who won picked every team based on uniform color and mascots? It is HYSTERICAL…

  32. I am a Florida State Alum. Its their first time in the tourney in a long time, so of course I had to pick them to go all the way.
I always pick random teams, since I do not keep up with basketball, and I do better than some that have legit reasons for picking their bracket!

  33. This is awesome! I have absolutely no idea who to pick because I haven’t been following, and your mascot idea is brilliant! Although I don’t follow the teams well, March Madness is a pretty exciting season that gives a little variety to our days. :)

  34. Oh my word! I do the same thing when it comes to picking teams! Too funny.

    : )

  35. I joined! I love March Madness!

  36. Love the way you’ve picked the lesser known teams. Hey – whatever works! Back in the day I won several NFL pools the exact same way. LOL

  37. BooMama,

I want to join your March Madness group but am having issues. Is it locked? Can I still join? :)

    Kara

  38. Thank you so much for setting this up. Each year my husband and I play against each other, (not that we’re competitive or anything) for bragging rights. I love that I can play with other people, too. I LOVE March Madness!
