Assorted Variety Of Random

1. Garden Salsa Sun Chips are delicious.
2. “The Sing-Off” could have been so much more.
3. I’m totally in love with the color turquoise right now.
4. The state of Alabama is a little fired up about football right now. This is one of many reasons I am so thankful to live here.
5. I have never seen Titanic. And yet my heart still goes on.
6. I will watch any television show about people buying a home.
7. Oatmeal cookies are underrated.
8. Current fashion obsession: Sandra Bullock’s orange sweater / navy pants / gray & white striped scarf outfit in The Proposal.
9. I have no desire to see Avatar.
10. I feel like I have no idea how to successfully put on eye make-up. Still. And I’ve been wearing make-up for A LOT OF YEARS.
11. The new season of “The Bachelor” is supposedly more family-friendly than previous seasons, but hopefully it’ll be just as cheesy (FINGERS CROSSED).
12. Watched Duplicity. Thought it was two different movies in one. Which, I guess, is consistent with its title.
13. Why has nobody made a reality show about women who genuinely like each other and enjoy each other’s company and are, you know, FRIENDS?
14. Just a little more than a week until the new season of “American Idol” begins. Feels like the last one just ended.
15. The other day I watched the last few minutes of the “90210” where they change the Hollywood sign to “W Bev Hi ’93,” and I had the sobering realization that THAT WAS OVER FIFTEEN YEARS AGO. Time stops for no man, y’all. Not even Brandon Walsh.

  1. Ah – Brandon Walsh. Looooove him! And yes – I realize that my loving Brandon Walsh just aged me significantly…

  2. Mmm…Garden Salsa Sun Chips. Or any flavor for that matter.
And Brandon Walsh. Geez he’s old.

  3. Love Sandra’s outfits in Blind Side. Love Sandra. Period.
Love Sun Chips, now celiac – no more sun chips – very sad.
Don’t want to see Avatar – now or on video or ever.
Have never seen Titanic, ditto above.
Yet more reasons why we would be fantastic IRL friends!!lol

  4. #1 and #3 – ditto

About Avatar. My husband talked me into seeing it last Monday night. (He had surgery the next day so I sort of felt it was like a last meal or something. In other words, I was guilted into it.)

    IT WAS TERRIBLE.

We saw the 3-D version and I was motion sick after 30 minutes and spent the next 2 hours with my head in my hands praying it would all be over soon.

He owes me big time. :)

    Happy New Year!
    steph.

  5. Crystal Ward says:

I too have NO desire to see Avatar. I graduated the same year as the 90210 crew. I remember being a small child and thinking that my parents were old because they were having a 10 year reunion, and here I am working on 17 years out of school and 34 really isn’t ancient after all. My 4 and 5 year old may beg to differ with my opinion on that matter.
I am excited about the next season of American Idol and the Biggest Looser starts tomorrow. YEAH!

  6. Christine says:

I am so happy that you have no desire to see Avatar… I keep telling my husband that we will go see it… but I really dont want to… and I feel kind of Un-American about it.

I feel the same way about Tim Tebow. I dont like him, but I sure do feel bad about it. (The fact I don’t like him could be attributed to my Alumni status at the University of Tennessee).

  7. I feel the same way about oatmeal cookies and eye makeup! And my hubby and kidddos love Sun Chips…I am just now getting to where I like the plain ones though!

  8. We watched a few minutes of the “Donna Martin Graduates!” episode the other day. That was good stuff. Only we were mildly disturbed that they actually let Donna graduate, even though she totally broke the rules. Still. Dylan McKay in the midst of the protest was classic.

  9. 4.Roll Tide Roll!!
I would LOVE to be in Alabama right now!

    6. I love shows about people buying houses too! I like to find reasons why I wouldn’t buy the house!

    10. I used to LOVE to put on eyeliner… But since I’ve had children, I don’t really have a reason to wear it all that often…

  10. Funny you say that about turquoise, because I read a marketing article just this morning about how that VERY color is THE THING this year.

I’m not sure how something could be THE THING in 2010 when we’re only on day four. But that’s what it said.

I was not a fan of Titanic. Which has always made me feel like I should hand in my Girl Card. My husband, however, loved it. For the history, of course. For the history.

  11. Is it weird that I have no comment for any specific thing in this post yet I am just ridiculously delighted at your randomness? I sooo get you. A scary thing, I presume.

  12. Regarding #4. . .

    Hook ’em Horns!!

    :-)

  13. ….I’m a turquoise fan from WAY back! I love the 50’s turquoise and I don’t know that it’s a lot different than the current turquoise, but I have a 50s turquoise theme in my kitchen. (Is there an award for the excessive use of the word turquoise?)

Eye makeup and me? Well, we just aren’t good together. I either look like I have nothing on my eyes or a hooker — I’m sure there’s a happy medium. It’s my goal to find it.

The Bachelor! I had almost given up on it, but I’m hopeful… so hopeful. I only want to see some hand-holding… and the fantasy suite? Well, I FIRMLY stand on my belief it is a place to talk and snuggle away from the cameras.
And it’s Jake, and he’s about as exciting… as well, plain cream cheese. It’s good, but not exciting… and we all know he’s just too perfect — at least that what he keeps telling us.

  14. #5 – You are lucky. I wish I get those hours of my life back!
#6 – Me too. It drives the hubs nuts.
#9 – DITTO! Lack of a desire is an understatement!

  15. Jennifer says:

Ok, so I can’t believe no one has mentioned #8 yet…I have commented to so many friends and family about Sandra Bullock’s same outfit from The Proposal!! I have probably watched the movie no less than 20 times already. It is my most absolute fave and cracks me up that you noticed the exact same outfit and mentioned it in a random post! you are my hero!! haha…

  16. You make me smile.

  17. Yeah, don’t bother with Titanic. I saw it a couple of years ago and it made me gag. This is the plot in a nutshell: bored unhappy rich white girl meets poor white boy and has a 24 hr romance or something like that…and the memory of it is so strong that she is willing to give up everything in her life just so she could live in his memory, and to throw a priceless diamond into the sea 70 years later, just cuz she still loves him. GAG! Women are not that stupid, sentimental, and idiotic! I felt it gave all of us a bad name.
It was very popular in Africa though. Go figure.

  18. Whew! I am glad to know that I am not the only one who does not know how to properly apply eye makeup. I have no idea how to put on eyeliner, so I never do. And I couldn’t care less about Avatar even though the rest of the world seems to love it. It’s just not my kind of movie.

  19. Umm…. Roll Tide. I am packing my bags for Pasadena right now. Super excited about The Bachelor. I love shows about people buying homes. Garden Salsa Sun Chips a must have at our house.

  20. I don’t even know what Avatar is about, isn’t that pitiful?
    We love those chips, too.

  21. 1- You MUST go see Avatar. I hate scifi stuff and it was wonderful. Lovely romance intertwined, lots of drama and action and AMAZING piece of artwork.

2-You need to see Titanic. It’s just the American thing to do.

3-Looking forward to watching the Bachelor again.

  22. My hubby and I saw Avatar and it was one of the weirdest, most interesting movies I’ve ever seen. And even a dear friend of mine who had no interest in seeing it said she was VERY impressed. So, despite it’s lack of appeal, you might be pleasantly surprised. =) Just saying. =)

    I enjoyed your random assortment.

  23. Love the random thoughts – I too have never seen Titanic – glad to know that there is another one of us out there!

  24. I am with you no desire for Avatar! I have to admit my heart fluttered when you mentioned Brandon Walsh!

  25. Carol N. says:

No “Titanic”, no “Forrest Gump”, no “Steel Magnolias”, no “Beaches”. Folks keep telling me I’m missing something, but I’m not so sure. “Avatar” isn’t too bad, it boils down to simple good vs. evil, but I also was feeling wonky once we left and I attributed it to the 3-D effects instead of the 3 gallons of diet coke and tub-o-butter popcorn. “Sherlock Holmes” gets my vote for the picture to see this holiday season. And I gave up on eye shadow years ago, along with panty hose. And ROLL TIDE!

  26. Roll Tide!!

This is from a Buckeye living in Longhorn country, and I am beyond sick of their arrogance and mean comments to me. Just a little (not literally) blonde gal from Ohio in her scarlet and grey…so sad…

So glad I’m not the only one who loved Sandra’s outfit – I couldn’t stop looking at that one.

Please tell me you’ve seen “The Blind Side”!! My sister and I saw it together over Christmas vacation while the menfolk say ‘Avatar”. I CAN NOT wait to see it again.

And speaking of Sandra Bullock and eye makeup – as a fellow blonde, I think you should consider a heavy dark brown liner on the top lid only. Her character in TBS inspired me, and I am quite happy with the outcome.

My 20-year-old niece, her bff, and my sister and I are going to skype after watching “The Bachelor” tonight to declare our favorites.

    Hope you’re feeling better!

  27. I feel the same way about Sandra’s outfit.

  28. Garden Salsa Sun Chips will absolutely be my demise.

Ever had Cosco’s oatmeal cookies? oh my.

Avatar – meh (is that the word they use?)

A whole lotta reality t.v. coming up. I’d like to thank the producers for making my Midwest winter go just a wee bit faster.

    Loved this post!!

  29. I’m sorry. Hold on please. You haven’t seen Titanic?!?!?! Oh. My. I saw it about 4 times in the theater and that was just the beginning of my love. I watch it everytime it comes on TV! Please watch it soon!

  30. I too have no desire to see Avatar. I am usually a total movie-stalker but this one just doesn’t do a darn thing for me.
However, I will gladly take those Oatmeal cookies off your hands…I think they are da bomb!

  31. I have to disagree about Avatar, but I’m with you on the turquoise…

Last week I tried a turquoise cocktail dress on for a wedding and went out to show my husband. When he saw it he said, “You know turquoise is the hot color of 2010!”

Somehow he got the fashion memo, but luckily, I got the dress!

  32. Just say NO to Avatar! I love a good movie, but have no desire to see this one either.

Of course, I’ve never seen any of the Star Wars, Rocky or Terminator movies either. My husband thinks I should be kicked out of the USA. :o)

  33. Love your random thoughts! I should really start doing those! Do you write yours down when you think of them? I would have to or else I would forget them! My favorite Barbies as a child were all of the 90210 ones! Love that show to this day, it never gets old! I agree with you on Avatar, no desire to see it what so ever! I think someone should make a reality show on blogger friends, don’t you?! People who have met through blogs on the internet and are great friends, it would for sure be a hit in blogger world!

  34. I am so with you on 6, 7, 9, 10, 11 and 14.

  35. Roll Tide!!! We just moved to Tuscaloosa from Louisiana and I have noticed a bit of excitement around here (sarcasm). My husband’s new boss told him his first order of business was to run the plant when he goes to Pasadena. Roll tide!

  36. I can’t even THINK about 90210…makes me feel REALLY old!

I agree about the “Sing Off” and Avatar.

Not a huge fan of any Sun Chip, Bachelor or Idol.

  37. Sun Chips – two thumbs up
Eye Make-up – not good at it, had eyeliner tattoed (upper & lower) like it
Oatmeal cookies – especially good with CHOCOLATE COVERED raisins :)
Avatar – wanted to see it, haven’t seen it, I’m over it. I heard there was a lot of bad language

    I like random.

  38. random is a recurring theme on my blog…love a good random post.

I was just thinking the same thing about AI…I do love it though so I’m not complaining although I’m gonna miss Paula and her random…she is perhaps the queen of random…not a big fan of Kara so I’m worried about the new season.

I liked the movie Titanic…we went to the exhibit in NYC over the holiday so we had to re-watch the movie when we got home.

    Happy New Year!

  39. ROLL TIDE! So far this is my favorite part of living in Alabama, well that and the Bama Roll from Ginza that you so kindly told us about. Speaking of random…..the Christmas decorations in there are delightfully random.

  40. #’s 1,6, and 10 are just three of the reasons I love you! You are a woman after my own heart!

  41. i’m a Texan who says ROLL TIDE!!!!!

i gave up on eye make-up…i just do mascara and dark brown liner on the top lid, and i get so many compliments!

i don’t want to see avatar either. and titanic? wish i hadn’t seen it. cheesy!

good to know about the sing-off. i missed it and was bummed about it, but i guess it’s ok!

  42. Completely agree with #1,2,6,9,and 10. And can’t wait for the Bachelor tonight!!

  43. I’m totally with you on 1, 2, 6, 7, 9 and 13. But, I’m not on board with #14. After 10 years, I’m finally getting tired of reality TV. I want something fake, funny and scripted (oh wait… most reality TV is fake and scripted, but I need something more clever these days!). Love the random thoughts!

  44. This list = Crackin’ me up!

    Amen to # 3, 8, 9, 13, & 15!

Honestly, I had no idea there were normal Americans who had never seen Titanic! I am ashamed to admit that I saw it several times in the theater and thought it was absolutely amazing. My only consolation was that I was 17 at the time.

  45. Oh, and a double amen to adoring Sandra Bullock’s outfit!

  46. First of all, I can’t believe you’ve never seen Titanic!

However, do you know what else is underrated?! The potato!

  47. Wow. My hubby and I thought that we were the only people in America who had not seen Titanic. We have friends who have asserted that fact many a time. We are now being super-stubborn about it. I will not see it. Not now. Not ever. It might be my claim to fame.

  48. I agree so much with the thing about the reality show about women who like each other! I teach middle school, and trust me, there is plenty of “drama” during my day, without watching two 19 year olds getting in a cat fight that night. I think maybe it’s time for a Golden Girls/Designing Women reality show…

  49. This list seals the deal for me that we were indeed sisters separated at birth.

  50. I knew there was a reason I heart you so much! As if I was actually casting about for reasons! I too have never seen Titanic…I figured if I know how it ends, does it really matter what happens? Also, I have no desire to see Avatar either. And I would say that our tastes in TV diverge a bit more than our movie tastes, but I am so anxious to watch that episode of Iron Chef on the DVR and I too was a wee bit disappointed in “The Sing-Off”, even if I did cry thru the whole last half hour of it.

    Happy ’10 to y’all!!

  51. #5 is possibly my favorite statement in a blog like EVER.

  52. I love that you watched The Sing-Off. It had my favorite musician, Ben Folds, as one of the judges. It just made me so happy that other people might find out how awesome he is.
Also, I really wish the Bubs had won.

  53. I do not want to see Avatar either.
And I loved Brandon Walsh either. I hadn’t watched the last two season but the finale night a couple friends and I gathered around and ordered pizza and had beers.

  54. I have no desire to see Avatar either. We might be the only two people in the world. And I’m super excited about The Bachelor and I hope there are some real freaks on this one. And I think it will be cheesy. Jake is cheesy by himself.

  55. Re: #10 – I was having that same thought about eye makeup just the other day. Hubby bought me one of those fancy lighted mirrors, and I was realizing that even that and the hundreds of eye makeup consultations I’ve had at dozens of make up counters hasn’t helped. You’d think after 20+ years of applying makeup, I’d get the hang of it. Alas…

  56. Right there with ya on the Sing-off(and many other things on your list). I could have watched it for weeks!

  57. Oatmeal cookies are always a YES.

I have no idea what Avatar is about and have ZERO desire to be filled in on that.

    PS – Hook ‘Em!

  58. No Titanic. Seriously? Wow.

    Go Nota!

  59. OK BooMama,
I am totally about to shame myself for the purpose of enterainment!! I am afraid to say that I had the Brandon doll!! (Not to mention the Dylan, Brenda, and Donna doll as well) I so just told my age, but it was for a good cause!! Love you and your blog!

  60. I’m with you on #6!!

  61. You make me smile. I always have to check and see what you’ve said before I go to bed. You never disappoint:)

I’m not interested in Avatar, either, but my hubby wants to see it. Ugh! I hate giving up 162 minutes of my life for a movie like that but……..

I resisted seeing Titanic for a couple of years when it was popular. I mean, we KNOW how it ends and I knew I would get all shook up watching it happen….but I did think it was a good movie when I finally saw it. It was a really loooonnnggg movie, too. Do you see where I’m going with this? Above mentioned hubby watched Titanic with me, so I’ll let you know my opinion about Avatar. Sigh.

Oh, turqoise is one of my favorite colors and it’s about time it’s getting props! Woo-Hoo!!

  62. BooMama

I am surprised you saw the blind side! My bulldog obsessed hubby is sure they only took in Michael Oher so he could go to Ole Miss and play football because Ole Miss is all out to get MSU you know. He will not go and see it with me. He can’t believe that the Tuohy’s were doing what God called us all to do and help those who need it! No way, they were just recruiting for Ole Miss if you ask him! and let me just say that I had a HUGE 2nd grade crush on some Sean Tuohy when he played for the Rebels back in the day! I hearted him!

  63. I am ALSO obssessing over that outfit…but are those pants REALLY navy blue?? I so thought they were black.

  64. Agree with so many of these.
ALSO, I went to college with one of the women on the Bachelor with Jake (on right now on the West Coast). BIZARRE… Reality TV world collides with real world…

  65. I saw just this week that Andrea- the “older” gal on 90210 (or 90 as we called it, for short) turned 45. FORTY FIVE. She was a 30 year old high schooler. I knew it all along.

  66. I am so right there with you on numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

  67. yes to 4, 7, 9, 11 (he’s the ONLY reason I’m back on board after the last couple runs), and 14! Great list…

don’t live in Alabama, but you’re my neighbor, I loved Bear Bryant, and I’m rootin for ya!!!! ROLL TIDE.

  68. never saw titanic either. what’s to know? it still sinks!

don’t care to see avatar. looks stupid, if you want my honest opinion.

    go gators!

love turquoise blue, and aqua, too.

i think i’m giving up american idol for the biggest loser. it’s way more inspiring.

and oatmeal cookies are underrated, but they are ruined with raisins. just sayin’.

  69. Ah the random! ;)

Don’t be too hard on The Sing-Off, you know that Amy Beth Bullard’s college choir made it quite far on there!

Titanic is over-rated and cheesy… and yet I cried when we saw it in the theater. I can’t believe I was still in community college and on an actual double date for that movie!

I have no desire to see Avatar either. I heard it’s a modern version of Ferngully (which if you haven’t seen either, don’t).

Oh, I am so EXCITED about The Bachelor! I have high hopes for Jake and that he will be keeping it clean for us! Go buddy!

    Carry on…

  70. …and THIS is why I LOVE your blog.

    Randomness. Is there anything better?

    I say not.

  71. Number 6: Ditto.
Number 9: THANK YOU FOR WRITING IT OUT LOUD!
Number 10: I’m so glad I’m not the only one. It must run in the family.

    Love the randomness.

  72. I haven’t seen Titanic either and have no desire to do so. And yes, my heart is still going strong.

    Avatar-yikes, no thanks.

  73. I am totally with you on Avatar – no desire to see it whatsoever. And I have neveer seen Titanic either.

My top “want to see” movies right now are Blindside and Invictus

  74. Seriously, Avatar is amazing. I was sort of on the fence until we saw it over the weekend and I clapped at the end. I was the only yahoo clapping in the theatre, but it was so good that I didn’t mind in the least. I know probably 763 people will say the same thing to you, but it’s seriously worth it. And while it’s a good movie stand-alone, it also is a great discussion starter.

    Easily 1000% better than Titanic.

  75. Thank goodness I’m not the only one who watched bits and pieces of that 90210 episode last week. : )

  76. With regards to #10 … for my 15th birthday, my mom got me a Mary Kay makeover. She figured (1) if I was going to wear makeup she was going to rescue me from the ho-ish hell I was currently making for myself, and (2) I was going to learn to take care of my skin. I am now *35* and thankful am still thankful for those lessons.

And I still love getting those little mini-makeovers every now and again :)

  77. I got sea sick watching Titanic and think Avatar might make me feel the same way.

When they previewed this season’s happenings on The Bachelor last night, I think that their definition of “family-friendly” and mine are quiet different.

I am loving periwinkle right now.

Let’s start our own reality show Soph, we would have a blast.

    The Park Wife

  78. ROLLLLLL TIDE ROLLLLLLL!!!!

  79. I just watched The Proposal last night! I had seen it in the theater with friends. I have no desire to see Avatar either! And I enjoy the Garden Salsa Sun Chips as well! Especially with a sub from Subway!

  80. Jenny from VA says:

    I LOVE OATMEAL COOKIES!

If last night’s bachelor was “family friendly” I’m guessing they meant BLIND families only. I would not let my husband watch it after too many bikini shots. Seriously, sisters bind them up!!!

  81. #11 — Saw it last night, too cheesy to watch. Don’t worry about the cheesy factor.

  82. I hated avatar!

  83. #2 I so agree with you! It could have been so much better!!

#5 My Titanic-less heart is also going along quite well!

#9 I don’t want to see Avatar, either, especially after hearing about how the 3-D has made people sick!

    #10 I don’t think I have the eye make-up thing down, either.

  84. The Bachelor didn’t disappoint! I am happy it will be more “family friendly” and am excited about the one girl (don’t remember her name) who is a possible STALKER…can’t have a true Bachelor show without at least one STALKER! Loved it. Always adore your posts!!

  85. With you on the garden salsa and oatmeal cookies.

it’s impossible for the Bachelor NOT to be cheesy. It’s grade school team-picking, only people are wearing formal clothes and making out. Cruel, yet fantastic show.

Can’t wait for Idol to start again. Listening to Simon tell it like it is never gets old to me.

  86. Thanks for the chuckles today! You are so funny! Reading your blog makes me want to move to the south – are all people from the south so hysterical?! Anyway, I really do appreciate your blog – your humor, your insights, and your love for the Lord. (BTW, love 90210. I simply adore wasting precious time watching the reruns again, and again, and again, you get the point I’m sure! Dylan was so stinkin’ cute!)

  87. That episode of 90210 episode can still make me cry. (I graduated in 1993).

As for “American Idol”? I can’t WAIT. That show is SUCH a time suck, but I can’t help myself.

  88. Garden Salsa Sun Chips are a bit addicting… but they’re healthy, right?!?! (Riiiiiiight.)

I, too, have no idea how to successfully do my eye make-up. Maybe we could get someone to do a tutorial? I would love that.

    Happy new year, Boo!

  89. I’m totally with you on 3/4/5/6/7/9/10/ and 13. And, as a fellow bulldog, I hope Alabama wins but I’m ready for it to be OVER, my goodness, the MEDIA in ALABAMA right now! I think a nuclear explosion could happen and 33-40 and her sisters would only be showing photos of the backs of photographers standing up close and personal taking photos of Nick Saban! Can’t even SEE Saban!

  90. Completely unrelated to this post but – VooDoo doughnuts in Portland has bacon doughnuts. Enjoy!

    http://media.oregonlive.com/photo-contest/images/voodoo-bacon-maple-bar.jpg

  91. Throw a cup full of cinnamon chips in those oatmeal cookies! It will seriously change your life.

  92. OK, so I watched The Bachelor…is it like it usually is? I have never seen it before until last night.

In real life (I know it’s supposed to be real, but maybe for like 1% of the population), it would never work. I could never see myself wanting to marry in such circumstances.

  93. Christy Cate says:

Here’s some random… Just going through your comments… Have you ever noticed how many Kelly/Kellie/Kelli(s) read/post on your blog?!

  94. I STILL watch reruns of 90210, haha!! Love it..

And so cannot wait for American Idol!!! :)

  95. Oatmeal cookies….are underrated….you pegged that one for sure! We made some delightful Oatmeal Scotchies that are on our recipe blog, and passed them out to teachers last fall…big hit! People should open their minds to the whole oatmeal cookie concept! :) Closed minded bunch of chocolate chip eaters. HA!

  96. 5. I have never seen Titanic. And yet my heart still goes on.

    BAHAHAHAHA!!!
