Linky Interwebby Awesomeness 01.06.09

So much good stuff on the interweb today.

– Travis has a great word for this fine Wednesday.

– Lindsay breaks down the finer points of snow panic in the South. I laughed out loud.

– Annie demonstrates the proper way to fold a fitted sheet. And I am eternally grateful.

– Jon shares some wisdom about appreciating the gift of invisibility.

– And finally, if you want to see some Southern snow panic (Lindsay’s phrase, not mine) in action, check out the ABC 3340 weather blog. A TREASURE, I TELL YOU.

  1. Just saw this comment on al.com in response to all the school closings:

“Ya’ll; it’s about to snow! Hide the women and chilin. Go to the bank; withdraw your savings; buy some milk and bread; put the dog inside; and pray!”

This was my laugh out loud for the night!

  2. HILarious

  3. I have watched Martha Stewart fold a fitted sheet about 42 times, and I still give up, ball it up, and just chunk it in the pillowcase.

  4. Oh, you southerners are so cute with your fear of cold and snow. ;)

  5. I know it’s all relative, but we got 2 feet of snow on Monday night and it barely made the news here in Michigan. How fun for all of you to get a taste of winter-enjoy it!!! My favorite season!

  6. Too funny! Enjoy your snow day. :)

  7. I checked out the ABC weather blog link and found this headline for 1/7/10: “Snow Today, Artic Cold Tomorrow”

“Artic Cold”? Really? I was born and raised there and never once do I remember being cold enough that polar bears would voluntarily inhabit our neighborhood. Or penguins.

I’m pretty sure the ice shelf hasn’t made it to B’ham yet, so you might still have time to save yourself and your fam from the “artic cold”. ;)

  8. oh my…..(says the western PA lady, where it hasn’t stopped snowing in well over a week!)

We get 8 inches of snow overnight, on top of a foot or so, and our kids don’t get a snow day! have fun!

  9. Jon’s post was amazing.

Personally I’d been doing a whole lot of complaining lately about things not moving as fast as I’d like them to with my book and other things, and I needed a reminder that God’s timing is always better than mine.

  10. I will visit the other links later, but I just had to read about the snow panic! Oh, wow, you were completely right about laughing out loud–that was one of the funniest things I have read in weeks! Maybe funnier because it is so true…

Anyway, thanks for the links and hope you have a great day!

  11. My husband came in the kitchen last night with the keys in his hand saying he was headed to walmart to buy batteries and canned goods. I about dropped the dish I was holding thinking he’d finally gone and lost it, then I realized he was kidding. Made me laugh so hard. Snow panic down here always CRACKS US UP.

  12. Okay, Snow Panic made me laugh, too. My mother-in-law will NOT leave her house to to go watch the game tonight at my brother-in-law’s even though my husband has offered to go pick her up and take her home.

  13. I can’t beleive you mentioned the 3340 blog…I have been reading it the last couple days. we just moved to Tusacaloosa from Louisiana and some told my hubs about the blog. Gotta love the south!!!!

  14. Thanks for the links — however, the year should be 2010!

  15. Love it, we are having a snow day here in North Georgia!! I blogged about it too. We put ice cubes in the toilet and white crayons in the freezer too!!!

  16. I love the weather blog! I spent the last several days in Atlanta at the Passion conference and noticed it seemed cold, but just because I assumed it would be warmer there. It was hilarious to me how worked up people that were from there were getting over the temperatures, because I’m from northern Indiana, and the temps they’re getting now are what we get all winter! And now the “snow event”! I loved when the blogger said you might get 1+ inches of snow. Today we got probably 4 inches added to the 2 or 3 already on the ground and tomorrow and Saturday we could get between 10-20 inches of lake-effect snow. I realize everything is relative so this is a big deal for people who don’t experience this everyday, and believe me, I’m glad I’m out of the south now and away from people who don’t know how to drive in the snow, but it just makes me smile to see people get so worked up over something that most people from my area wouldn’t even notice. :)

  17. Bitter cold? Bitter cold? You want to feel bitter cold you go up to MN today. -30. Real Temperature. Seriously, people!

  18. THose links about the weather made this Canadian laugh and laugh and laugh.
    The blog was PRICELESS.

  19. ‘If you see an icy spot on a hill and have room to stop, do so, turn around and go another way.’ That cracked me up! Oh my, an icy spot on a hill! DANGEROUS stuff!… I live in Pennsylvania, which usually has an icy spot on every hill, you just deal with it! Have fun in that blizzard ya got!!
