Haiti

in Compassion

My heart is so heavy for Haiti today.

That’s all I know to say, really.

But if you would like to help with the relief efforts going on in Haiti, please consider making a one-time donation to Compassion’s Disaster Relief Fund. You can donate as little or as much as you’d like; it only takes one look at the photographs coming out of Haiti to know that the needs are mind-boggling.

Thanks, y’all.

I was there 10 years ago. I was so overwhelmed THEN by the poverty, homelessness, rampant crime; really a true hopelessness seemed to permeate the entire country. I hardly have had a day since that Haiti wasn’t on my mind.

I can’t imagine how things will get better now after this. I’m thankful that our loving, caring, all-knowing Father has a plan.

So sad.

You can also text “DISASTER” to 90999 to donate $10 to Compassion or you can text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 to Red Cross for disaster relief.
My prayers are with Haiti.

My heart is heavy as well, so terribly sad. I’ve read every report on the web I can find and have prayed for them all day.

I thought Compassion would have something for Haiti and you would have the link. Thanks.

Me too. I woke up this morning and caught some video footage on The Weather Channel website and I was shocked. Being a builder, and not far away (I’m in Florida) makes me want to just go help… but I don’t know how that would work. It seems like they’re going to have a real mess. I’ll send my few readers over here to see your link to the Compassion Fund. Thanks for putting it up.

One of the poorest third world countries already – what a tragedy. They will have needs we cannot even begin to comprehend. They barely have the basics as it is – we are so blessed here in our snug homes with running water, indoor plumbing, and more than one spare outfit to put on….

I can’t even begin to comprehend the hurt. And I feel so completely helpless. Thanks for sharing the link.

Help will come – there are already loads of supplies but no way to deliver them – good to get people to give. Our church youth have gone there several times to serve – tonight in our prayer time DH and I were both struck with “wars and rumors of wars . . . nation will rise against nation . . there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.” Indeed – come Lord Jesus.

I feel my mind and my heart holding back as I look at the images coming out of that place. I find myself not wanting to go there, to imagine what it would be like. The people there have no choice but to deal with the grim reality. Who am I to avoid thinking too much about the devastation?? thanks for the link.

I can not even wrap my mind around it all. Thank you for the link.

World Vision and Partners in Health are good ones to support as well, particularly as they have operations all over the country. Ministries/nonprofits working out of PAP are just as devastated as everyone else. WV and PIH are still functional.

Foxnews.com has a slide show. Slide 13 has a little boy with a heartbreakingly sad face. It haunts me. I have seen my own babies make that face, but I have always been able to make that face melt away into a smile and a giggle. This boy’s sad face is too much. I can’t make it go away.

I’ve held my babies tighter and prayed for those babies with all my heart and cried an ugly cry over it.

We have been so worried, our sponsored child lives in the Petit Goave region. I’ve been on the Compassion site almost non-stop to try to find out new information. It feels so helpless to just pray and send money. I feel compelled to go, to help more. Such a poor nation already, and then the amount of devastation we see on TV and the images, my heart aches for all of Haiti.

I just blogged about this, too. It seems to be on everyone’s mind. I’ve got to break away from the news to teach the kids…

I have been looking for a charity to give to to help Haiti and I saw that Compassion International was helping there. I remembered how you traveled with them a while back and I have some questions I’d like to ask you about their organization. I am reading their site, but would like to know more from your perspective. Can you please email me? Thanks.

I’m a broke college student. I felt terrible, but I knew I didn’t have money to give, even a little bit. But when I watched the pictures on the news, I scraped together $10 to donate through the Red Cross cell phone donation line. I know not everyone can, but if you can spare even a few bucks, it will mean so much.

It’s awful! I just can’t get the images out of my mind. We are going to sit down as a family tonight and talk about what we can give. I want the kids to be involved, as well.
