Random pictures from my phone, as if anyone in the whole world even remotely cares, but that’s certainly never stopped me from sharing before:

I fell in love with these sandals last week when I was in the Steinmarts. Since I sometimes lack confidence in my sandal-related choices, I took a picture and texted it to Melanie to make sure that they were in fact cute. Mel affirmed my choice, but alas, it was all for naught: they were fresh out of 9s.

It is, quite simply, brilliant. Ten or fifteen flavors of self-serve yogurt along the right wall. At least fifty toppings along the left wall. A veritable mountain of yogurt-related possibilities. Make no mistake: Yogurt Mountain will change your life.

This is the second picture I took of Merritt after we finally escaped from “Valentine’s Day.” I think I like it better than the first one. She looks so thoughtful.

So here’s my current favorite side dish. Snap the ends off of a bunch (or two) of fresh asparagus. Put the asparagus on a cookie sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and fresh lemon juice (half a lemon). Sprinkle with kosher salt and black pepper (to taste). And then – AND THEN –

Sprinkle freshly grated Parmesan cheese on top (or you can use, as Giada says, “parmeezhana-reggzheeano”). Bake at 400 for about 15 minutes (a little less if you like your asparagus super crunchy).
It’s tastier than any green vegetable deserves.

I saw this infomercial on TV one afternoon when I was cooking supper, and I immediately snapped a picture and sent it to a friend of mine who shares my love of “The Carol Burnett Show.” Honestly, I don’t know when I’ve felt more tempted to order an infomercial product – I mean, what could be better than having Mrs. Sa-Wiggins and Eunice hang out with us every single day? I resisted, though. Mainly because of a time in my 20s when I ordered some VHS tapes about relationships and COULD NOT MAKE THEM STOP SHOWING UP IN MY MAILBOX NO MATTER HOW HARD I TRIED.

You’ll be happy to know David took out the fancy stereo and replaced it with my old one. When he finished the re-installation, he walked inside, smiled, and said, “Well, I’m sorry that I tried to give you a nice stereo for your car.”
“It’s totally fine,” I replied. And then I went outside and sat in my car and sang “Reunited” while I gazed lovingly at all the buttons I actually know how to operate. Glory.
The end.

can i just tell you, the fact that i glory over “random” photographs of things that you have experienced in your days?
you make me laugh and give a few handclaps of praise for random!
Love Carol Burnett, I bet it will be at Sam’s or Costco too!!!
That’s the only way we eat our asparagus nowadays. And we love it crispy so longer time, just for the record.
I go to YouTube occasionally and watch old Carol Burnett skits. Love Eunice. You should go there and satisfy your Carol Funny Bone!
I love Carol Burnett…the show was the funniest thing on tv I think. Tim Conway is one of those people you can just look at and laugh.
I just made this asparagus dish for a dinner party a week ago and it got rave revues….it’s my favorite way to cook asparagus. Love it!
ok-that should be reviews. I guess in all the excitement here I was thinking big extravaganzas.
I am going to reveal something to you that I don’t just tell anyone.
I am also a Carol Burnett fanatic, too! But that isn’t what I’m going to confess.
When I was about 10, my aunt (who is only about 1 year older than me), my brother (3 years younger) and I rehearsed for HOURS the Sorry game scene from Carol Burnett and then performed it in front of a live living room audience (my mom, dad and grandmother) AND we tape recorded it…using a vintage 70’s tape recorder…with the little microphone attached…on a stinkin’ cassette tape…because we wanted to listen to it over and over and over and over and over again.
Incidentally, I was Eunice…
AND IT WAS A 7!!!!!!!!!
Blessings,
Dori
Cooking is not my gift but I recently made the asparagus in the oven thing but did not do the cheese. I also did not snap the ends off…I had no idea that I was supposed to do that. Mine wasn’t that great:)
You mean that was your first time at a do-it-yourself yogurt shop? Oh, the shame! We have them all over the place in California and they’re one of our favorite desserts; glad you have them in the South now, too. I think I might have to celebrate your good fortune with a peanut butter/irish mint/chocolate combo with brownies, peanut butter cups, Andes mints, hot fudge & whipped cream. Yes, I think I’ll do that.
You are so funny. I love a bit of random.
I made that asparagus for my in-laws (along with pecan crusted catfish) and the next day they sent me flowers. I guess it was that good. And if you’re feeling fancy…add a little lemon zest with your lemon juice.
And I am so ready for some SEC tourney action on Friday. Hoping the Bulldogs can get it together and win…and hopefully get in the NCAA tourney. Fingers crossed!
OK, you must also drive a Toyota, maybe a Camry, because that shot of your “new” car stereo looks just like mine, including the shift with the button on the side. Wow-ee!
You are SO dang funny!
Do it yourself frozen yogurt??!!! That would be nirvana for me. Oh, dare to dream…
LOVE the random scattered-ness of today’s post. That’s what it’s like everyday inside my head. #1 Very cute. would look great on you! #2 The Hill family are BIG FANS of Yogurt Mountain. Have you tried the mango? I get it and don’t even put toppings on it. #3 Hilarious #4/5 Can’t wait to try it. Asparagus is one of my faves. #6 Carol Burnette is a national treasure. She should be knighted. Except we don’t do that here. #7 Look, if you’ve got power and volume and a few memory buttons and a skip button, what more do you need?
STOP IT! I SAY STOP IT! Yesterday I mentioned our similar tv watching habits, and today I bought asparagus to bake just as you mentioned with my parmesan crusted talapia for supper this evening. So you from the sect that says dinner for lunch and supper for the evening meal? Just wondering.
The car stereo cracks me up…..my husband put one of those fancy ones in our car about three years ago, and I still can’t operate it correctly. I want my old one back! =)
I have YET to get to Yogurt Mountain but all my friends are raving about it. I must go soon!
No Rock Band?
They now know me at Yogurt Mountain, thanks to my addiction of the pomegranate yogurt with caffeine in it! I am spending waaaay too much money there, bringing home the giant containers of it every few days. I so love that place!!
You are way to funny! I love the Giada comment only I can totally hear your southern accent!
Carol is great did u know Vicki Lawrence and Momma have a one woman show? google it.I’m going in April I know it will be good!
The only problem with Yogurt Mountain is that it is too small in there! Why they ever thought to have that narrow section @ the back is beyond me. We were in there Saturday night after eating @ Ginza and you could not move. One of the guys working there said they would have to just move on over into the bridal shop before long. So yummy though!
Carol defines my childhood, I have so many memories of that show and they are still just as funny today as they were then. I will still laugh to the point of tears when she comes sweeping down the stairs wearing the curtain rod in “Went With The Wind”. And can I just say that I have never seen or read Gone With The Wind. I KNOW. My only defense is that I am a Yankee transplanted to the south.
And only because I think he may be the closest I ever have been to a “celebrity” – Eli Gold was at the table next to us @ lunch today. I am telling you this why? Because I am a Yankee and most of my friends and family to the north will have no clue who that is :)
Sorry for that ramble or randomness.
Your husband is a keeper!
(And Mrs. SaWiggins still cracks me up.)
You know, there are Steinmart(s) all over: the bloggy world could find you those sandals in 9. Just like they found Melanie those ZhuZhu pets before Christmas………..
Well, I have never once in my life wanted to delete you from my daily bookmarks, but after you’ve desecrated all that beautiful asparagus, I just do NOT know what to do.
Yogurt Mountain Rocks, unless you have the crazy idea to try to cram yourself in there on a Saturday night with every single high school kid in the city from at least 20 different high schools that all just got out of various basketball games and you feel absolutely stinkin ancient. And you feel even more ancient when you are absolutely stunned and horrified by the cheerleaders from one of the local high schools that’s cheer outfits are so short that they are showing UNDERBUTT. At that moment you vow never to ever ever ever let your daughter (not that you have one so you’re safe to go — all of this is hypothetical of course) to be a cheerleader ever ever. All from a visit to YoMo to get your FroYo and be all hip like that.
I had an uncle who bought infomercial stuff. Making your way through his house was like walking through a QVC maze. I’m sure he had 8 or 10 of the Carol Burnett collections. He never bought less than 5 of anything.
I’m going to try that recipe! Can’t wait.

Those yogurt places are all over Southern California. I was hoping The South would find out about them before I move back.
I love Carol Burnet! But if it had been the Muppets I couldn’t have resisted!
love love love those sandals. the end.
Oh my word I would have bought the Carol Burnette Shows for sure! I was raised by my grandmother and we used to “camp out” on the sofa sleeper on Friday nights and watch the show together…wonderful memories…crazy laughter! I would risk the mail fiasco all over for that one!
IMHO, you dodged a bullet with the sandals.
I love lemon juice on asparagus. But I prefer asparagus out of a can than fresh. Blasphemy, I know. And I squeeze the lemon juice from one of those plastic lemons. I’m so not “of the land.”
And I LOVE CAROL BURNETT. One of my favorite skits is the Gone with the Wind skit, and one of my favorite lines is something like, “I saw it in the window and couldn’t resist.” Classic.
Ok, this is so weird. I’ve been thinking for weeks how funny it would be if someone just glanced at the pictures on my phone– CRAZY stuff on there.
I’ve been roasting the asparagus ever since I acquired my very first Barefoot Contessa cookbook (though I don’t use the lemon juice– just kosher salt & fresh cracked black pepper & PARMESAN). You know, Ina also recommends topping it with a fried egg- MMMMMM!!!!
