For The Record, Frank Is Clearly The Early Favorite

I was all set to write a big ole post tonight (WITH SENTENCES! AND EVERYTHING!), but the onset of a delightful summer cold has stopped me in my bloggy tracks. So I’m going to make a list of everything I wanted to talk about so that I can address them at some point in the next couple of days or weeks or years or perhaps even decades.

1) Craig M. on “The Bachelorette” is Wes 2.0.

2) Ali’s more modest take on beach apparel is a refreshing “Bachelorette” change.

3) Last weekend we put a squirrel feeder on our deck, and it has changed my life forever.

4) Seriously. FOREVER.

5) This past weekend marked ten years since we moved to Birmingham. Moving here was one of the best decisions we have ever made. It’s home, and we love it so much.

6) Today is our 13th wedding anniversary – I just cannot believe that much time has passed since I walked down the aisle. I’ve been thinking a lot about the ups and the downs and the sticking it out and how marriage is so much more rewarding than a wedding.

7) This afternoon D printed out a sample ballot for tomorrow’s primary elections so that he’ll be well-prepared when he gets to the polls. You have no idea how much that makes me smile.

8) My heart was so heavy today for a local family whose son was recently killed in Afghanistan. It isn’t lost on me that one reason why #7 is even possible is because of the brave people who serve our country so selflessly. I am grateful.

9) I have a couple of giveaways scheduled to post in a few hours, and since I wrote them before the onset of the summer cold, you can rest in the peace of knowing that there are REAL-LIVE PARAGRAPHS!

(And also: gift cards!)

(FANCY!)

10) Happy Tuesday, everybody.

  1. Squirrel feeders are great, but beware of feeding them peanuts. they tend to “plant” them, and then things, really BIG things over time, tend to grow up out of nowhere :)

Happy ‘nniversary, you two crazy kids!

  2. Squirrels and I are not the greatest of friends round here – they have and are destroying my garden and upending everything I plant, just so they can PLANT THEIR NUTS and I have had to dig up no end of peanut and walnut trees from my planters. Shriek. But I am happy yours are better behaved!
    Happy Anniversary!

  3. Happy Anniversary!

  4. So glad Ally sent the bully home. I don’t like that kind of drama.

    Happy Anniversary!

  5. Happy Anniversary!!!!

  6. Is one of the giveaways “Fancy Nights” by Jessica Simpson?

  7. Craig M. Oh. my. word.

Happy Anniversary! You were married on the day I turned 14!

  8. Judith says:

I’m getting married next month, and am so glad to hear this! I think wedding planning is over-rated. Marriage planning is where our time really needs to be invested. Good to hear it from someone down the road farther than we are.

  9. Joanne (The Simple Wife) says:

While I have no idea who Frank is–life without a TV often leaves me feeling clueless–I do wish you a happy anniversary and a quick recovery from your cold.

Colds in the summer? Just plain wrong.

  10. You said it best: “…marriage is so much more rewarding than a wedding.”

    Amen, sister.

(and Happy Anniversary to you and D!)

  11. Happy Anniversary! I hope you feel better soon. (Your cold. I’m sure your marriage is fine!)

I love you, but I can’t watch Batchelor and Batchelorette. I just have a slight problem with these people all making out with someone one right after the other. I don’t think it was meant to be that way. ;)

  12. Nicole says:

Ok, there was a “connection” with Frank but I don’t really see them as a couple. I think we’re going to see a lot more of Roberto and also the guy whose brother passed away – can’t think of his name. Seems super down to earth.

    Happy Anniversary!

P.S. Was Craig M. really wearing Turquoise pants at the photo shoot??!!!

  13. Tye went to Mississippi State!

  14. We loved Birmingham too! Would move back there in a second!
And I’ve been enjoying some squirrel antics of my own… glad to know someone else can appreciate a squirrel!
    Happy Anniversary!

  15. Happy Anniversary! I hope you two have a just wonderful day!

  16. Squirrel feeders and bird feeders make me so happy too!

Big blessings to you on your anniversary!
    God is so good!
    Hope you feel well quick!

  17. Maybe it’s hormones, but I am already in tears…

    for that family
    for your roots in B’ham
    for your wonderful celebration today
for your D and his ballot
for your heart to pray for me (and mine to pray for you)

For the fact that we serve a risen Savior, who has kept us from the brink through such prayers.

    Love you, S! Happy Anniversary!!!!

  18. B’ham is my hometown. I love, love, love it! I love Jackson,MS, but I would move back in a heartbeat!
    War Eagle and Go State!

  19. Hope you’re feeling better soon . . . any chance you’ll let your bloggy pals see a wedding photo? :) My husband and I will be married 13 years in July!

  20. Hope you feel better soon, so you can enjoy the squirrely antics and your anniversary! We will celebrate 16 years this summer and I found this

    http://dayindayoutdayupdaydown.blogspot.com/search?q=16+reasons

on another blog that I like to read and I thought is was divine, so I am planning to do my own to give to my Hubby!

  21. Hope you feel better soon ! Summer colds are the worst.

    Happy Anniversary !!

  22. I just have to say that Boomama, you crack me up. I usually head over to your blog just to have a good laugh. I think we were twins at some point in a past life — we share a common kind of humor. Keep on bloggin’ it girl! God bless.

  23. Happy Anniversary! And…my mom’s cousin (I guess he is my cousin, too) is up for re-election in B-ham. Steve French is his name. I don’t know what his views are. I Just thought I would drop you a line!

  24. I still remember when you referred to Wes as Snaky McCreaperson (or something similar)! It still cracks me up because it was PERFECT. Craig M. is definitely Wes’ evil twin brother.

On a more real note, Happy Anniversary! That is awesome.

  25. You really think Frank? I missed their date, but really liked Jesse & Roberto. Will have to pay more attention to Frank.

Agree totally about Craig M. He was definitely creepy, but Jonathan also bugs me a little.

    Happy Anniversary!

  26. Congratulations!!! We’re celebrating #12 in October–on the one hand, time flies (I’m too young to be married 12 years, LOL) and on the other, we’ve done a lot in those dozen years. Happy anniversary!

  27. Happy Anniversary!!!

  28. I like Frank too. His home town’s a stone’s throw from here so he’s the Home Team for me. I haven’t seen Episode 2 yet – sounds like he must’ve at least been somewhat impressive. :) Happy Anniversary to you two. I hope it just keeps gettin’ better!

  29. Happy anniversary!

Love Frank! I have since he was introduced on the first episode. I like Ty (my hometown boy) and Roberto, too. I usually don’t watch these anymore, but I’m feeling frisky this summer. Can’t wait to see it all unfold!

  30. Karin Whitman says:

Congrats on your 13 years. We will be 10 this July. Your comments made me think of a Sara Groves lyric (and what doesn’t make me think of an SG lyric?)…”better than our promises is the day we got to keep ’em…I wish those two could see us now..never would believe how there are different kinds of happy..”
Anyways, here’s to many more happy years!
    Karin

  31. I’m always fond of a good list and yours was no exception!

Wishing you many continued blessings on the anniversary of your marriage – congratulations!

  32. HAPPY BELATED ANNIVERSARY!!!♥♥

(Why do I keep showing up late for your big family events? Heres hoping I wish you Merry Christmas on time!)

  33. Just stopped by to tell you that your recent article in Homelife had me seriously LOL-ing. Seriously! Keep it coming! :)

  34. After three years without, I now have a house with a backyard. And today there were three squirrels, dancing around and putting on this whole show, and well, it doesn’t take much to distract me.

  35. Craig M. was so, so, so bad. If Ali didn’t give him the boot, I may have had to quit watching. But, thankfully, I can continue on with my guilty pleasure now. :)

  36. First – congratulations on wedding anniversary – yes marriage is a good thing – strange how that which the Lord planned for us, gave us and Blessed – is good for us!
Secondly – we are NOT watching Bachelorette – it’s a thang we decided wasn’t good for us – people who jump in and out of emotional and sexual entanglements and end up – well no sermon needed but we are abstaining.
Squirrels are abundant around here and we do NOT feed them – but then skunks, armadillo, possums and raccoons are abundant here also without feeders – just critter blessed I suppose.
About the loss of a brave American on foreign soil – it is so noble and so often taken for granted –
about summer cold – bah hiss boo – go awayand leave our Sophie to enjoy her summertime summertime sum sum summertime!

  37. Love, love, love FRANK!!!! Get rid of the weatherman and the wrestler.
    :)

  38. Ah, you make me laugh! Happy Anniversary!
And I am SO glad that Craig M is gone… he actually reminded me more of Dave than Wes… scary!
