An Oreck Magnesium Giveaway

in Giveaways

It’s no big secret that I’m a huge college sports fan. Basketball and football are my favorites, and a lifelong love for Mississippi State teams of both varieties has left me well-acquainted with all sorts of game-related stresses. In fact, if you asked me how, as an adult, I’m able to remain relatively calm in the midst of a stressful situation, I would refer you to a dozen different clips on YouTube that chronicle a shocking, come-from-behind win by the Bulldogs – or a devastating, last-minute loss.

The Bulldogs have taught me some ridiculously strong coping skills, y’all.

I can’t remember the exact date, but I think it was sometime back in the mid-90s when I realized that the perfect way to get through a tense basketball game was to turn down the volume of the game, plug in my vacuum cleaner and GO TO TOWN cleaning whatever rugs or carpets were in the reach of the vacuum’s power cord. Over the years it’s become my all-time favorite stress reducer when I’m just BESIDE MYSELF with game time nerves. And as an added bonus, the living room / kitchen / playroom / wherever I happen to be watching is oh-so-clean by the time the game is over. Win or lose.

A few weeks ago I got an email asking if I’d be interested in receiving a (free) new Oreck Magnesium vacuum cleaner to use and review, and it took me all of about 45 seconds to respond to the email with a hearty “YES, PLEASE.” My old vacuum was on the brink of collapse, and since my mama and my sister have always raved about their Orecks, I thought the new Magnesium model would make a lovely addition to our family.

And oh, was I ever right.

My husband assembled the Oreck Magnesium in all of two minutes, and I decided that the perfect time for its inaugural run in our house was during a Mississippi State basketball game the next afternoon. I was watching in the playroom since I could only get the game via ESPN3, which meant that the vacuum cleaner was going to be put to the test on hardwood floors as well as a lime green shag rug.

I don’t know why I felt it necessary to mention the color of the rug.

Apparently I like to overshare when it comes to the various flooring surfaces in our home.

By the middle of the first half I was vacuuming like there was no tomorrow, and there were several things about the Oreck that won me over right away and continue make me want to refer to it as “The Baby.”

1) I don’t have to stop and adjust the vacuum height when I move from a rug to the hardwood floors. The vacuum works equally well on both.

2) The Oreck is incredibly light, which means that I don’t have to wrestle with it when I’m trying to turn corners, vacuum couch cushions, etc. If I wanted to, I could lift it over my head with one hand. Which I don’t. BUT I TOTALLY COULD.

3) Much to my surprise, the Oreck is really powerful. I can pretty much control it with the tip of my finger, which is a whole new experience for me when vacuuming that shag rug.

4) Because it’s so small, the Oreck easily fits in between the bottom of my kitchen cabinets and the floor. I don’t have to sweep and then vacuum – I just vacuum. Love that.

And in addition to all that stuff, the Bulldogs beat Alabama on the Saturday when I first tried the vacuum. So I think it’s probably a given at this point that I AM A FAN OF THE ORECK.

Storage is a big plus with this vacuum cleaner, too. In the past I’ve stored our vacuum in the hall closet, but the Oreck Magnesium is so small that it fits in a little corner of our laundry room – without sticking out in the middle of the floor and without needing to be moved whenever I open our pantry cabinets.

See? Doesn’t that just make you sixteen kinds of happy?

In all seriousness, it’s so great to have the vacuum on the end of the house where we need and use it the most. It’s handy if I need to clean up crumbs at the breakfast room table or if I accidentally spill sugar all over the kitchen floor.

That last thing is an embarrassingly common occurrence, by the way.

The bottom line is that I’m absolutely thrilled to have the Oreck Magnesium, and I think you’ll love it, too. If you’ve ever lugged a vacuum up or down stairs, the Magnesium is going to be a dream come true for you. It’s lightweight, compact and powerful – which, in my opinion, is pretty much the best of all worlds as far as a vacuum is concerned.

If you’d like to enter for a chance to win an Oreck Magnesium of your very own, it’s oh-so-simple. Just visit Oreck.com, do a little reading, then come back here and leave a comment telling us one thing that you learned about the Magnesium.

If you’d like an additional entry, then just mention the giveaway on Twitter (making sure to tag @oreck) or Facebook, then come back here and leave a second comment with a link to your tweet or post.

I’ll leave this giveaway open until next Thursday, February 8th at noon central, at which point I’ll draw for a winner using random.org. The winner will have 48 hours to respond to my notification email. If the winner doesn’t respond to my email within 48 hours, I’ll draw for another winner.

Happy Oreck-ing, y’all!

The giveaway winner must be a resident of the U.S. 48 contiguous states.

Oreck Corporation provided the prize for the sweepstakes but is not the sponsor of the sweepstakes.

This giveaway is now closed.

I love that it uses a HEPA bag. We have terrible allergies, so that would definitely help. I need a new vacuum so bad!

Amy in Italy February 2, 2012 at 1:53 am

7 year warranty!?!?!?! And tune-ups!!!

(Now, know that if I were to win, I would give it to Sister … to whom vacuuming is her “Happy Place”. Most of her biggest life issues have been solved while removing dog hair and what-not from her living room floor. It would be like a “trophy”!)

Thanks BooMama!

Love it goes under kitchen cabinets and it has a HEPA filter.

Donna February 2, 2012 at 4:11 am

I’m so excited about this giveaway! My grandmother had an Oreck, and she loved it. My mom inherited it and raves about how well it cleans her floors. My mom is in good health, so I’m YEARS away from it being passed to my generation – which is completely fine and the way if have it! (that sounds awful. I was just trying to reiterate why I hope I win.). Anyway, I love the fact that it lays virtually flat for easy cleaning under furniture. I have a 3-year old Jack Russell whose life mission is to bark at all animals on TV and shed 3.5 cups of fur every day. This “lay flat feature” will come in very handy when vacuuming his favorite hiding place – under my antique love seat. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

Stephanie February 2, 2012 at 5:23 am

I like that it lays flat to get under furniture. I really need that function.

Elizabeth Holloway February 2, 2012 at 5:34 am

Love the LED headlights… For safe vacuuming in the dark!

Elizabeth February 2, 2012 at 5:42 am

Direct suction makes Orecks — including the Magnesium — some of the lightest vacuums around!

Dina February 2, 2012 at 5:52 am

Love the Hepa filter as my family has allergies!

Teresa Stout February 2, 2012 at 5:54 am

I like the fact that it goes flat to get under the furniture and the HEPA bag.
Would love to own this product.

Susan in indiana February 2, 2012 at 5:56 am

I too, love a HEPA filter! We have dogs so that is a plus. I also love that it can be used on carpet as well as hardwoods. Thanks Boo Mama!!

Jenn February 2, 2012 at 5:57 am

I love so many things about it! I love that it is only 7.7 pounds, but that it has full Oreck power. The design looks really funky too.

Julie February 2, 2012 at 5:57 am

I love that it only weighs 7.7 lbs!!!

Debbie Rutledge February 2, 2012 at 6:11 am

Orek Magnesiums cost $499.99 (but they include free shipping!)

Kathy Bubb February 2, 2012 at 6:12 am

It’s the lightest upright Oreck ever!!!

Karen February 2, 2012 at 6:13 am

I’m loving the 30ft. cord. That means I can get more done before needing to unplug and move to a new outlet.

Karen February 2, 2012 at 6:16 am
Julie February 2, 2012 at 6:24 am

I have a very heavy vacuum that is a pain to take up and down stairs. Love that it is so light and that you can get 3 yearly tune-ups.

Bethany February 2, 2012 at 6:32 am

My goodness. I learned that aside from winning your giveaway, this single college-girl, full-time-worker girl will never be able to afford such a gem. I was hoping to be surprised since I’ve been wanting to get a vacuum (currently borrowing the one from the apartment building laundry room).

Barb E February 2, 2012 at 6:34 am

Love that you can/could lift it over your head with one hand. That’s a deal maker!

Teri February 2, 2012 at 6:35 am

The hepa filter had me at hello. I would so give my current yellow beast to my daughter and use this daily!

ellen February 2, 2012 at 6:40 am

the 7 year warranty is really nice as i seem to have a knack for wearing things out awful quick.

Southern Gal February 2, 2012 at 6:41 am

I’d have to say the Hepa filter is a big plus for our family with allergies. Also, the long cord would save me so much time!

Melissa H. February 2, 2012 at 6:42 am

The fact that it is so light-weight and would spare my back is very appealing to me.

Katherine February 2, 2012 at 6:46 am

A 30 ft cord AND twin LED headlights? Sign. Me. UP. Our current vacuum was one of our first purchases as a newly married couple, OVER 20 YEARS AGO. It’s time.

Kristen February 2, 2012 at 6:47 am

I really like how light it is. Also the Hepa filter and long cord are great.

Lori Gail February 2, 2012 at 6:48 am

I love that the Magnesium works well on bare surface floors, and that it can schooch under the kitchen cabinets! I’ve been struggling to find a good vacuum option since we tiled almost the entire house!

Courtney February 2, 2012 at 6:51 am

Love the 30 ft. power cord and how lightweight it is.

Kristy February 2, 2012 at 6:59 am

2 speed settings? Never had a vacuum with speed settings before :)

Fingers crossed!

Lori H February 2, 2012 at 7:00 am

The HEPA filter is a huge deal for me – my kids have mild asthma and we all have allergies. And a dog :)

Rebecca February 2, 2012 at 7:10 am

LOVE ORECK! My husband got me one several years ago with rewards points and when it died, I got another one for CASH! : ) I love that this one goes almost flat to get under furniture and the cord has a snap feature, that is my only complaint about mine now, the cord will not stay put! Thanks Boo Mama, this is a great contest!

coralie February 2, 2012 at 7:13 am

I love that the frame isn’t plastic. I often break the frame of a vacuum before the motor goes.

Emily W. February 2, 2012 at 7:14 am

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that it lays down almost flat to get under furniture, etc. Moving things is my per peeve of vacuuming …

coralie February 2, 2012 at 7:16 am
Daphne Petrey February 2, 2012 at 7:16 am

Only weighs 7.7 lbs…I think that means that a certain 6 year old might be able to Vroom Vroom around the house with it occasionally! I like that potential!

Jess Mc February 2, 2012 at 7:17 am

I like that it weighs under 8lbs. and it has 3 annual tune-ups…don’t know exactly what that entails but it sounds great!

The Karate Mom February 2, 2012 at 7:18 am

Is it weird that I think the most exciting feature might be the 30-foot cord? My house is little and we have a sheddy dog, I have to vacuum three times a week and I think that, with a 30-foot cord, I could plug it into one place and get the whole house without having to re-plug.
Wow, my life sounds exciting.

Belinda February 2, 2012 at 7:20 am

I love that it is so light. I love that you don’t have to bend over and change the height settings. I love the speed settings! I NEED the ORECK!

Jennifer February 2, 2012 at 7:23 am

Oh, hands down, the 30 foot cord. Our current vacuum gives me fits, and having to unplug it and move it around the house (it’s quite heavy) just serves to remind me that I really should have ended our relationship years ago. My mom has an Oreck, and I actually sometimes vacuum for her when I go visit. It’s glorious! So, if I happen to win this, there probably will be tears of joy.

Michele T February 2, 2012 at 7:23 am

The Magnesium has not one, but two, TWO, headlights. Yee-haw.

Kayla February 2, 2012 at 7:29 am

I love the long cord and the light weight!

Nikki February 2, 2012 at 7:30 am

I learned that the only way I’ll be owning an Oreck Magnesium is if I win yours … $500 for a vacuum cleaner is STEEP. But, I do love the 7 year warranty, the headlights :) and the 30 foot long cord.

Melanie February 2, 2012 at 7:30 am

I could really use a new vacuum! With two dogs and a cat, mine gets a lot of use. The 30′ cord is awesome!

Nicole February 2, 2012 at 7:31 am

It only weighs 7.7 lbs! That would have to be easier on steps than what I have currently. Heck, my stairs might actually get vacuumed on a regular basis – that would be something new.

Aunt Granny February 2, 2012 at 7:31 am

I have back problems and appreciate the lightweight feature the most–but the generous warranty is certainly something to consider, too. Seven years. Wow!

Jenny F. February 2, 2012 at 7:36 am

It is so light weight! I get tired of lugging my vacumn around. Would love something lighter that does a great job!

Leslie February 2, 2012 at 7:36 am

I have a lightweight (cheap) vacuum at the moment and I think it must be designed for dorm rooms because the cord is incredibly short! I do not live in a mansion by any means, but there are several rooms in my house where I have to unplug and replug to get to every part of the room! Crazy! So, the combo of lightweight, but well-made, with a 30-foot long cord? Very appealing to me in my non-mansion-but-bigger-than-a-dorm-room house! Thanks, Boo!

Nancy February 2, 2012 at 7:41 am

Thanks for doing the giveaway! I have carpeted stairs, and I sweat like a pig lugging my current cleaner up and down them (now who’s oversharing?).

Lindsey Dean February 2, 2012 at 7:44 am

I’ve bought several vacuums since I’ve been married and all of them lose suction. Over and over again I have heard that Oreck is the best!! I should have chalked it up and spent the money up front. Then I wouldn’t be replacing mine every year or two! I love that it lies flat, has a long cord, is light weight and uses a hepa filter! Excited about this giveaway!
