Hey Hi There How Are You

This morning Alex opened the front door and stepped outside for a minute. I didn’t pay him too much mind since I was running around and trying to get ready for our day, but after about thirty seconds he walked back inside, shut the door, and said, “WHEWWWWWWWWW! IT IS HUMID OUTSIDE!”

I couldn’t help but laugh, because listen. If I’ve passed along nothing else to that little man, I’ve passed along a keen awareness of humidity levels. Train up a child, etc.

And he was right, you know. It was definitely a WHEWWWWWW morning as far as humidity goes. I’m grateful for all of the rain, and heaven knows that this is the most green August / September / October that I can ever remember, but in all honesty I’m looking forward to a day (SOON, LORD – SOON!) when my bangs have a shelf life of longer than 15 seconds. I’ve spent the last two months with my hair tucked behind my ears in a futile attempt to contain the frizz, and quite frankly I look forward to cooler weather and the hope of hair victory.

Honestly, I didn’t realize how much I’ve been longing for hair victory until I walked through this season of hair defeat. I just trust that this hair humbling is for my good and for God’s glory.

Plus, I have to keep in mind that this crazy humidity – and the resulting rain – is part of the reason why we had such a delightful weekend. We didn’t have one thing on the calendar, so we just hung out and watched football and enjoyed being in our pajamas. I did run some errands on Saturday, but that was mainly because I’m on an obsessive quest for a new purse and needed to check out the options at Steinmart and TJ Maxx before they ran out of all the purses.

That’s totally how my brain works, by the way: THE STORES WILL RUN OUT OF PURSES IF I DON’T GO LOOK RIGHT NOW.

It’s all very normal and healthy.

So I spent some time looking at purses, but I didn’t find one. However, I did notice that Steinmart already had their Christmas decorations on display, which makes total sense when you consider that Halloween is still almost a month away. It’s the perfect time to stock up on lots of sparkly wreaths. Time’s-a-wastin’ – only 84 days until Christmas!

Anyway.

Yesterday after church we enjoyed the blessing of the Chuy’s, and after we got home (and back in our pajamas), I napped, watched Food Network, and basically avoided any activity that society would regard as productive. I would have felt a little guilty if it hadn’t been the best day of my whole entire life.

Okay. Maybe that was a slight exaggeration. But it really was about seventeen different varieties of delightful. The fact that last night was the season premiere of Revenge was just an extra measure of happiness. I’d wondered how in the world they were going to get another season out of Emily avenging her father’s death, but it looks like those writers thought of everything. Now she’s investigating what happened to her mother, and I’m feeling confident that the show could go on forever at this rate. Plus, I am fully convinced that she and Nolan are siblings, so that has to be a plot line at some point, right?

Needless to say, I’m experiencing all manner of Revenge-related optimism.

So that’s about all going on around here: purse hunting, TV watching, pajama wearing, and now that it’s Monday, adjusting to reality again. And working. And figuring out how I can avoid going to the grocery store.

As you can tell, my October is off to a rip-roaring start.

  1. Basically, I slept the entire weekend away (one of those), but made sure I was up last night for the Tri-fecta of Sunday night goodness: Once Upon a Time, The Amazing Race and Revenge. The fact they were ALL Season Premieres made it beyond perfect.

And yes, Nolan and Emily are def be sibs. No boutadoubtit!

  2. Margaret says:

watched Once Upon a Time. They nicely had a program before the premiere that filled us in on who was who and what was what. Enjoyed the show.

  3. Emily and Nolan….siblings??? That would be genius! It looks like Once upon a time is going to awesome again.

  4. How about an all Revenge podcast??? Have you tried “Homeland”? Brilliant.

  5. Amen to the humidity and hair woes. I can barely make it through a doorway with this frizzy, bushy, curly head of mine.

Hope you snatch up a purse soon.

I’m hooked on Once Upon a Time which is an accomplishment since I don’t get to watch much TV at all what with all the myth busting, American picking, alligator killing going on.

  6. I am an expert at avoiding going to the grocery store. I can give you all manner of tips, but the most important one is pretend that your family only likes to eat spaghetti and meat sauce or cereal. Make sure you have ice cream on hand, and everyone will be very content. ;)
Your weekend sounds lovely! I accidentally wrote “lively,” which it decidedly was not. One little letter can make a world of difference, no? haha :)

  7. I, too, am longing for hair victory! At my age, I’m counting on it in Heaven!

  8. I was NOT disappointed with Revenge… Can’t wait til next week!!

  9. I’m always on the hunt for the perfect purse and just bought a mosey. Check it out. Tons of pockets and very functional but nice looking too. Love your sense of humor!

  10. Ha! On the purse hunt here as well. . . .
I haven’t watched Revenge, only because do I really NEED to get pulled into another series.
I did however watch those lovely, demure, sweet housewives from New Jersey have their reunion.
MY WORD that is some crazy right there. . yet I can’t look away no matter how hard I try.

  11. Oh, my. Change it to the Austin area and you have cloned my life and deflated hairstyles. I have resorted to all manner of hair teasing and hair products I never would have entertained in my home before. Still? Nada. No hair victories here until cool weather arrives. I’m thinking February…

  12. I’m with you on the humidity in Birmingham. Just got here last week. Walked out this morning and about passed out from the humidity. I left cool North Carolina and came to hot. I’m a fall girl. When does it get cool here?

  13. I’ve been on the hunt for a new purse for about six months and can’t find anything I like. They’re either way too big (hello, I don’t actually need to carry the kitchen sink) or way too small (but it would be nice to fit a tic-tac or two in there at the same time). Who knew one could be so conflicted when trying to decide on a purse?

  14. Have you ever heard of Miche bags? I was just introduced to them a couple of months ago, and they are brilliant. This is how they explain the bags on their website:

“Being a Miche fan means never having to switch purses again—it’s a beautiful thing! You put all of your essentials in just one bag and never have to bother with moving it all to a different purse each time you change your outfit. Imagine—you will always know where your favorite lipstick is!”

“You start with a Base Bag—Classic, Demi, Prima or Petite—then add any one of our stylish Shells and you’re ready for your busy day. Which “you” are you feeling like today? Fun? Flirty? Sophisticated? All business? No problem. You can give your Miche Bag the exact look you want in 3 seconds or less. Now that’s instant gratification!”

I’ve had mine for a couple of months, and love it. I doubt that I will ever buy another purse, again. Instead, I will just buy the shells. They are very well made, btw. Their website is: michebag.com. You should totally check it out. It might just change your life. ;)

    Blessings!

  15. Emily and Nolan siblings, huh? Now, there’s one possibility I never considered. DVR’d the premiere…can’t wait to watch!

  16. Did you watch Prison Break? If they could squeeze 2-3 more seasons out of it *after* they were out of prison, I have no doubt Revenge has plenty of steam left.

  17. I heart Revenge!!!!!!!!!!

  18. And Once Upon a Time is AMAZING!!!! Watch it!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  19. I am also on the hunt for a perfect purse..it must be comfortable on my shoulder with a long enough strap to stay on, plus be stylish and fit LOTS of stuff. I saw one at Banana Republic Outlet yesterday that I loved, but there was only one and I didn’t buy it…now I’m obsessing!! Oh, and I had my first Chuy’s experience yesterday ( we just got one in Knoxville-hooray!) and yes, it was AMAZING!! The seasoned beef and queso bar is just heavenly! and the food’s pretty darn good too!

  20. I am feeling reallllllllly old – how do I wear the colored jeans? Like what kind of top? My non-imaginative mind is thinking just denim? Can ya help a sister out?

    Thanks!!!
