Here are a few things that I’m loving this week.
Besides the State/LSU game, of course.
I’ve now watched it five times.

Angie is one of my favorite writers. She’s smart, she’s funny, and she has such deep, practical understanding of Scripture. She’s written a new children’s Bible storybook especially for little girls, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it. It releases October 1st.

I’m linking to the website so you can see how this Bible study community is set up, but if you have a smartphone, you will most definitely want to download the app. In addition to being chock-full-o-Truth, it’s absolutely beautiful, and it feels like a giant exhale every single time I open it on my phone. You can look up verses, work through a study, jump into community – whatever suits your needs at the time. You can also find all sorts of beautiful artwork and photography inside the app, each with an encouraging verse or quote. There’s lots of great information right here if you’d like to learn a little more or give it a try. I think you’ll love it.

Here’s my two cents that nobody asked for: as mamas we need to be really clear – REALLY CLEAR – that if we’re gonna orchestrate and manage and hover over our children’s friendships, our kids will be the ones to suffer for it. That’s not to say that we shouldn’t be aware and involved. But there is no joy in cultivating a culture of exclusivity – just years of heartache and unhealthy relationships for the parents and the kids. I will spare you my soapbox, but oh have mercy the Gospel compels us to something higher and better in terms of how we treat people and how we expect our children to treat people. And that’s all I have to say about that. :-)

Ben Rector has a new live album, and it is FANTASTIC. Reminds me of my college days when I’d drive back and forth to Starkville listening to Billy Joel’s Greatest Hits. It’s a real treat.
5.
Maybe one day it’ll get old.
But I really can’t imagine when that will be.
(And don’t worry – I’ll be completely focused on A&M next week.)

Wasn’t that ballgame Great! As my daddy used to say, “we tried to lose there at the end.” I was screaming in FL. DIDNT DARE CALL MY LSU FRIENDS UNTIL IT WAS OVER. Wasn’t sure what might happen I those last minutes. But as soon as the clock ran out, I sent my LSU friend my condolences & recommended a sedative.
That.video.will.never.get.old. I just smile from ear to ear each time I watch it. And the fact that it is set to Jim and Matt (I say just their first names like they are long lost cousins of mine) was just the icing!
My favorite part? Where sweet Dak just pushes down that kid with one stiff arm as to say, “Have a seat friend, I’m going to just keep running by you.”
Man, that was nice. Here’s hoping to the rest of the season being that fun. Our luck is that LSU will stink this year and we just got lucky. We MUST BELIEVE!!!

Oh my word, I am trying to stay off my soapbox, but I just HAD to comment on #3. I remember so clearly that a friend on my street growing up had to stop playing with me when my parents got divorced. I was so heartbroken and confused. And years later, that girl got pregnant in high school and became a single mom herself. And I was so burdened that maybe if her parents had let her spend some time with me, she would have seen how sufficient and loving and capable my single momma was. And how good life was for us and how we all end up in situations we didn’t plan for, and God’s grace reaches us there and we can thrive. We never talked after those childhood years, but I think of her some.
I have a baby girl who is years away from all this, but inclusion and resisting the urge to surround ourselves with people just like us is heavy on my heart already. Thanks for a little dialogue on that, Sophie. I love when you step up on your soapbox and give us a little something to think on.

Thank you for your words about parenting and friendship. I have had this lesson visited to me over and over this week. Add to that the cabal of some of the cutest mamas ever shouting some of the meanest things ever to a bunch of 9 year olds at a baseball game (“Drop it!” to the kid trying to catch the fly ball from the opposing team, “You can run faster than that tubby guy!” for another) and I am about ready to pack my kids to a mountaintop hermitage. Nowhere is perfect and even the best of us have bad days but my word. No wondering where some kids get it from for sure. Redoubling my efforts to walk the walk and sincerely appreciate your nudges in the right direction, by being you and sharing what you find works. Wishing you a blessed week.
Dear Sophie thank you for the app I was visiting my daughter at college and shared it with them. It is beautiful as you stated. I also loved the video even though burnt orange is in my blood.
