The Big Boo Cast, Episode 50

bigboographic

Well, our little podcast and Sally O’Malley have something in common.

This is our 50th episode, only I didn’t even realize it until Alex mentioned it to me right before we started recording, and then I forgot to say anything to Melanie until about 2/3 of the way through the podcast.

So clearly we’ve planned an enormous celebration.

We did make a very impromptu (and somewhat unorganized) decision to do some special giveaways, though, and you’ll find out the what and the how if you listen to the podcast. You can enter on my blog and Melanie’s blog; there will be four winners total.

And somehow, considering that this is our 50th podcast, it seems fitting that the content is absolutely all over the place. YOU SHOULD EXPECT NO LESS. We talk about Mabel and Piper’s trip to the Pawderosa Ranch, my many hair-related insecurities, the wonder that is Apple Music, my Power Ballad Mix Tape playlist, our enthusiasm for Top 40 radio, and so much more.

Thanks so much for listening, y’all. And for being patient when we’d take a year-long break between podcasts. And for not being critical when the sound was terrible. And for consistently encouraging us like crazy where this silly little podcast is concerned. In its own unique way, it has been and continues to be a blast.

You can click here to listen. Or here. You can even listen right here on the blog.

Or, as always, you can subscribe on iTunes if you’re feeling particularly fancy.

Just FYI – here’s where you can get more info on the products / places we mention (these aren’t affiliate links – just regular ole links):

Jen Lancaster’s I Regret Nothing
Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies
Benefit They’re Real! Mascara
The Most Awesome Power Ballad Mix Tape Playlist (by Sophie via Apple Music)

Enjoy, y’all.

  7. You gals just tickle me every time I listen. Would love to read the books! I hope there are 50 more podcasts to come. :)

  8. Okay. So here’s the dilemma. I liked what I typed as a comment on Melanie’s blog, but I feel like a poser just copying & pasting it here.
So I figured I would just expose myself as the poser that I am and do it anyway. :)

I *adore* listening to yโ€™all!!! I feel like Iโ€™m listening in on a phone conversation between two of my girlfriends. (And might I please ask that Fry Daddy get on the ball and join yโ€™all for another episode soon? His addition to the banter is MAGIC.)
Please oh please let the random numerator thingamajig pick ME for copies of your books!!!!!!

  9. Allison says:

I love the podcasts! Made my day to listen while I worked.

  10. Samantha says:

    Happy 50th! You ladies rock!

  11. Okay, so in the last few weeks, I have binge-listened to all 50 podcasts. In recent days, I have been rationing them so as to delay the inevitable finish line. Thankfully, unlike when I finished binge-watching The Gilmore Girls, I have hope of more to come. Today’s was the first one I listened to in ‘real time’, and I had to keep reminding myself that it is now present day. I absolutely adore you both, (I’m copying and pasting the same comment on both blogs) and in my mind, we are now best of friends. I’m in the same age range, and I share your regard for Amy Grant and my older sister and I could easily still belt ‘Angels Watching Over Me’, especially if we were in a car with our other eight siblings like back in the day. Oh, and I have vivid, dear memories of that time in college when my friends and I got front-row seats for Vince Gill – I have the photos to prove ‘HE IS LOOKING RIGHT AT ME!!’. It was awesome. Anyway, I would love to receive your books, and I look forward to the next podcast. But no pressure! Seriously, if you never do another, I get it. If you do, though, just know, that I will be locking myself in my office and pressing pause every time a child approaches, so as to not miss a word. :) Happy 4th!

  12. Thank you for the podcasts! You two are hilarious together.

  13. CheyAnne says:

Oh my heavens! My kids were wondering why I was sitting at my computer, laughing to myself! Happy 50th!!!

  23. OK. So I started listening to the podcast at home and finished on my way to a VBS meeting at my church. The giveaway discussion was awesome, and I will admit that my dogs, at least my oldest one, is far more neurotic than my child at least appears to be at age three. Oh, and they ARE JUST PRECIOUS. You can’t help be want to comfort them when their anxious.

I would love to win the set of books! And – I always appreciate your transparency. I, too, often feel like I have no skills in the hair/make-up department (and I even belong to the long hair club) and it’s nice to know others feel the same way.

Every time you post one, I listen to it as I organize, cook, clean, etc… so y’all better stay on the ball because otherwise my household may be reduced to utter shambles without the motivation of getting to listen to you and Melanie talk about her princess inclinations ;)

  52. Holly K says:

I have the misfortune of working on the Friday before the 4th but with the office empty, I cranked up this podcast and listened (and laughed) while I worked. Sidenote: Ya’ll do math like I do math! :) Thanks for keeping me company! Happy 4th of July!

Sophie – I wanted to let you know that I use frankincense on my face. The smell is something to get use to…however, it dissipates after a few minutes and I can’t smell it. I purchase my oils from Plant Therapy. They are not terribly expensive. It really helps the age spots on my cheeks :).

I know, I know I have an illness. : ) I laugh out loud, while getting crazy looks form co-workers, wishing that I could just hang out with you in real life! Guess the podcast will have to do. 93. Rachel says:

I love listening to you two. Happy 50th podcast!

  94. First, I really, really need you to find that Kim Z wig, side pony tail and all, and just wear it for a picture! It would be a gift to us all! Second, I really hope I didn’t miss the giveaway…holiday and summer and work have fogged my brain and I forgot to comment until now. I sadly have to admit that as a new follower, I only have the Kindle previews of your books and the full copy of Nobody’s Cuter, so winning these would also be a real treat (although, I’m not sure if it would make me as happy as the wig photo :) Love what you ladies are doing! I save the podcast specifically for my drive home, so I can laugh and be entertained, rather than cursing and making unsafe gestures and the drivers sharing the road. Keep up the fun! And please keep up the weekly podcast! I will tell you that NOTHING makes me giddier than when my iTunes says it’s downloading a new Big Boo Cast podcast!

  95. The giveaway discussion was so funny I know the people driving next to me to work were seriously wondering what funny thing they were missing out on! :)

Love the more frequent podcasts…humor is so great for my drive when I normally listen to “self-help” type podcasts…well, ya’ll’s are just my favorite.

  96. Christa Harmon says:

I love, love, love listening to y’all!!

  97. I recently discovered your podcasts through a friend. I love them. I’ve pretty much binged listen to them for the past two months. Thanks for all the laughs and making lawn-mowing (my escape) an enjoyable experience!!!

  98. My sister introduced me to your books. I must say you are one of the funniest people that I have never met! It would make my life to sit down and have a conversation with you. I am in the process of reading “Home is Where My People Are,” and I have already asked my sister to borrow “A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet.” I can totally relate with your journey to find your faith after being raised in a small Southern town. I would LOVE to have a signed copy of your and Melanie’s books!

  99. Jennifer says:

I love your books! I have read and reread them both! I love listening to the podcasts as it reminds me of myself and my college roommate! I would love to win a signed set of y’alls books!
