The Big Boo Cast, Episode 36

Well, the big news in this particular podcast is that Melanie thinks our dogs could possibly be related. It’s a long shot – but it’s a shot. We actually spend way too much time talking about our beloved little pups, and Hazel barks at random intervals to make her presence known.

Other than that, there’s nothing new under the sun, really. We talk about TV and books and sunscreen and our hair. We also share our feelings about sunglasses and marvel about the fact that we’ve been recording podcasts for SEVEN YEARS.

I’ll tell you what: seven years is a long time to talk about nothing.

And in the interest of clarity:

- The answer to Caroline’s question about British and American accents: Mental Floss article

- The underye brightener I want to try: Mally Perfect Prep Undereye Brightener

- The sunscreen for faces: Coppertone Oil Free Sunscreen for Faces (this one doesn’t have zinc)

- The summer skirt Melanie mentions: Gap stripe foldover skirt

Well, David walked in the room while I was editing this one, and after he listened for a few seconds, he said, “Saving the world – one podcast at a time.”

I trust that you can detect his sarcasm.

It’s the same ole same ole this go ’round; we talk about sleep habits and shoes and TV and skirts and Gap and travel and all sorts of other riveting topics – including the terribly controversial issue of clear bra straps.

Shockingly, we do not talk about our hair, nor do we talk about mascara. It’s like we don’t even know ourselves anymore.

The Big Boo Cast, Episode 31

Well, I would welcome you to our annual Christmas podcast – except I don’t think Melanie and I have actually recorded a Christmas podcast in about five years. We are far too fond of flying by the seat of our collective pants to plan anything in advance, much less to commit to it on a yearly basis. We like to tell ourselves this is part of our charm, but it’s actually probably a little annoying.

This time around we talk about a bunch of different stuff: Melanie’s theory about Pinterest, Christmas with little ones (newsflash: our kids aren’t really “little ones” anymore), TV shows that make us paranoid, holiday treats, my ongoing eyelash issues (and Melanie’s solution), and our observations about overly familiar customer service. So basically we just ramble, but since we recorded this one on December 21, VOILA: CHRISTMAS PODCAST.

Also, for some reason my Mississippi accent is real strong this time around. I watched Steel Magnolias the night before, and apparently it triggered some dormant speech patterns. I say this because there’s a point when I pronounce “our” like “ire,” so I hope you folks from other parts of the country don’t require a translator.

Merry Christmas, y’all. So grateful for you!

The Big Boo Cast, Episode 30

As is our usual tendency, Melanie and I recorded this podcast without anything even remotely resembling a plan. We talked about all sorts of stuff, though: Thanksgiving, Christmas, college football, TV, beauty products, and Melanie’s preoccupation with a youthful eyebrow.

I had no idea that a youthful eyebrow was even a thing. Suffice it to say that I got me an eyebrow education.

Also, I had my microphone too close to me, so occasionally there is some popping. I’m just as sorry as I can be. But if there weren’t at least one technical snafu per podcast, it wouldn’t be us. Or I guess it would be a professional version of us, and I think we all know that we don’t really operate that way.

Edited to add a few links that Mel and I mentioned:

- Dave Barnes’ new Christmas CD

- SoDelta candles (my friend Lea Margaret’s candle company – they are divine)

- Thimblepress (loved her prints at Mistletoe Market)

- Sugarboo Designs

- Priscilla Shirer’s new book, God Is Able

- Little Black Sheep by Ashley Cleveland (Mel mentions this book)

- Tres Mignonne (my new favorite style blog – and you’ll fall in love with Abby and Casey)

- Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless (have mercy – the brush on this mascara is a wonder)

Hope y’all enjoy it!

The Big Boo Cast, Episode 29

Well, today’s topics are very varied. And occasionally there are some sound issues and rumbles (I kept moving my microphone, and apparently that creates noise), but let’s just use our imaginations and pretend that this whole podcast operation is highly professional.

This time around we talk about rugs (seriously. rugs.), old youth group skits, air travel, why we’re at the mercy of dentists, teacher conferences, movies (and how Gravity seems to be a really big deal), pasta (and also cheese), our deep, heartfelt enthusiasm for Les Miles, and who knows what else. We’re pretty much all over the place.

Also, here’s the Les Miles video that we talk about (and love so much).

The Big Boo Cast, Episode 28

Well, I’ll just be honest. Melanie and I could have used a power nap before we recorded this one. Oh, we still muster some significant enthusiasm for all manner of minutiae, but we were a little bit on the tired side. Melanie had a big weekend cheering for her Aggies, and I got way too invested in Sunday night’s Miss America pageant and stayed up far too late on the Twitter. Even still, we cover some of our favorite podcast topics: college football, TV (specifically, why I did not enjoy Breaking Bad), Miss America, eyelashes, skin issues (both real and imagined), more football, etc.

(It just dawned on me that I forgot to tell Melanie that I bought chicken at the grocery store today.)

(And when I picked up the chicken, I thought, “Well, I can always serve it with pinto beans and then squeeze a little lime on it.)

(That was one of my most favorite podcast lines ever.)

(LO, I HAVE VENTURED ON TO A TANGENT.)

Anyway.
